I agree with OP totally on this issue. I am so sick and tired of people constantly complaining about others trying to sell perfect items for 100k+ectos and saying that all FOW armor owners ebayed. Get a grip people, for those skilled players or those players with half a brain of their own, making GW cash is extremely simple. Don't believe me, let me give you an example...The Totem Axe. I was at work when they were released but I heard about on these forums, I saw the stats and immediately realised that everyone was going to want one. So while doing 1 run I developed my OWN build to quickly solo the areas and then made literally 100's of plat from selling Totems at around 20k each. I still always hang onto a few Totems for those spamming WTB and then ask 10k, which I usually get (8-10k) even though someone will always tell me, no way, they sell for 5k not 10k, it is my axe and I can ASK whatever I want for it, and no one forces anyone to buy anything. So, IMO, MOST times FOW armor and definatley rank DO speak highly of the players skill, and the "have nots" are generally the unskilled, immature babies that need someone to hold their hand in everything they do, except the small percentage that just don't care about making gold.

Just to add one more thing, I have very limited time for PVE anymore, but yet I still find it extremely easy to make cash whenever I want to...learn to think for yourself and watch just how far it can take you.

Keep up the good work Capitalist

Granted, all of those items have a 9 requirement, but in the end, how many times do you find yourself only having enough points in your build for an 8 or 7 requirement? To dispel a common myth, there is ABSOLUTELY no benefit to exceeding your requirement...whether you just barely meet the requirement or exceed it by 7 levels - it does EXACTLY THE SAME THING.

If you have a chip on your shoulder because you can't get the exact statistics you want on the exact skin you want, then you simply need to (1) find ways to accumulate the cash to get your heart's desire or (2) get over it. 99% of you should pursue #2, in order not to become bitter, as many of those have who post about the economy being broken. It's really hard for an individual to separate NEED from DESIRE, but it's very easy for third parties to spot that in your threads.

it does do something....havenet you read the swordsmanship dispription ..something like swordsmanship skills are more effective with higher swordsmanship...swordsmanship skill do more damage, with higher swordsmanship.

It really isn't that hard. I make money by selling green items I farm and also sell materials. Like many have said, if you use your brain and some of the information available (farming guides, builds, etc) here on Guru, you'll be on your way. Seems to me people are just lazy. I'm a casual gamer and usually don't have more than 2 days a week to play. I flucuate between 150 to 300k because I supply what people demand. Find out what that is and do that for a while. Being the leader in my guild, I use the money I make to help every member to become self-sufficient money-wise. I help them with money and materials for armor and help them set up farming characters and point them in the right direction. All my members are self-sufficient and have over
100k. There are two that I'm helping to get to that point; they will be soon.

Yes, but the requirement of your weapon is irrelevant to this so long as you meet it, which was the point of his post.

lol. That pretty much sums up me. All the gold I earned, I earned by working my way through Tyria, no farming. No running. I'm the epitome of a casual player. I understand why people want to sell items for 100 plus K. Because someone is obviously willing to pay it.If you really want the skin that much, and you have the cash to burn, awesome for you. I have a steady 100k in my storage, anything else I earn is spending money.

If I want that Totem axe or Kephkets refuge or whatever, I go out and try and farm it. If I don't want it bad enough to ignore my pride and cough up the dough/farm the area constantly, I guess I don't want it badly enough. This game is a good balance of casual and hardcore players. The casual players can satisfy their needs with cheaper armor that does the same(and sometimes looks better) and weapons, and the hardcore guys get the rare stuff through sheer grind: making money, getting it themselves, or trading another weapon for it.

I want the cool skins too. I like adding a nifty look to my monk, trying to make him look heroic. So what do I do to get them? I go kill monsters. And if I don't have the cash to buy something I can't farm easily? I count to ten, give up, and go vent my anger on the nearest troll. Maybe he'll drop enough so I can buy it...

Same here. Been playing for months to get a nice "Base" of 50k/100k. And like you said, all the money >100k I can spent on runes, armor or beer if I want.

Just sell all for any price if you're in need of money. Sold my minipets for 10k when they were worth 30k, because I needed to buy runes that moment.

And who needs money in this game? All the stuff I needed can drop from monsters: weapons, armor and runes. Hell, some monsters are nice enough to drop mods so I can make my own uberweapon. I don't need money for HP/MP-pills or to repair my weapon like in other games.

I dont know about youguys, but Id rather find a green than a gold... at least its for sure max.

Hell, I earned all the greens I have, too- with the exception of Ungues of ht Oni I bought for 10k... but I earned that 10k too.

I take pride in my greens more than my golds, simply because I had to fight someone for it, not just get lucky on a 'chest run'.

I have not ever been a FARMER so to speak... but I am proof that dedication to an objective will yield the results you desire. Most of my green drops were obtained with my Mesmer-> so you know I aint solo farmin.

I have almost 300k gold saved just WAITING for me to get to the 15k armor area... this is after playing roughly 4 hours a day for two months with newly created Factions characters... granted it is MUCH easier to amass a fortune in factions with the bigger rewards and higher level enemies on average. Heck you can make 50k easy just standing around Shing Jea selling max items for a few hours.

Actually lets see GW1- took me 4 days of fire islanding to save up for my 15k armor....

GW2- had 15k after getting done with Naphui Quarter.

Besides, if you REALLY want gold, just get really good at dragons throat and play that a few times... easy to get some plats...

With how cheap items are being sold for these days, there is no reason why anyone playin the game for a few weeks shouldnt have been able to find at least ONE wanted item for cheap from another player.

Sheesh Totem Axe is goin for 5-10k now... everyone should have one :P Ive even seen Kanaxai's Greens go for 30k recently...

Besides... if you arent SKILLED enough- youre items will be useless compared to someone with with seemingly lesser items/ low cost armor.

Getting money is easly, first tome player think 1 k is a lot, I did the same, when I started to play I also thought the they are crazy buying 100k+ items,, Now I do the exact same skinn, wnter 20/20 Zodiac Longbow +30 hp, paid more for the bow than a green bow with these stats is worth, had to buy the mods also, but I dont care coz it looks great, and my platinums are a combination of 0 and 1, no use in my Real life.

I cant go and buy myself a Pizza and a Coke with 2 platinums, I cant spend then on my new shoes, cant spent them on any thing that I appreciate and/or need in my life, So when I get a certaion ammount of money I sepnd it so that guys that stock up on money can keep it for them selfs.

as a side note, sorry for double posting again...

but that guy at the top of this page has a good point...

you get plenty of collector items... just make your own max and then mod it as you see fit... nice thing is you can continue to upgrade it... (like you start with 10% sundering... find a 16%, a 18%, and finally a 20%)

Maybe once those whining people get enough money to buy nice stuff, they'll stop calling others E-bayers =D. As many have posted, please..please...stop accusing people of E-baying their gold. It's really not that hard to get money.

I would just like to point out that EVEN IF you have a perfect weapon (say 15^50%) it makes absolutely no difference from having a 13^50% or even a 10^50%. The mentality of item-based power is so hard-coded into most RPGs that many of the casual players miss it entirely in Guild Wars. Good job capitalist and may the people that play Guild Wars like Diablo 2 go back to Diablo 2 and never return.

I agree with the original post and this right here. As a casual player, I'm glad I have two swords, one 15% damage over 50% health and the other 14% damage under 50% health. It makes only a small difference in PVE and in the Alliance Battles I've done. How you use your skills and how you react to situations is far more crucial than what special weapon/shield/off-hand attributes you have.

Something I did early on (and I mean VERY early on) was to tailor my builds around the best available weapon I had at the time. I switched back and forth from axe to sword so many times it's not funny! It's called "making do." For a long time I was using a 3:1 vamp. bow for my B/P ranger. Every time I'd find a 4:1 or 5:1 bow, I'd expert salvage it (because I already found a +30hp mod for mine) trying to get the string. I got LOTS of wood planks doing this, but I finally got my 5:1 string. (it's a regular half-moon bow, too - no special skin)

Sometimes gaining wealth is the luck of the draw. I've personally gotten only 5 or 6 black dye drops in 15 months of playing, and only 1 item have I ever sold for more than 40K, most other weapons being worth 1 - 5k.

As for appearances, I have the armor on my characters to make them more enjoyable for me to play. Of my 5 characters, only my Mesmer has FoW armor - simply because I like the way it looks better than any other Mesmer armor out there. If I liked the FoW armor for my Warrior, Monk, Ele, or Ranger, better than what's they've got, I'd be saving up to get it for them, too. (I'd have to REALLY like it, tho!) I also dyed my armors in colors that I like. If no one's impressed with my dye jobs, I don't care!

I'm not a poor player, but I don't have any "uber-leet" weapon skins (I do have a storm bow, but IDK if that counts anymore). Buying them is a waste of money, as far as I'm concerned. When I'm in ABs and people start spamming what they're wielding, I respond by saying "I'm wielding a stick."

For the "gotta have low req." crowd: It makes no sense to me needing a req 7 Axe if you're going to be using it with Axe skills. You're going to have your axe mastery pumped up to at least 12 anyway (unless you want your skills to be ineffective), so having anything less than req 12 won't make one bit of difference!
