[Dev Update] Hard Mode and Sunspear & Lightbringer Titles
prism2525
i guess it will be much easier to find max damage serpent axes/tyrian sickles and the like since higher-end loot in low level areas. not to mention the loot that will only spawn in hard mode. can't wait.

Sounds like a lot of fun ahead, Sorrow's Furnace in Hard Mode someone?
...and wait...*begin to think of a solo build to farm lvl 28 charrs at Nolani's Academy*
Keep the good stuff coming Anet (with some extra storage please!! )

I'm geniunely interested in the skill bar improvements on monsters, but I hope they don't come with a retarded DoA-like playstyle and "hard mode" environment effects that deal 200 damage to you whenever you breathe. I'd like to play GW against AI with intelligent bars and behaviour, not abusing prot spirit against retarded monsters that wand you for half of your life total.
But my WoW subscription has to be renewed on april 12th and I'll bet you anything anet is not ready within a month... so meh.
What about PvP gaile? Are you at least planning to pull that side of your game out of the pile of shit it's been stuck in?

This is so freekin awesome... all the old low level missions now have been revitalized! Kryta, Ascalon, N Shiverpeaks, Magumma... all have playability again!
Don't need Gaile or a "groupie" to tell you that, it's pretty obvious you don't. Anyone who's been paying attention to the game industry knows that making release dates is unrealistic. Why do you think that ID changed it's policy to always have a release of "when it's done".
If you think that late updates are because of a lazy team, you're just silly. Late deadlines are in every industry. From Pratt & Whitney to ANET.

Yay lockpicks! I cant wait to see how there going to work out exactly.

This could quite possibly be the best update ever in the history of Guild Wars!
I am so looking forward to redoing the old missions again :-)
Hopefully it will be balanced at "hard" rather than "frustratingly impossible".
I do have one question though. Will you be able to do Hard Mode missions with other players who have not completed the game on Normal Mode, or will Hard Mode only be available once you have the Protector titles?

Honestly now I can see them hold off if they want to until the next campaign to insert it. It would be a big marketing device for them to use in the next follow-up in GW. My question still consists of how the other, rather smaller implementations are going on the next skill balance. Also the Ranger pet control thing, and the new Mesmer PvE update.

YAY!
I've always wanted to help Rurik kill some lvl 20+ Charr
You'll increase his level too, right?.......

You know, I do not agree with everything ANet is doing.
--Begin my rant--
1) The game is increasingly forcing me as a player to take a specific cookie cutter build(s) to beat the bad guys. Specific example - without "Shields Up" in the Morah Mission, you are taking crazy damage and will have that wonderful wipe experience. So, a generic build that would have won in Prophecies will not longer cut it in Factions or Nightfall.
2) The game itself is getting larger and larger in scope, so that it takes more and more time for me to go and get all those needed cookie-cutter skills in every new campaign with not only the characters I had before, but the new ones I make.
3) I now have to farm (which I abhorr) to get the money to buy all those hundreds of skills. I did a quick survey and I have over 200 skills, regular and elite, to get spread out across all 10 character classes. I'd go to the Gold Vendors, but I have some pride left. And this does not even count the runes, weapons, and upgrades for the heroes, more cha-ching and farming (yech).
4) I have a real-life family and job, so unlike many of the people who post here I cannot just take a whole week or two off and play the game night and day until I get it done. So all you people who have debated these things with me before, and said "sucks to be you, I got time so I dont care", I am not giving up on promoting making the game easier as an option for us working people who can use the help!
--End my rant--
See? No shooting the messenger. You can disagree without making it personal.
Thx!

Starmidder, nice post I'm sure parts of it are true too. Because tbh they're really not making me want to buy anything else they produce (once guild wars is over). Everything they promise is either shit, badly implemented/designed, just plain late or all of the above. The only single thing they've ever got right was Sorrows Furnace. I'd take another 1 of those over another DoA or Urgoz (i refuse to mention the other piece of shit). I guess you could include the Tombs too.
Anyway, Gaile gave them a month at the most till this is implemented (considering she said something would be implemented yesterday?), which means we may get it in a exactly 31 days, all at once, causing the entire server to crash and burn yet again. Hell, maybe 1 day they'll notice the Bug forum and actually take some notes.
Can i just say in advance... well planned.
Fobdo
This is most awesome.

This news is getting a thumbs up.
I just hope it comes within the thirty days...And that I can still bring Heroes with me.

Maybe we should begin a new thread, but....
Vanquisher and Guardian titles!
I will venture a guess and suppose that Guardian is awarded for completing all missions on Hard-Mode. Sort of a Protector v2.0 title.
Any thoughts on the Vanquisher title?

I wanna know what this new Vanquisher title is gonna be...It sounds cool, though.
And PLEASE! Info on Lightbringer title!
Perhaps the fact that she didn't comment at all on it is a sign...?

Will we need to make new characters for hard mode, or can we take them back and forth?
Hopefully we can take them back and forth.

If they made it so you couldn't go back in forth between modes, that'd limit you from playing and helping your friends and other people in normal mode. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about, so don't worry.
Raxxman
I agree with the massive skill requirement cost 'specially with heroes.
Gaile really didn't say that much so I can't see how people are getting so excited...
What I'd like to see is random monster skill bars (like 6 or 7 well thought out builds per class put into your foes at random). This, along with random spawns would eliminate cookie cutter builds and force some diversification and make the game harder.

As long as new skillbars means new skills that we have access to (AKA, no more Enraged), then this should be promising. New drops as well? Should be fun.

First off, I give you all at ANET a big pat on the back for making this adjustment. Its a great move and one that meets the "significant change required in GW" from people I've spoken to. On that note, I do honestly hope that you guys will do something regarding the "mob coding" in missions and quests so that there is some kind of fluctuation in what a party will run into. For example, Anguish is a great challenge BUT it can really only be done with a few cookie-cutter team builds and each mob will use "X" skill coupled with "Y" and "Z." What I mean is, fluctuate the skill sets of mobs so that instead of the first one using alot of degen perhaps it uses energy drain/denial on one go and then another time its a AoE mob. Simply put, if you have a Para in Anguish... well congrats for making it but you are screwed for finding a team. Please avoid this! Thanks
MSecorsky
People talk about the Charr in hard mode...
... how about them Flame Djinn?

Most of that sounds cool, except for one part.
I am all for working on my treasure hunter title. But afking and spending hundreds of platnum so that I can get lucky title for better drops? NO thank you. So now it's come to the people who have money make more money, which is why I stopped playing other games. Dumb.

I am also intrigued by the Vanquisher title and what that is all about especially after it was under the impression of everyone that the Guardian title would be Masters/M+B for each of the missions in the three campaigns.
With Hard Mode, there should be better drops and such as well from what it sounds like. I'm happy about this. I wonder if you have a character that finishes Nightfall or Factions again but this time in Hard Mode if you will get another Amulet of the Mist/Book of Secrets.
What I am also trying to find out is how they plan on segregating (or if they even are) the Normal Mode people/places from the Hard Mode people/places. I'm not sure if they are gonna do that or if they are just going to mix everyone and force everyone to form groups and "weed out" the normal/hard mode people when they want to do a mission. The whole skill balance thing is going to be very interesting. I hope they have some tricks up their sleeves.

You're also complaining that the game is expanding and getting larger...are you just looking for things to complain about?

So are they going to make the aoe flee for hard mode and on normal mode it will go back to how it was?
Sorry if that was asked already I did not read through all of the posts.

Sigh for the "more PvE skills". Props for the rest, especially the rebalancing of normal play so normal players can play it. I can't wait to enjoy "Fun Mode" and let all the elitists have their hard mode without ruining everyone else's enjoyment of the game. Now I just hope they don't make too much of a dichotomy between them -- such as "hard mode only" heroes, skills (or even worse, skills that work differently in the two), etc. That is, I hope they stick to their goal of time and devotion to the game do not yield you gameplay-affecting perks.
On a reread: boo to the lockpicks. Yet more titles having an effect on game play. I'm still looking for hard mode to be rolled out so I can enjoy the endgame content of fun ("normal") mode once again.
