Playable Races in Guild Wars 2...
Realm of Fiery Doom
Just out of interest, how many people are considering or are going to have a main character that is not human?
BTW, All of my characters are going to stay human. Until I get bored, anyway.

Humans are boring. I'd say all but one of my character would be nonhuman. Especially since there's supposed to be more than just 4 non human races according to the article.
Bryant Again
Charr Warrior ftw.
drakun01
Maybe one Charr for me, but most of my characters will be human.
PS The asurians look DUMB!

I love the magazine version of the Asura. I know I'll have at least one, of a profession that makes things asplode.

Depends if choosing the race is purely astetic, or if choosing them effects stats and/or quests.

PC Gamer used the words "primary attribute" in relation to races. That doesn't sound like a purely aesthetic choice.
The Herbalizer
only if the races are humanoid and are nice to look at.
Gwmaster
ill make one of each
lyra_song
I want to play as a Tengu Cutter plz
Puebert
Charr Assassin. (If I can be an Assassin)
I also wanna see Norse (or whatever its called)

Knightsaber Sith
The Norn are shape-shifting half-giants that can turn into bears.
rawr!
rawr!
Sasuke The Betrayer
Hmm. In the PC article it said that each race would have some advantage, completely unique from the other races. I definetely would go with the Charr, or Asuras.
Thermoblaze
for 1.5 year i will see but i won t paly human i know that
GloryFox
Asura Paragon FTW....
Small attitude .... Big Spear!

Free Runner
My main "Free Runner" will be human. It would be weird to have a character i have played since the start suddenly turn into a mutant rabbit. Though i will be makign my other chars into other races - going for Sylveri and Asura. I do hope Tengus make it into the playable races stage.
lennymon
wouldn't mind playing a forgotton either
Norn's are historically the 3 sisters in Norse mythology known as fate (Urd), destiny (Verdandi) and necessity/debt (Skuld), aka the fates aka the wyrd sisters. Shapeshifters sound interesting although one can only hope their implementation will be better than the druids in D2. Can't wait till I can actually get a copy of this myself and look at some concept art

twicky_kid
Depends on how the race affects the stats of the character.
Ork Pride
One of each!
Sai of Winter
The great grandchildren of my chars will definitely be human, although I might consider making my Mesmer and Ele Sylvarian But for now it's human.
BustroQuick
Charr all the way.

Oh, I would be a Sylvari
Eighty Five
If the Asurians are small as they seem to be, from what I've read. Then I'll roll a Warrior.

I decided to expand mah list:
Charr Warrior, Asura Assassin, and a Human warrior maybe dunno. (I love warriors).
k3nn3tH123
Asura looks plain dumb. I'll probably be making one of each of the others, especially a Sylvari. But I'll only make a Charr if they look like the concept art version in the recent PCGamer magazine. That Charr looks so much cooler than the original ones.
black_mamba
just wondering, are humans a confirmed playable race in gw2?
Inde
I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but it doesn't seem to be emphasized. I have to specifically mention that the entire section of the PC Gamer article was very clear on the fact that these were just "some" of the new playable races. It stated that ArenaNet is keeping the total # of playable races under wraps but that they were able to find out these few.

IMO, if they plan on adding even more races than this, I bet the inherent species attributes/special skills will replace the classic GW1 "Primary Class". Think about it. Right now, we technically have 10 races, in the form of 10 primary classes, with individual skins/models and armors for each, and primary attributes that distinguish them from the others. That's pretty much what races add to the table.
So, maybe GW2 will have race, then a changeable first profession, and potentially a secondary profession. Maybe all the first profession will have special to it, is improvement of attributes through runes. I'm betting the primary attribute will be done away with, and replaced by a species attribute.

Lets say we are given 10 character slots...
My first main characters are definitly going to be human, I will have a charr or two, and possibly a sylvari (just because they look nice), and a norn.
If you look at them carefully, right now they are somehow related to other MMOs' Races.
Here is the comparison:
GW Human = any other Human
GW Sylvari = Elves? Pixies? Fairies?
GW Norn = Dwarfs to some degree, maybe Barbarians?
GW Asura = Gnomes, some other little tech. lover?
GW Charr = Orcs? Trolls? Some other savage race?
And it is noted in PCG that there are no set number of races yet, and these are just the ones decided already and known at the time of publication.
So, for all we know, they can add more races to match the "preferred races" in other games right?
YOU GET THE POINT RIGHT?

If the differences are merely cosmetic, I'll likely try one of each race except Asura.
Teddi
I doubt Ill be a human. maybe a Charr or Asura, whichever has a cooler land. Or maybe a Norn. Oh, i dont know! Doubt itll be human though.

Oh yeah, I'll definately make a Charr. They remind me of Werewolves, in a sense, and I've always loved werewolves
Also, definately a human or two, a Centaur if they got 'em, and probably an Asura, if they really are crafty tech-heads like I am led to believe. If the Norns can transform like ye olde Druids, I might make one of those, too. But I seriously think my main character will be a Charr. Definately.

I think since they are adding many different features to the game engine, we will get many more customization options, and probably each human kingdom is now joined into one, so we get options for all tyrian, canthan, and elonian facial and body features.
