Mini's aren't that bad. But, 27 in a year is A LOT, and it gets really repetitive. I mean, all they do is stalk you and scream at you, if they have a sound. Also, it wouldn't be the same, knowing that you're gonna get a minipet for your birthday. It's like inviting your friends to your birthday party 6 months ahead and having them tell you what gift you're getting months before. It takes away from the aspect of playing the game for X amount of years. Sure, you can add more minis, but throw some other things into the mix. Like, you can either get a Mini, 100 of some Uberspecial alcoholic drink/sugary item, or 100 of some kind of potion that turns you into a random minipet until you leave the town. Well, it's all up to YOU, A-Net. So, all I can say is...Surprise me.

In complete agreeance with this. 27 mini's in one year, while great, is just getting tiring. the Mini Ghostly was awesome cuz no1 has even heard of it really. Give 2 year players something that is a complete and utter shock. Something that will WOW them.

From everything I've read in here, I think an emote or aura would be the best idea for a birthday present. It shows you've been around for a while. Not to say that the mini pets aren't great, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

We have come up with some good ideas as well. I mentioned the ability to have a "mini me" like pet where they are a mirror image of yourself! We also thought it would be a great idea to have a reward for guilds that have reached the 2 years in age.

Possibly a new town? New armor for characters 2 years in age?

How about a birthday hat emote, with the sound of new-years horns and a bunch of confetti

I'd prefer something other than a minipet. There are lots of cool ideas in the thread. I like the "weapon with your name on it" and "special quest that gives you a unique reward" ideas.

However, if you go the minipet route, I'd love to have minis of my pets (lynx, stalker, tiger, crane, hyena, etc.).

This TOTALLY gets my vote. PLEASE implement this. I am begging you. I only play my main character that was made from Day 1 of GW which excludes me from this title. Once again I am begging, please implement this.

Gaile are you guys missing something here? Because I just read through 19 pages of replies and about 70-75% said NO MORE MINIS. That's a rough guesstimate of course...

As far as some suggestions I read:

Increased storage as a gift? That should be something everybody can enjoy, not just 2 year+ old folks. Why is it that our storage "Chest" has the same number of slots as a backpack? 100 slots in storage is much more reaslistic. But then again who can walk around with 10 swords, 10 axes, and 10 pieces of heavy armor? Or 5 swords packed into a fanny pack (belt pouch)? But then again do we want that much realism? Nope we don't...we just want more space to packrat more junk into!

Reset our deaths to 0 for survivor? That's not a gift! Just fix the silly coding already! Survivor title bar should reset its XP count to zero when you die. Then it starts going up as you gain XP w/o any deaths. If I can get 1.5mil XP w/o dying then I deserve the title.

Chaos Dyes sound kinda cool but it'll probably never happen.

Custom Weapons sound good too but they'll just get sold off for profit unless you make them unique to that char/account. Probably will not happen either.

Emotes? Auras? Really they will be so "uber" for the first couple weeks after the end of April. Then about mid-May everybody will have seen them, people will be like "big deal I've seen it 100 times now", and they will go unnoticed.

C'mon GW devs...let's think outside the box here and come up with something unique. Something useful. Something that isn't about "I got this uber mini pet because I'm two years old! Listen to the noise it makes! I'm so leet!"

Don't you think that two years playing an MMORPG is quite a feat? Reward us vets for being loyal to your game and devoting so much time, money, and effort! Two years is a long time considering how MMO's are evolving these days. How many more birthdays do you think you'll be able to reward us for? Three? Four? This journey will not last forever. All good things come to an end...especially with MMORPG's.

Now that I'm done with my rant let's get back to the OP. If it must be a mini-pet then how about something we all can appreciate? Give me a Mini Leroy Jenkins already! You double click him and a nice W/Mo appears with droks glads armor. He casts mending on himself, runs into the fray, and then gets smacked down in one hit. Maybe he turns into a piece of chicken...cause at least Leroy had chicken. Don't forget the most important touch! He's gotta shout it...."LEEEEROOOYYYY JEEEEENNNKIINS!!"

WTB Mini Leroy Jenkins! 100k+50Ecto!

EDIT: Typos...and I'm sure there's more.

These games wouldn't count towards Gamer titles and no one would ever lose. Most of the prizes should be new items. Like a Super Rune of Holding, which would give bags 20 slots, or a Unique Token, which would be redeemable at a special NPC and would be good for one completely customizable weapon that can't be traded(it would be auto-customized for you) and could be named. There should be more than 1 game. One for minis for people who want them, one for platinum, and one for items and tokens.
I really like this idea, its got some original thought behind it, and please no new minis, they are old, and were great for a first birthday but not for a second as well, but if minis are in order then Mini Gwen would be awesome. Other then that I say the chaos dye is cool but impractical cause if you don't want it, then its worthless to you.

Minipet is also useless if you don't want one!

And if you find it worthless, sell it!

Neon (or "Chaos") dye is awesome because you would want to think hard what you spend it on. It would also work on green items. And if you combine other colors, the effect would be the same as on chaos axe.

I personally would also like to see some thing a little more useful for a B day present. I know that extra storage would be an amazing thing. And it would be cherished by every one. I also think a title wouldn't be out of the question. Some thing along the lines of "I know how to play GW!" or "I am 2 how about you" some thing to prove to others we know how to play Guild wars. I also think that we deserve to get some recognition for being on this game for two years!! So be good to us and shower us in presents.

I think whatever we get, it should be something that others can see (not just like more storage or a title) and should also be permanent(in the sense that it can't be used up like 100 ales or something that someone suggested). I'm leaning toward the emote or aura (not divine aura>_<) ideas. Just some kind of cool visual detail that shows you're two!

Great idea...an emote would be cool, although everyone would have it after a point....so they'd have to come out with new emotes every year.

Agreed. I want my vet Characters to stand out. Having something that gives you an advantage ruins the balance of the game.

But That's why I'm liking the aura Idea. Make our character's armor glow a bit or something. Maybe have glowing runes float around our character/scroll around armor. Or maybe a halo or something. Make our characters More unique. Add to them visually. Maybe an aura on your weapons, then on the 3rd year on your armor. (i'm not too keen on the boss aura, it's a bit obscuring) Make Senior Characters look like they've earned a special place. A new mini can do that but if we had something else it will show year 1 & 2.

Rather than another mini-pet I'd like a quest token that would give 2 year old players access to a unique quest, perhaps finding Gwen or more clues to her whereabouts.

OR

A new hero from Tyria to Unlock, a Charr or Grawl maybe.

But if it has to be a mini pet -

A minature Frog

A minature Lich Lord

A minature White Mantle

And a minature Gwen

Perhaps with so many people saying yes to miniatures, and many others saying no and giving other ideas. Why not just create a way for the person to choose what type of item they want? Give them like a like receipt for a item type of their choice that will be redeemable at the storage npc whenever they choose to redeem it.

The receipt could give them their choice of choosing between a random special maxed out weapon for their profession, armor, a miniature, a rune, or some other upgrades. The list could go on. This might be more difficult to implement into the game, but I think it'd solve the problem of everyone disagreeing on what to get for their birthday

This would indeed be the best way to do it, but i just cant ever see it happening. I dont think ANet want us to be able to choose, but it to be random all over again.

I would like to have a gold weapon which is customized for your character and you can choose what are the stats, skin and name of the weapon...
That would be a practical, unique yet untradeable item that your character can use... unlike miniatures...

But if it had to be a miniature... well... i hope to get miniature storage or maybe mini grenth?

It should be something cute and gimmicky, IMO. More miniatures would be fine, or costumes or auras (or party balloons, as I previously suggested). All this talk of there already being too many miniatures is missing the point that most of us don't have many. I've had one previous birthday mini and a bunch of pigs from the Canthan New Year - I'd be happy with more mini's.

I would like to see more thought put into them, though. Last year I got a White Temple Guardian for my Prophecies Ranger. That sucked, not because the Temple Guardian is a bad pet (I actually rather like it), but it doesn't seem appropriate for a Prophecies character to be given a Factions pet. Also, having different levels of rarity for birthday gifts is really irritating. Since we're not "earning" them through skill or work, no-one should be rewarded more than other players. Whatever the final gift - all gold or none gold, please!

I also agree with those who want a tradeable item - I wouldn't likely trade mine (unless it's socks!), but I do hate it when people begrudge others doing as they please, all so they can have some elitist little badge of superiority.

I'm still a year and a half away from my second birthday, but: miniature rain or rock beetle (greased lightning is effectively unobtainable, and I like the 'original' better anyway). I've loved these critters ever since I first saw them. They're just so cute!

I think the present should be somethign that doesnt give you advantage over "younger" players, so definately a no to armor or weapons as long as its not only a unique skin. More storage would be nice too, but also its not fair against younger players.

As Minipet I tend to something funny too, like

Mini Yak
Mini frog
Mini Djinn (how about a dyeable djinn)?
Mini Dwayna, Lyssa or one of the other gods

I would prefer new moves or a new DANCE over minpets tho...a dance like in the CEs with glow. Or just a special new glow. Yes. I think i like the glow best. Maybe a glow thats alos ther when u dont emote but only move and that trails after you. Preferably in purple Or dyable . In its unique-ness it would give credit to all those loyal players who stuck to GW for over 2 years.

What I'd really like for my 2nd birthday is a unique skin inscribable and customized (cannot be sold) weapon for my profession. One new weapon skin for each profession.

Something like this would be great too:

Ranger: bees/ butterflies fly round your character
Mesmer: purple spirals around body
Necromancer: dark twisting thorns circle slowly around legs
I'd love butterflies around my ranger.

But please no more minipets, or at least no human minipets... The "Miniaturization Signet" is a good concept though.
OK, if it has to be a minipet, i'd vote for:
Mini Glint
Mini Blessed Griffon
Mini Tiger
Mini Snow Wolf
Mini Celestials
Mini Drake

edit: Just read about a mount (like horse or dragon or unicorn): that would be great! (may be for chapter 4)

What is a title anyway but a way to show accomplishments and to differentiate your character from others? Rank emotes, protector titles, gladiator titles, the 'show off' factor is already there, i doubt an age emote will make much of a difference.

Isn't one of Guild Wars's main selling points the idea that time played does not equate to how good your character is?
What would be more important is hours played, not years since character creation, and I doubt an age title would display how many hours the character has.

I personally like the idea of a title, or some other method for showing age that does not take up storage space. Mini's are cool, but something new would be nice.

Yes it sells the games, but when you start playing the game you find out (PvE, and PvP) that the selling point is completly false.

If you think it's completely false you missed the point. Practice makes perfect, so of course time will improve you, ANET wasn't challenging that. But compared to almost every mmorpg, GW emphasizes skill and tactics over earned gear and level power. If you honestly think what they meant was that installing the game makes you an instant master, then of course you were wrong.

My humble opinion on some of the suggestions:

Title: So what if people see that you've had the character for 2+ years by title? It won't impress me to see it on anyone.

Aura: I like this idea if it's something you don't have to "trigger" to get it's effect (although being able to turn it ON or OFF is good - like choosing to show your cape or not). Glowing weapons, burning footsteps, etc. It adds a nice visual effect - and will satisfy those that like to "show off" (I'm not one of them - but I like the extra visual effects).

Emote: The Divine Aura is nice because it triggers whenever you do any emote... but I've got better things to do with my gaming time than stand around town dancing or spamming some emote. Running through town these days already looks like a circus parade as it is.

Customized Items: I like ideas like customized weapons. Ever since the birthday presents, I'm sure there are TONS of people keeping characters longer to get birthday gifts. I STRONGLY believe birthday gifts should not be tradeable and should be customized to the character. Having 9 mules pawn off their gifts for gold defeats the whole purpose of birthday gifts. Really, it should be one gift per character and only for that character (although I still believe it should be per ACCOUNT - but that's another story). This way, if you don't play that character - then your birthday gift just sits there (which is how it should be - not all the mules pawning their gifts away).

Birthday Island or NPC: I really LOVE this idea. Whether it's mini pets or some other reward... it would be great to be able to CHOOSE what gift you want. Nothing more disappointing than opening your gift and getting something you don't want/like... while someone else opens a Bone Dragon and instantly becomes rich (I personally would never sell mine for any amount of gold).

Conclusion: I originally wanted something more practical or useful - like more storage. However, if that will end up pissing off people that feel everyone deserves it and not just for birthdays... then I would love to get a (untradeable/customized) birthday token for an NPC or Birthday Island. It would allow you to select 1 mini pet and/or 1 permanent visual effect (like burning footsteps, weapon glow, etc.) for the character.
