PC Gamer May 2007 Information - "Guild Wars Reborn"
Raxxman
Okay sorry if this has already been answered, but:
Is Eye of the North the last offical expansion for GW1?
I'm slightly bummed because GW2 isn't going to have a sweeping a story as the first one. Basically you're just a cog in the machine. That kinda thing always put me off MMOs.
Also what's classed as holidays for people who don't live stateside. IE what month?
cheers

lvl 20 cap was good for a while, but ultimatly it just limited a lot of players I think, PvE wise. With such a low cap many players got bored.

Oh and this is for those flaming away ignorantly at Guild Wars 2. You need to keep in mind that once the game is released you'll be looking at somewhere in 2009 or late 2008. That's quite a long time from now. Guild Wars has been in development since 2003 and released in 2005 and it just can't stay competitive engine wise. Anet has been restrictive with these chapters due to this fact. They certainly couldn't release a chapter that wouldn't run on machines from the first one now could they?
Guild Wars 2 was inevitable. Graphical issues aside look at what happened to Everquest. That series went on for too long before releasing the sequel which resulted in a flop. Honestly would you rather Guild Wars 2 to come out in 2015 instead? Think of all the time and money you'd have spent on chapters just to have to start all over again anyhow. Besides, we will all be busy with our Hoverboards and flying deloreans around then.
And as far as the content in Guild Wars 2 goes.... what the hell is the matter with you people? You get a couple of paragraphs of information and you think that's enough to judge a game so far down the road. I'm not saying there isn't going to be anything in Guild Wars 2 to complain about but give anet a break eh? Don't worry eventually you people may have a legitimate reason to complain about the content but right now you all look totally rediculous passing judgement so soon. If anything it's the timeframe of content we should be worried about. Anet has exceeded my expectations more then any other company and is one of the very few out there that actually give a damn about you obnoxious whiners. You should be so lucky.

As it stands now, you can reach level 20 naturally by following the storyline and completing two 15 attribute quests. Additional experience over level 20 does not add more attribute points. Having a limited number of attribute points (200) and limited number of skills (8) at a time is the aspect of GW I really enjoy. Since all players can easily acquire level 20 and all attribute points, the only difference between two players is their skill. However, if you have level 100 player that had a luxury to grind several hours a day with many more attribute points than level 20 player, the player with higher level will be better just because s/he spent more time playing the game. If level will be only an indicator of experience, then I am all for it, but if high level characters will have significantly better abilities compared to low level characters, a player that grinded more will be better than a player with better skill. |
I can see advantages for that system. I mean wouldn't it be fun to brag about how you killed a level 100 with a level 20

What happened to the "Greatness is based on skill, not hours played" philosophy that ANet Promised?

Anet still has the skill over time mentality, just look at Pvp. What is the point of having that mentality in PvE?

I, for one, welcome our new GW2 overlord.

I am HIGHLY disappointed in the level cap. All they need now is to slap a monthly fee on and its WoW! Oh freaking boy.

After reading the summaries, I feel sick to my stomach. I need to go lie down now. |
(Short version SL basically turned AO into a bad everquest-clone & messed up several classes in the process).
Oh well time for me to check out "Lord of the rings online" & "Chronicles of Spellborn" since I doubt GW:EN will be worth staying for (7-8 months until its released & then another year for GW2).

The most important question for (probably/many) people here: What will be the requirments? I know there wont be exactly information yet, but it would be great if we knew if you can play GW2 with an GW1-able PC, or if you need Vista/XP or things like that... Birthday soon and ill get my PC up if i need better for GW2...
Windows Me
320~mb ram
Radeon 8XXX
1 ghz
and gw1 runs on it, but not THAT good. if i need a pc with 2+ghz, 1giga ram and radeon 9XXX id start save money now <.<

Well I think this is a great step. Really seems like they are putting a lot of replayablity in this one. Can't wait for GWEN and GW2. I can't wait to see some pictures either.
About all the negative people, I can see you may not like the ideas but quit saying it will be another WoW. It won't be out for TWO (thats right 2) years. You haven't seen it, you haven't seen how the mechanics work, and you haven't seen how it will all be implemented.

All I got to say is WoW...literally..
If this goes the way it sounds, I probably wont be playing.
I seem to remember multiple times, gaile said "The lvl 20 cap will always be there, and will never be raised"
So much for that!

Ok so lets say they raise the cap to 60? What if it's 4 million exp (just an example number) and your char already has 4 mill exp? Do you become lvl 60 automatically?
I am very excited, knowing that there are no monthly fees.
What does the abbrev. GWEN mean? People keep saying it and I don't understand.

ANet was not made by stupid people. I can tell you right now, Infinite Levels doesnt mean Infinite strength. Im sure itll be more of a skillpoint/cosmetic thing or sort of A naming system for the current leveling (Leveling tell twenty wields bonus's, afterwards you just gain skillpoints) system. But ah well, We need to wait to see how it goes before going doom and gloom.

I'm neutral about it. With Guild Wars 2 i'm not gonna instantly jump up with the crowds and make witty little names like "World Of Guildcraft" or "Grind Wars 2" without seeing it. I cant make an opinion based on that info because some of it is damn right confusing. However i have faith in Anet and it is in the future and theres a hell load of time for development and information.
Guild Wars: Eye of the North sounds great though. It will be cool to finally head back to Tyria and explore more regions.Lookign forward to seeing soem of these new races and the storyline. Was pleasently suprised to see Anet had thrown The Great Destroyer back in to give us more lore about him.

I'll be honest, I'm sad this will be potentially it for GW1 and the possibility of a dearth of instanced areas worries me a bit. I don't play PvP much because I like to relax and go at my own pace. If I have to compete with other groups or do different quests because the group decides, that doesn't sound so great. I have the feeling that won't be how it plays out though, so I'll just wait and see. Maybe I'm misunderstanding that.

No! Guild wars 1 will not have transferable characters or such into guild wars 2. It's been said.

Your characters are not transferring over.. you cannot bring them to GW2 and use them.

I'm not pleased with this at all. So Anet are basically throwing what made GW unique and making a more generic mmorpg just without a monthly fee?
This quote especially angers me. If she had read the forums she'd know that the loyal fans don't want grind, don't want a high level cap and many fans actually wish anet has taken the extra step to just have removed levels altogether.
Chances of me going any near GW2 dropped drastically.

hmm..
i'm not sure what it is that i'm feeling...
i feel excited about GW2 but at the same time.. stunned.
Why should i keep playing now... if basically i lose what i've worked for.. ie.. characters.
but then again.. all the money(real) and time i spent playing this game.. buying all 3 chapters.. and EXTRA character slots! ffs!
I guess i'll have to wait to find out exactly what these "many benefits" are... *sigh*
Dont get me wrong... i love gw.. and will keep playing but.. just at this moment .. "Nurse! meds!"

quit whining guys...we don't know how they are going to implement the level cap and they still plan to keep it subscription free which was GW's main attraction. Who says there will be major grind involved...Take a deep breath and speculate / discuss without flaming or calling for the doom of Guild Wars. Hey, I'm excited by GW:EN and look forward toward GW2. Its still far away, probably another year until the beta test.
Can't wait for the hall of monuments, hehe it'll be nice to keep titles. Money, ble its fine.
enjoy

Looks like ANet reinvented the Asia grinder! Thought there was already Lineage 2.
Guess there will be no subscription fee, but an ingame item shop...

Look, GW2 isn't going to be coming out for 2 years. A lot can change in that time frame. They are still making the game. Give them some time. Wait and see what happens.

wait, i heard that we cant transfer our previous characters in the new game, if this is true...... DID I JUST WASTE MY TIME?!?!?!?
Sasuke The Betrayer
Stop talking about how it's "losing what made Guild Wars unique". I mean, what the hell's the problem? Everyone's been talkign about how GW Is crap without replayability, and then when it gets implemented you guys slap it right out? That makes no sense! You guys haven't even played, and I for one am EXTREMELY excited.

The increased cap does in fact increase PvE replayability a lot, and if it doesn't directly affect gameplay like you have to be level 95 or something to complete the last mission in the expansion, then increasing the level cap is a great idea.

So, anyone wanna talk about GW:EN?
How did all those tunnels appear? Did the dwarves build them? If so how come we don't know...did the dwarves forget themselves or kept it a secert?

To all those complaining about the raised level cap...
A higher level cap simply does not mean that a level 100 is better than a level 30.
It does not mean that you have to grind to be "competetive".
It does not mean that your level 33 Warrior will have a problem getting into a party where the predominant levels are much higher (well, unless you use the GW2 equivalent of Mending, that is )
ANet has done a great job of introducing high demand items that are no better in function than other, easier to obtain items. If you WANT to grind for those higher demand items (certain Green drops, rare weapon skins, FoW armor etc...) you are welcome to, but not having them will in no way affect your ability to play the game at the same level as someone who has all of it and then some.
This model can easily be used regarding levels. If at say, level 30, you stop gaining attribute points (if there even is such a thing in the new game) but continue to grow in other ways (ranks, titles, whatever) then there is opportunity for those who like to grind and earn the hard-to-get stuff that is in no way detrimental to those who simply don't want to or do not have the time to do it themselves.
Simply put, a higher level cap can mean many different things. It does not have to equate to higher level = more powerful character. Think outside the box. ANet does.

This forums are strange. I speak negatively toward GW2 in the previous thread, I get flamed and called a WoW fanboy. Now, everyone in this thread is detesting GW2. I don't understand people.
Anyways, GW2 is too late. We have about 3+ WoW-style games going to be released in 2007 (LotRO, WAR, AoC, off the top of my head). GW2 will be too late to make an impact. Even if GW2 has no monthly fee.

It makes no difference to me if my level doesnt get any higher as long as the content keeps me entertained. If the content is boring, it doesnt make it any more fun to watch my level go up.

1) New monthly payment >> Two thumbs up!!
2) New races >> Don't care. I love playing human race, since I can imagine myself as that character. May be I lack imagination to think myself as an elf or whatsoever. But I am open to new things as well as trying new races.
3) Higher level caps >> I am open for it, as long as it does not mean grinding. Let's give Anet a chance how to implement this higher level cap. GW2 will be a new game so may be there is a new leveling system. Let's wait and see how this turns out.
4) No character transfer from GW1 >> This one breaks my heart. I have created several characters and 4 of them will turn 2+ years really soon. Loved to play those characters and it would be a shame not to be able to transfer them into GW2. I don't need/want to transfer armor or items into GW2, just please allow us to transfer name, profession and look to GW2. Items/weapons or armor can be purchased in GW2. I just don't want anyone to steal my character's name!
5) PvP/GvG system >> GW2 is a new game, I will keep an open mind for new things.
One advice. Get rid of titles, please. I prefer playing with people who knows me by name instead of by rank. Some rankless players are more fun to play with than some ranked players.
I remember a guildie saying over Vent:
'Let's invite this guy into our group.'
'What rank is he?' was the answer.
'Don't know, but I faced him in HoH and we danced together on the altar naked for 6 minutes (this were in the era that HoH lasted 10 min.) and then we fighted each other. That was fun.'
This player was invited into the group and we really had fun!
