Idea - REAL Green Weapons
Cebe
So I got thinking the other day. We fight through Tyria and defeat the Lich, thus saving Tyria. We brave the streets of Cantha, dodge the plague, and eventually destroy Shiro Tagachi. We put up with Kourna just so we can get to Vabbi for the nice armor...oh yea and destroy Abaddon. Next we're going to battle through the far reaches of Tyria to destroy yet another threat. My question is...why is Kenshi Steelhand (who is, let's face it, basically a thug) allowed a weapon named after him and we're not. How is he worthy of them? We're the heroes!
My idea for the end of Eye of the North is the opportunity to craft a truly unique green weapon. A green weapon which would we customisable in every way, that is, you can choose the requirement, the inscription, and everything else. You could have a sword, with req 9 death, and curses +1 (I know, why you'd want that...god only knows. It's only an example ok?). This would perhaps be particularly beneficial for Foci. In Elona, due to the inscriptions, if you have an Energy Storage focus you have to have a HSR Energy Storage (20%) mod on it...what if I want Air Magic?
To make sure that those weapons crafted are to be kept by the crafter they should of course be automatically customised.
One last form of customisation is, of course, the name. Any wammos out there ever wanted a sword called "Dragon Lord's Leetness"? One of the few problems I can see with this is you may get monks creating a shield with Armor 16 (req 9 Protection Prayers)...perhaps an idea in progress.
Perhaps buyable at the end of the game for 50k. Endgame greens with a twist. We're heroes...are we not worth it? If Bazzr Dustwing can have a staff named after him I WANT ONE!
EDITED TO CLARIFY ORIGINAL POST
Some people seem to have said things which were in my mind at the time I wrote this but sort of took it as a given...
1. Req 9 only weapons....otherwise everyone would make req 7 weapons...which would be stupid.
2. Only able to apply weapon modifiers which are currently around. Eg. No Armor +7 vs ANY damage...
3. Automatically Customised (although I think I said that above)
4. Limitations on naming: eg word filter...such as the one we have on naming our characters.
5. Specially designed skins. I agree it would be a bit harsh to people who have spent thousands of ecto on a crystalline sword if you could choose that as a skin for the endgame green.
6. It would be a one-off purchase. Once the personalised, customised green weapon it crafted it then acts like a green weapon. It cannot be re-modded. It cannot be sold to other players due to it's customised nature, it cannot be dyed (perhaps dye colour can also be chosen at creation), the name of the "inscription" is removed and only the stats are shown, it can no longer be remodded.
7. Character limit on the weapon name. Eg. 25 characters so there will be less "The Pwninator's Uber Noob Pwner of the World".

I like the idea, Sophitia wants her leafblade! a req 9 Expertise sword.
Sophitia's Leafblade, Hitomi's Hunting Staff, Bacon's Ecto Blade...........
One of the problems though is the fact immature people will name the weapons things like "Your mum" and then spam the fact there wielding it, so Anet would have to put a Filter onto the Weapon naming.
Perhaps this could be the final reward in Eye of the North, making a weapon (that will one day be passed on to ur descendants in GW2) You could expand on the idea and make it so the item is Forged rather than bought (by a weapon crafter and requires materials depending on the skin and attributes.) and increase the cost to something like 100k and then allow them to use any skin from any of the campaigns (including some new ones for Eye of the North).

First of all, greens ruined the game so why make them more superior.
Second, it would not be balanced in PvP.

Aslong as its customised and cant be traded, I like the idea! Maybe have everything be customisable like the skins too, and colour!
I just wish all end-game bosses dropped greens.
For instance you can get Shiro's swords and daggers, and you get end-game boss weapons in the factions elite zone.
But we dont get anything from the Titans, the Linch or Abaddon. The Linch could obviously drop the sceptor of Or, Abaddon could drop something Abaddonish and the Titans could drop something just as impressive.
If anything it would add insentive to do the Titan Quests.
GW2 needs to add actual real end-game boss weapons of great power. Not just regular boss greens. But have them be extremely rare and perhaps customised and non-tradable, and match your profession so you can use them.

Prefer to just choose a weapon like the PvP weapon creation system.
Benefit compared to current system: I can choose the mods I want, I like the forgotten sword skin, but I hate the sundering mod.
Shield r9 prot is just too powerfull.

Great idea, but it should be balanced more.. like you can't get a req 7 PP shield. much too powerfull.

In my opinion, greens were made to give the more casual player a chance at being somewhat competitive.
Furthmore this idea looks like it would totally destroy the weapons market.

i like the idea but i think all reqs should still be 9 and fit the requirement of the item. having a shield that required prot prayers is just... stupid...
edit: PvE only... LOL! so when you go in with a pve character, about to bash someone with your new weapon, 'this weapon is not permittable in PvP play'
like i said, keep it to the req, otherwise i'm going to make a +5 prot icon and bring back the prot bond farmer

I always felt it would be a cool idea, but I always saw it as being able to name one customised weapon, instead of getting one at the end of the game (Heck you could just have a weapon namer at the end of a campain) I support the idea in any form as longs as it's balanced so I can use my own weapon in PvP.

You also realize that, you know, you can switch weapons, right? Since, you know, energy doesn't do anything for you until you actually spend it whereas additional armor always has a positive effect.
If you can't grasp why armor is better than energy, maybe you should learn the game before you whine about needless additions.

Language filter would still be a problem with all the W/Mos. "I'm wielding John Doe is ***** ur mom."
Would be unbalanced in PvP (a.net has YET to add an item that can only be used in PvE and not PvP).
Destroys the weapon market.
High end greens with good BALANCED stats are already very easily obtainable.

I think when you customize a gold you should be able to put a new name on it that has relevance to your character. I don't really like the green idea though...

Have you noticed how much req 7 tactics shields go for? the reason is because they used them on monks to the get full +16 benefit instead of just 8 defense.
Theres also something called a negative energy set where it is common the monk will use a -5e weapon and a +30/-5 shield which nets you around 25energy.

ok one..... this is not tradable and you would get at end of campaign of working your ass off so this would not touch the market.
2 we have a chat filter so this would be easy to have a naming filter
3 pve only weps would be fine just like pve only skills they would become locked upon entering a pvp area and you would not be able to enter without switching them
4 a monk with a sheild in pve.... no one cares thank you
this would be great and people think about what you flame before you do, check your facts my friends.

well thankyou for trying to divide the community even more with the PvE only crap. i think the idea should be...
1) the item is customized as soon as it is made
2) The item will have your name before it. (in my case, 'Lifes Restorer's [weapon name])
3) the item is req 9
4) you are allowed to make ONE of these at the end of the game. you can't simply buy a new item such as a book of secrets.
5) the only thing that you pay for in this is the selection of skin. rarer skins should cost more.

Even without good stats, this will be great just to add you name before the weapon.

Make it that every customized weapon will have your name on it.

I signed this depending on how it was done, i mean if you can do it as manay times as you want for any skin all other weapons are pointless?
Id like to be able to have a weapon you already own and make that into a self named green for 50K. i suppose that would prevent abuse and not sink the economy (its already dead but meh). Otherwise it could still be create you own but limit out super rare skins and only have weapons that stay in the boundries of normal weapons (req 9 tactics bow is a no) such things would eaisly cause unbalance

on the conditions that you only can make one item per character and it is automatically customised (this means no selling your book of secrets type item to others).
No unrealistic stats (no marksmanship req swords, healing prayers shields etc.).
Req is not selectable, make it 9. (although I wouldn't mind having a req 8! ).
As far as the naming goes I could care less, let them name the sword anything they want, it just helps us out in the long run. If someone spams their immature weapon name then I leave the group, saves me tons of time in the long run instead of suffering thru a long session of leeroying idiots, useless name calling, and generally immature behavior.
This is a great idea and sure would beat the crap out of the greens we have a choice of in the end game right now.

Sai Rith
/signed. Of course i would drive down prices, thats good considering ANET hates farming for some strange reason. However, to overrule this "overpowered idea", make it all items have a minimum of req 13 only, so a monk can't gain the armor bonus when using a req 9 tactics shield, since theres really no way they can have 13 points in tactics/command/motivation and they definetly can't even spend one point in strength.

However, with limits. It would drive the market down considerably. BUT i do like the idea, if its ONLY an end game item that costs a considerable amount.
These items should only correspond to your primary profession. I think A-net would have to look into it and see what would be overpowered and what wouldnt. An Expertise staff for instance would really only help trappers, which I think should be implimented. But things like a Prot shield or Strength Focii would be incredibly unbalanced.
@ Sophitia - Lemme ask you, would a shield providing +16AL with a 15/-1 Mod and -5(20%) seem a TID bit overpowered? Cause i defiently think so.
Hopefully A-Net will take a look at this and make good decisions about what weapons should be alloted to which professions as "Green customization-able"
Examples:
Rangers - Bow, Staff
Warriors - Sword, Hammer, Axe, Shield, Staff (Perhaps..)
Monks - Staff, Wand, Offhand, Hammer (always thought that'd look cool)
Mesmer - Staff, Wand, Offhand, Sword
Necro - Staff, Wand, Offhand, Scythe
Ele - Staff, Wand, Offhand, ... Idk.. Bow?
Assassin - Daggers, Swords, Offhands
Ritualist - Staff, Wand, Offhand, ...Idk.. Shield?
Paragon - Spear, Shield, Axe, Sword
Dervish - Scythe, Staff
(Just ideas, Don't go into labor over these thoughts)
Also.. They shouldnt be able to be ANY skin. If so.. rare skins would be worth nothing.
