Blizzard? No.
SoE? Uh, no.
I don't know, maybe there are some lesser know MMORPGs with better customer service out there, but I haven't heard of 'em.

Isn't that just a little inconsistent? You also complain about the increased level cap. I have to admitt that I'm somewhat weary about it myself, but we don't know what will change with that: Have you considert the fact that the higher levels might be just for "cosmetic" reasons and add little to no advantages? I think we shouldn't jump to conlusions at this stage. Gwen will be in GW:EN, not in GW2, so you needn't worry about that either. |
Someone I forget who said that most of the ones complaining and flaming will end up buying the game. I can definately say that if that game is released as described in PC Gamer..I will absolutely NOT buy it. To me its not GW or an extention of GW and right now...I seriously doubt I will even bother buying GW:EN. Oh and it makes no sense to me at all that they will allow titles and equipment to move over into GW2 and not the characters themselves.
Count me out.

It made me sad but i don't know why Btw, what about the skills system? It will be the same? 8 skills at a time ?
And I don't get why i need to get "Eye of the North" Expansion to get some benefits to my future character ? Even I have all 3 campaings ? (btw i think i'll get EN but just being curious)
Thanks

I want to take forward 3 things to GW2:
1st, my names
2nd, my festival hats and
3rd, my minipets I don't mind if they are locked to my account to prevent selling but I would love to be able to keep my minipets
EDIT: Just seen I will keep them so I'm VERY happy now

No, I won't post any pictures or direct quotes, but I can say this: 1) The article emphasizes, over and over again (to the point of absurdity!), that there will be no monthly fee, or hidden fees. They even talk about how no one believes them when they say it! There will *not* be a monthly fee for GW2. 2) Some people are seriously confusing GW:EN with GW2. For example, Gwen appears in GW:EN, not GW2. Gwen, by the way, is dressed in a green outfit with Mesmer overtones; I doubt she's become a fire ele. 3) ANet states emphatically that they know some people will stay with GW1, and they will support GW1 past the opening of GW2. This includes the release of GW:EN *and* additional events and updates. So all the sackcloth-and-ashes stuff about GW1 "dying" is nonsense. 4) The new races will be NPCs in GW:EN and player characters in GW2. In GW2, they will have racial traits, so a Norn will be different from a Sylvari. No news about professions; my *GUESS* is they will revert to the original six classes in general. I'd prefer a classless system, but hey... 5) Instances have *not* gone away; however, the world will be persistent in some fashion. The article notes that ANet intends to avoid the kill camping/loot stealing problem, though it is unspecific as to how. At this juncture, I suspect ANet is still experimenting. 6) Richard Garriott's recent "clarification" (see the front page of Guild Wars Guru) is, in fact, a reaction to the PCGamer article, wherein they attribute certain statements to him. Garriott has disavowed such statements, and I suspect a PCGamer reporter took something out of context. Garriott has always been a strong supporter of Guild Wars in the interviews he's given. As a programmer with some experience in the gaming field, I understand what ANet is doing. It may very well be that many of the features people are begging for CANNOT BE IMPLEMENTED in the current engine. Adding a Z-axis, for example, means a major rewrite of the engine and significant changes to game balance and design. It may sound easy to do "X", but if you haven't written 100k-line programs, you probably have no idea of the complexities involved. I *STRONGLY* urge people to read the PCGamer article before wildly speculating and posting rants that have no basis in fact. Of course, the nay-sayers and doom-seekers will continue to see the negative in everything, so I'm probably wasting my time here... Just a note: This post will continue to be updated with Developer quotes and more to keep the information all in one place and to get it to you quickly. Please check back to this first post frequently for updates. |

Well, my guess is that since GW:EN is probably going to be the only product Anet sells before Guild Wars 2, it will create some much needed revenue.
I posted earlier my quick and dirty calculations of what 2 years with no Chapters will cost Anet:
Assuming 2 million peeps buy 4 chapters and $50 a piece: That's $400 million lost.
Keep in mind GW:EN will not cost $50, as it is not a full chapter, only an expansion. (My guess: about $30)
Also keep in mind Anet will be keeping all the costs of running the original Guild Wars on top of Guild Wars 2.
So, don't think they are making decisions about GW2 lightly.

Okay, I have a question for Gaile and the Devs. One that I seriously want answered:
What the hell were you guys thinking in releasing vague as hell info about GW2 at the same time as EN? This entire thread turned into a GW2 bitch/fanboy wankfest, with little to no talk on EN. You should just fire your PR team or something because now the details on a game that isn't comming out for at least two years is overshadowing an expansion that comes out at the end of this year.
Seriously, I want an answer. Post said answer here or PM it to me because this is bugging the hell out of me to no end on how inexperienced of a move this was.

Mordakai, I thought GW:EN is Chapter 4?
Roguish Seraph
Wow alot of griefers so far...and I haven't even hit page 3.
The OP only gave a vague summary of what is in the article and people are already crying and quitting like flies. *Rage quit* OMG NOEZ!
Take this into consideration first before complaining:
YOU havent read the article yet.
YOU do not know all the details.
YOU do not have GW:EN or GW2 so how do you know for sure?
Yes it sounds like, it sounds like, it sounds like...but how do you know?
Its not here yet! Why do you think its so soon they are coming out with this article? Because they want our opinions.
I for one am surprised by the fact the Anet listens to their consumers.
I mean come on...how many times have we griefed, bugged, complained, whined, cried, and begged for the whereabouts of Gwen?
And yet we are now given the answers in the upcoming GW:EN. And there are alot more instances where this happens. They listen to us and thrive on our response. So, everyone just take a deep breath and count backwards from 10. And chill...it hasn't happened yet. Complain when it does come out because your facts aren't facts yet.
"Seeing is believeing."

No, that's a common misconception. Technically, they will be NO more chapters for Guild Wars.
GW:EN will be the first (and last) expansion for Guild Wars. No new professions, several new skills, armors, etc (you can read the description on the first page).
As an expansion, it will cost less than a full chapter.
Think of GW:EN as a gateway between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. It will introduce the new races, and allow characters to link special items and titles to Guild Wars 2.

I wouldn't want to know much more.
The reason they announce Guild Wars 2 is in order to explain why there will be no more Chapters! If they just announced, "Well, all that's coming out this year is an Expansion with no new classes" we'd all be up in arms!
As I tried to explain above, GW:EN is a link to Guild Wars 2. GW2 should help sell GW:EN, and vice-versa.

* Mention last-minute info on GW:EN
* Mention it's the last release for the line of GW1 games
* Announce that they're working on GW2
* Tell the fans to keep their eyes peeled for info on GW2 in the future
There you have it, the guidline of an article that wouldn't generate (as much) arguing and assuming as they did with the current information they divuldged.

Just wanted to add something really quick after my other post where I addressed all the "this is a WoW clone" posts and the rage quit posts. This is to the wait for beta and see people. One of the best FPS shooters right now is Halo, but when Halo was showed off at E3, with a beta of a couple levels, everyone hated it and now people love it. So, in other words, don't bash a game until we have a final copy. But as others have posted so far, constructive criticism is good, not whining.

I'm really amazed about the reactions. Now, use your imagination and suppose... JUST SUPPOSE:
This is about Diablo II LOD. Now there is this announcement that in autumn a new expansion will be released AND that Diablo III will be out in 2009... What would be the reaction of the diablo community??

Another thought about probably why ANET decided to make an expansion and then an all new game. It is to hard to balance three games, let alone four, for pvp play. Having all the new skills with every new chapter made it harder and harder to foresee what will be abused and how. Also, all the nerfs to paragons made it hard for paragons to be appreciated in pve but because they were so strong with several of them in a group in pvp that it had to be done. Surprised nothing has been done, or as big a change if it has, to Searing Flames eles as they do a lot of damage with several of them in a group spiking.
EDIT: If anyone from ANET has even bothered to read ~1400, does this mean that skill hunter will finally be maxable?

When EXACTLY is GW:EN coming out? don't give me q3, cuz that could be like...July to October.
Also without Monthly Fees does that mean we get stripped of all the 24/7 support and constant changes...or will we be stuck playing the same game the whole enitre time...

They probably couldn't think up another continent and new classes, which makes sense since Cantha, Elona and Tyria are huge.
PS EDIT. word filters = lame as sin

Yes 150 new skills isnt that big a deal when Factions had 300 new skills. Even though I dont have the numbers around, I'm sure that Nightfall had more than 300 new skills because they put in skills for two new classes, add skills for assassin and ritualist, along with the new skills for the core classes. 150 new skills for all ten classes is only 15 new per class, so not nearly as bad.

I also am not a fan of the high/limitless level idea. Now, I have enough faith in Anet to not believe they will keep giving attribute points and health and energy past level 20 or so, because that is against their philosophy. I can, however, see them making it so that you gain power until level 20, and then all you gain is another level, another notch on your belt. That fits perfectly with what Gaile was saying about the idea being to show off seniority. Right now, you can kind of see your own seniority when you look at your skill points (unless you buy crazy tons of skills), but no one else can. I see this as basically wearing your skill points next to your name. Now, I know the idea of this is to reward the "veterans" and to simply be a superficial way to show off having been around for a while, and the "grind" in the traditional sense will not be necessary per se because after level 20 you won't gain any power. However, even a superficial difference can make or break you in PvE as far as getting into a group. How many times have you shouted, "Stupid noob!" at some Mo/E casting meteor shower? You might have kept him out of your group if you knew he was so inexperienced, but hey, he's level 20 so you reall y can't tell. In the new game, I can easily see group leaders in PvE advertising "GLF more for master's, lvl 50 and above only." Sure, a level 50 won't have any more power than a lvl 20, but at least with the 50 you know he's played a heck of a lot more than a 20 and has a better chance of knowing what he's doing. Identifying newbies may seem like a good thing, but good luck trying to get into a group if you don't have enough experience. The beauty of the game now is that noobs do get into groups even though they're inexperienced, because people have no quantifiable means to discriminate against them. Therefore, while you may not need to grind to acheive max power, massive leveling will still eventually become necessary to be accepted as a competent player. Wow, that got way longer than I thought it would. Just my two cents...
WLlama
Aww...I don't get to take my old heroes, bent over their gnarled canes, into the next Guild Wars series? Let's see...even though they may have unnaturally long lives (being heroes and all) I'd say 250+ years old is pushing it to be spry and lithe with their weapon of choice. More likely they'll be in little urns/coffins. Don't get me wrong though, it might be funny to see one of my aged characters whacking some termites with his cane...if he could still stand up without the support.
Anyway, enough with that. I'll be curious to see what comes as more information comes forth about GW2. I'm looking forward to GW:EN though it seems GW1 is coming to an end earlier than I expected. I can't say I'm surprised given some of the environment/physics model limitations and I'm happy to look towards the future for advancements. Still many questions to be answered but lots of time to dig for clues. I'll be eagerly awaiting the beta announcements for a chance at seeing before buying though.
Oh, and on a side note...what if they increased the level cap but either 1) made each level worth fewer experience points or 2) made the quest/mission rewards worth more so in essence you still level as quickly as in the GW1 series. Anyway, just food for thought...higher level cap doesn't necessarily means it takes longer (i.e. requires more grind) to get there.

What I meant was...you dont know what its gonna be about till its out. We know nothing, except Anet, and they are probably still writing it out.
I just think people are feeding off the negative opinions here and not giving it a chance before it is even written up.

Wow everyone who's demanding answers in a rude way to the devs and the company should just quit. Seriously you don't deserve a game that people worked on and gave to you for a free play monthly and you all bitch and whine that there isn't enough info on something, or there's no more chapters or it's a clone of WoW. You play it but then when you see something that's weird or odd you get...mad? Seriously mad. So mad that you quit the game even though you maybe didn't get the mag and HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE WHAT SO EVER what's happening by the end of the year and next year. We don't need people who abuse the chance to know about future GW and whine to the devs who made GW possible.
Like others who have said this, wait. Just wait. When I heard about it I was like "Oh okay." I wasn't even excited cause I had to wait and I don't know what's going to happen.
About the "copy of wow" seriously get a grip, WoW is a lvl grinder and all your "skills" actually depends on the armor you have. =P Hell I play both games. If anything go play some other MMOs if your so pissy.

Has any one given any thought to the fact that this might be an elaborate April Fools joke.....that would be friggin' awesome....and I would laugh so hard at all the people "going OMGWTGBBQ GuildCraft FTL..I hate you ANET!!!!!"
anyway to stay on topic, Seraph is right and as I said in my first post.....everyone is jumping to conclusions when all we got was a couple of
ideas that are being tossed up against the wall to see what sticks....I still say just wait it out see what develops then complain/whine about or hey god forbid they put out a good game you might even have to praise the game.

I can't say that I am interested at all in buying GW2. I mean.. The thought of getting to where I am now? All over again?
.. It's just turning into "another MMO." I tried WoW... and Vanguard.. Sure, they could be fun, but I stick with GW because it's not like the MMO's. The low level cap is a key factor in the game's success and I can bet most of you aren't happy with the news about not being able to transfer characters.. Those of you who worked for your FoW sets.. titles.. gold.. For what? Couple years now, some of you. Me, I've only been playing for almost a year. And I couldn't be more upset with this news. =/

/rank, protector titles, grandmaster-cart, elite skill hunter, gladiator, champion..
Discrimination exists in every game, and always will. There will always be the elite players and the newbs, it's part of what gaming is. I tend to play with hench/heroes, or with guild mates thus making the discrimination obsolete, but, when I am trying to do high end content such as DoA or UW/FoW I look for what I feel is the more difficult titles, mainly The skill hunter track,
1. because they have to have a ton of skill points meaning they have played alot
2. they have somehow managed to get to all those elites, that takes some effort, even if they were with other players
With 100+ skill cap, yes, there will be mad farming to level up, even if the benefits are less than worth while, but at least it does show time/some effort.
The idea of having a 100+ skill cap, I agree doesn't really sit to well with me right now, but I do feel they could go many ways with this. The levels could mean nothing aside from signifying experience, while the actual player development could be skill based. and the fact that it will become some sort of tool for seperating the newbies from the elite is just something you'll have to get over on a personal level. If it wasn't the #'s it would be something else, like titles.
I look forward to hearing more information on GW2 and the path they are forging with the Guild Wars series, and I advise all those who are considering quitting, to try to think outside of the box. Yes it may be diverting from alot of what GW is, but Consider how awesome A-net is, and the level of work they put into their game. Then take another look at GW2 and consider, there is still a long way to go in the development, and while many things are talked about here, nothing is set in stone at this point. GW changed the way many people thought about how mmo's play, I expect GW2 to push those boundries even further.
berlioz7
I have to agree with Detis Zan on this one.
The Herbalizer
If people demanded I be lvl 100 or whatever when it makes no difference between lvl 20 and lvl 100 I would not group with them. I use hench like 90% of the time now so I am sure I will hench alot in GW 2. Hench dont rage, they dont grief, are not noobs and arnt elitest.

Most, if not all, of you are saying, don't jump to conclusions, don't make an opinion until you see it, yada, yada, yada.
What I know, which is absolutely 100% fact, right at this very second is this ->
They have agreed to NO longer make campaigns every 6 months as they stated they would do for this world that they have created.
For this reason, and this reason alone, I will NOT be buying, or be supporting at all their GuildWars 2 game.
The major reason I got involved with this fantasy world was because I was promised that every 6 months that I WOULD get NEW content. That there would be NEW stories, and NEW everything. That was attractive to me. That was THE reason I decided to lose myself in GuildWars. And now, that all equates to basically, one big, fat, lie.
I, along with many, many, others, will not be supporting your new endeavor.
18 months from now, you're just going to break the promises you are making right now anyway, just like you have just done with no longer making 6 month campaigns.
Unbelievable.

actually when guild wars came out they didnt promise anything about expansions, tehy only talked about that a year ago.
and they also never promised they would keep doing it, they just said it was their current business model, and that has changed.
also I hardly see why its a lie. did they ever say they woudl do it forever? and they themselfs have decided they cant keep up quality doing the gmae like this. so would you rather have a game very 6 months that gets crappier and crappier? or woudl you rather them fix it now. cause as it is, tehy keep fragmenting teh comunnity with more people being on diffrent continents.
insted now they are making a more unified vision where expansions effect all of the game, rather then just add new mechanic to one area. and that soudns more appealing. as of now, people have asked if stuff in old campaigns coudl be updated to match the new ones. and as the game sits now, that would be a hard task. so they are making a game that can eveolve better before the original crushes under its own weight.

Simply, I'll just play and after i beat the missions ill move on to collecting loot, just to see it drained away like in gw1. Gw2=best idea ArenaNet ever had, but that one thing is just too significant for me to look past.

They are abandoning the Campaign format because it required them to reinvent GW completely for every chapter, and it began to feel 'bloated' to them. It's also increased the tutorials and has created a barrier to new players entering the chapters. The Expansion increases the timeframe but allows them to do what they want to with the game, without worrying about new professions, or pre-lvl20 content. This is a new blueprint for a completely new game. |
