Couldn't you just use berserker stance in place of frenzy? Because it doesn't take away that damage output... or am I missing something here?

I can remember countless times when I die on a long cutscene cause of keeping my vampiric axe equipped... because the cutscene would be seconds...

I got a armor 16, req8 magmas (str), is that what you consider rare?
