For the record, axes aren't piercing, they are cleaving, which is more like slash. Bows are piercing.

Strikes at you with a weapon would be the definition I would use. Using a wand/staff/truncheon/etc would also count.

a purple/gold item with no mods, probably has a lower attrbute requirement than normal.
