I have to specifically mention that the entire section of the PC Gamer article was very clear on the fact that these were just "some" of the new playable races. It stated that ArenaNet is keeping the total # of playable races under wraps but that they were able to find out these few.

Right now, we technically have 10 races, in the form of 10 primary classes, with individual skins/models and armors for each, and primary attributes that distinguish them from the others. That's pretty much what races add to the table.
So, maybe GW2 will have race, then a changeable first profession, and potentially a secondary profession. Maybe all the first profession will have special to it, is improvement of attributes through runes. I'm betting the primary attribute will be done away with, and replaced by a species attribute. |

That's a damn good observation. It will take some getting used to and I'd really miss the Primary/Secondary system. But if ANET balances this well then it could be just as good or better than our current system. Still though, I was sort of hoping that races didnt affect the character traits and have the primary/secondary system for a lot more variety in appearances.
