Legendary Survivor - the safe, easy and quick way to XP farm the title

@ibex333:

You're missing spirit bond. That spell will keep you healed up. It will heal you based upon how much damage you would have taken before damage reduction.

Does retribution and holy wrath do damage based upon what you would have taken or just what you actually took?

First try getting Legendary Survivor using this method..... THEN, tell me how fast and easy this was.

If you just talk math and numbers you should technically get Legendary Survivor in 10 hours... But unless you are lying, or you are a person with no life who plays this thing 24/7 you wont get this title in 10 hours.. You wont get it in 20 hours either.

I've been working on this thing for months.... 1st I was capping skills... ( too long, and gets risky after you get the easy ones)

Then I tried doing missions/quests that I didnt do before - too long, too annoying.

Eventually I got Indomitable Survivor and started doing this "grind".

I've been killing jades for weeks now... Spending about 2-3 hours a day.... And I'm still about 129 runs away by my calculations. DO YOU KNOW WHAT 129 runs is?! On average I can do no more than about 15-20 runs in 2 hours or so. It is really not as fast as some people say!

It might be faster with a monk, but it's NOT much faster. I've been farming with my monk pretty much since Prophecies came out, so I know what I'm talking about.

I'm getting Survivor with my Rit right now, and it is taking forever....
I could probably do this thing faster than I'm doing it, but rushing can get me killed.... Taking a risk to get a title faster at a price of loosing something I spent months on? I don't think so.

Once I get my title, I WILL be EXTREMELY proud of myself. I will gloat about it everywhere in GW. I'll brag about it so much, people will start telling me to STFU. I will curse out any person who will tell me that I didn't work for my title and it was "easy" for me to get. I will be by far more proud of this title then Protectors, Vanquishers, Skill Hunters or anything of that sort.

Again, I can see how someone would get Legendary Survivor in one day, but this person must have a brain and eyes of steel that don't get tired, plus this person must have no life. Hey, some people passed DOOM3 and FEAR in 1 day..... And it took me 2-3 weeks to pass each. My friend did it in one day too... Well, do I want to be him? Naahhh...

EDIT: I have to admit my ignorance.

Apparently 105 was NOT the way to go. I didn't read the guide carefully. Then again there was no build for rits there.
Bonded, and enchanted with symbiosis, I'm getting in excess of 2000 hp!!! That is enough to kill jades in HM.

EDIT2: Just farmed for 2 hours straight. It was faster this time because holy wrath and retrebution triggers much better on 2k hp than on 105hp... lol

Still... I'm only down by 10 runs! So if I had 129 runs to go, now I have 119 runs till r3.

An average run took around 3-4 min, and I didn't count but I'm pretty sure I did more than 10 runs... Still I cant argue against math. Took the amount of exp left till 1,337,500 and divided by 3600 which is how much I get every run. got 119 point something...

Don't no one be tellin' me this s*it is fast. Easy? HELL YES. Fast? No.

Just a basic splinter barrage build with eoe and running skills... think hit and run... the margs are from this one quest (you need other people to spawn them for you [it was a pain]), but i think anet nerfed the run because people were doing it for money, but i wasnt :P

Low AL + Symbiosis + Spirit Bond = low risk + huge margin of error + big heals + big damage from Holy Wrath and Retribution. The smite bonder does all the damage, all you do is tank.

The base build is the same for all X/Mo classes - just take a class specific elite if you don't like SoJ. For a Rit, use the Prot skills listed and take VwK, Protective Spirit, Spirit Bond, Balthazar's Spirit, Essence Bond, Life Attunement, Vital Blessing. You can run at any AL but low AL returns more damage. Protective Spirit is optional if you take Symbiosis and Life Barrier.

From Survivor to Legendary Survivor can be done in 8 hours. There are screenies in this thread of 15 hour titles from character creation. There's even a 10 hour screenshot - i'm guessing that was done somewhere else...somewhere they're keeping to themselves Looks like Dajkah Inlet.

Take XP scrolls, you can even use Rampager's for 2xXP. Each run should take max 90 secs including the enchants setup. 40 runs per hour including zoning, running & setup is possible. If you doubt it watch the videos. They're 90 secs max including skylarking.

If you're packing a pair of big old brassy ones, you could do the title at The Marketplace in 5 hours (from lvl20) by using Hunter's scrolls, continuing the run into Wajjun Bazaar and taking out the first 36 Jades within 5 mins. Much higher risk therefore i wouldn't do it on a survivor, but still doable for over 200K XP / hour

Less risky is the first 20 in 3 mins (10500XP with Hunter's), including the ele boss Lian, Dragon's Petal - it's the Survivor run i'll be doing from now on. Not quite so repetitive, can be done with one bonder with a chance of Elite Ele tomes and a green drop.

In my case I couldn't get Survivor on my title hunter because he's two years old and pre-dates the title. Running through the game for the umpteenth time to quest'n'cap one title is incredibly boring and a waste of time when you've done it all before. So i decided to find a way to fast-track Legendary Survivor on a new character if only for the Hall of Monuments bonus you'll get in GW2, not the e-peen you get from showing off your title.

If you'd prefer to stand on your soapbox and disparage those who achieve the title via alternate pathways that's your prerogative...but this is a FARMING forum so take your moral highground to Riverside.

I was thinking about making a new Rit for the hell of it to get Legendary Survivor (I won't since, well, here's no point) but get through starter island factions, get to Nightfall, run to the sunspear great hall, put it on hard mode and VwK the spiders and Hassin Softskins group.

204xp per spider kill, 600(?) for Hassin Softskin. There's about 15 enemies.

15x204 -- 3k xp for about 5 minutes work. One Hour - 36,000xp per hour

Throw in scrolls

Legendary Survivor - 1,337,500 / 36k = 37 hours

Throw in scrolls. Probably around 32 hours + however long it takes you to get to Nightfall (What, maybe 5-8 hours to play through starter factions casually?)

Just a thought instead of using a hero and splitting the XP.

After having dealt with a lot of spikes along the way for a cantha character, I think the best suggestion is for your character to sacrifice damage and get points into protection and buy the spell, protective spirit, as soon as possible. Put points into protection depending on how often you want to cast the spell. Consequently you can also purchase superior runes to get you a few extra points, just don't bring yourself too low in case you have to deal with degen and life steal.

For Nightfall characters, it's even easier to get to the marketplace. Get a run to the docks ~500g and then see if you can find a run to LA (you can get the quest to Kaineng Center from LA but you can't get the quest to LA from Kaineng Center. Also be aware that you do want to at least have your secondary if you aren't a monk. Just be aware that all your characters have very few skill points if you go there early so your spells aren't going to be that strong. Take along extra healing and make sure to have symbiosis (note that Koss can cast this spell with a ranger sub which allows you to allocate a decent amount of points into beast mastery).

Also for the builds, it would be better to swap balthazar's aura onto the smite bonder and have your main with life attunement instead since your main will have max Prot. Depending on how important life barrier is, you could potentially have more points into beast mastery for even more hp. Shielding hands is also a good spell to have depending on whether or not you use symbiosis. It will give you an extra second or so if you mess up your spells if your hps are in the normal range.

One more note is that your smite bonder's stats aren't at level 15.

Thanks Kaply - stats corrected, Life Attunement moved back to main char and Balthazar's Aura moved back to the bonder.

I've been mucking around with a longer run and lvl20 heroes -Prot was higher than Smite, hence the skill swap

Thus you'll have two heroes to help you out, Koss and Dunkoro. Dunkoro would have the smite bonder build using superior smite rune. Koss would have symbiosis and whatever else you want to toss on him. The key spells can all be covered. Also leveling Dunkoro to level 15 is a lot easier once you yourself are higher level. All I use Dunkoro for is damage. Just because he does a bit less damage doesn't really destroy the build, just slows it down a bit.

If you really want a second four pip hero you can get Meloni and have her sub monk which is almost the same as Tahlkora, just without the ability to use monk runes. It also saves you the trip to Jokanur Diggings and also to the keys. I find the necro mobs there with their death swarm to be quite deadly if you don't have high level armor and/or protective spirit.

The only dodgy part is placing Symbiosis in the correct spot and flagging heroes away an appropriate distance.

What level do you and the heroes have when you arrive at Kaineng? If it's still viable i'll update the guide.

You have to have at least level 5 to get Dunkoro, the main quest requires you to reach level 5 to do the secondary before you can continue. I would use Koss as a bonder in the early levels with mending and watchful spirit and basically solo everything I had the bounty for.

I think you also have to have one of the sunspear ranks to get Dunkoro as well. I believe I usually get Dunkoro around level 7. Definitely dangerous at that level even with Koss as a symbiosis hero. As a Derv main at that level this is the build I would run at that level. I would also try to stick as close to 600 hps as possible but that was based upon a false assumption and I haven't had a chance to try it again. It's doable and once you get started you'll just steadily get stronger. Around level 14 or so I would start leveling Dunkoro up a bit to get him more points into smite. Around level 20 I would get Dunkoro up to level 14 or 15 so that he can max out smite.

OgOB88UP0isX8b5NkQP0HA

Is the derv build I found that works the best, however the healing might not be as necessary if you have a bonder with life barrier.

Well, I finally sat down and forced myself to stick to this area for the full duration and finally got a Rt with the title. The reason my other characters failed with the title was because I kept going to the Ice Caves area to kill minotaurs on hard mode. This way I could use the 10 minute scrolls to save some plats. This resulted in various types of deaths.

1 - Messing around with symbiosis on a large area that requires traveling to multiple groups. Resulted in me getting agro without symbiosis up. Not a pretty sight.
2 - learning the patrols for the minotaurs. My bonder got smushed from behind. Then they killed the symbiosis and of course my hp dropped to 1 when that died.
3 - running out of symbiosis range to pull and then getting rubber banded back to the pack of minotaurs that I just pulled.
4 - being overrun by 8 minotaurs at once. Healing that much damage is hard.
5 - deciding to go after a chest while trying to keep all the necessary spells up... yeah I'm not that great at multi tasking.

I think this area is viable, just not with symbiosis. The drops can be good if you get some gold weapon drops, but mostly it's a lot of collector junk, minotaur hides never have any runes in them. There's a chance of a minotaur boss although he's never dropped anything good. There's also some treasure chests that can spawn along the way. I think in terms of time it's slightly slower since they give less xp but not having to zone and cast all the bonds puts it pretty even.

My spear assassin got her LS title by actually playing the game, doing missions/quests with occasional scrolls. Before the last Double Exp Skill Capture weekend we had, my experience was already around 670,000 or so. The skill captures got me the remaining exp for the title.

But that's just me.

There are videos in the OP for Mo/N, N/Mo, E/Mo and W/Mo...the principles are the same for all X/Mo classes.

Depending on the spawn 20 Jades can be done in 3 minutes for 11361 XP ...much faster than Ice Cave minotaurs.

Thanks for this!

I took my Elonian ranger to Cantha after I gained Dunkoro. I did all the 2 and 3K quests in Cantha with Dun bonding and me hiding in the rear. I then added Koss after Dunk leveled a bit and got Koss a couple levels. Finally I went back to Elona and gained Meloni and did a couple island quests until I reached Jokanur Diggings then headed back to Cantha.

I used Dunk to bond smite as shown, Meloni for vital blessing and succor only, and Koss for watchfull spirit and mending. My ranger casts symbosis and the prot skill, she has no offensive skills I just relied on the smite by Dunk. Several times I got too close to Dunk and he healed me and gained a few levels stealing some of my XP. Right now Dunk = level 18, Koss = level 16, Meloni = level 9.

So far it has taken 13 hours to Indomitable using mostly Hunter Insight scrolls killing those same 6 knights over and over again. I switched to Rampagers Insight for about an hour before I reached IS, but that's a bit more hectic and slightly more costly. So I think I'll drop back to Hunters again.

My Dervish took me 92 hours to make Legendary Survivor fighting and capping, this method is so much quicker. I think I'll be able to make Legendary in 25-30 hours. Woot!

Thanks again!

Thank You.

Finally got my Legendary Survivor on my warrior, and much quicker than I had planned on.

BTW, for those that lost your survivor on that Vizunah Square mission, ugh. I was also robbed in VS. Robbed of killing my Legendary Survivor in some sort of spectacular or bizarre way.

As a side note to that death bug, it happened to me after the first cutscene. Weird!

I'm shocked that Anet hasn't addressed that bug yet (lol....not). Anyways, enough ramble. Cheers!

Would it be possible to do this with the Agury Rock Hydras in Prophisies?

I'm wondering if they would be a good target on hard mode as they are so easy and safe to farm on normal mode.

Do you think you could modify the build to efficently solo them for a survivor title?

(In my case, I have a rit and do not have nightfall)

Anyone has opinion on which campaign to unlock hard mode? I plan to do this by myself (ie, without guildies or friends). Pretty much most of my buddies have moved on to other games.

Great guide by the way!

[EDit] NVM. I thought each character has to complete a campaign before seeing the hard mode button. After checking wiki, my survivor toon needs to be lvl 20 before hard mode kicks in.

Another point for this guide; my Ele was being run to Beacons from Ascalon City, and outside Grenditch, another survivor and I were casually stood waiting for the next zone when out of nowhere, a hydra appeared. It patrolled past infront of the outpost. You can dodge it by hiding down to the left of the stairs (facing out from the outpost)

That's how far I got before something stupid killed me.

I extended the easy run a bit beyond the 2 sets of jade knights by running and taking out the 2-3 jade mages next to the ele boss (the separate patrol group that the medium guide warns you about)...little extra xp per run and fairly safe since the mages hit for less than the knights do.

Now how did I reach "You have died 1 time."

Did I agro the jade knights when I was too close to my heroes? yes...several times...but I survived each time.

Did I accidentally agro the boss' group? Yes...several times...but I survived each time.

Did I accidently agro the knights on the bridge as I was attacking the jade mages? yes a couple times...but I survived each time.

So what did I do that people should remember not to do?

After killing the second group of Jade Knights I was over eager and accidentally ran beyond the symbiosis range before my health regened...sending my health to 1...still had 7 pips of regen but some how I died as I sat there waiting for my heroes to hit me with a heal. Apparently if you sit at 1 health long enough even with regen...you'll die. No enemies were near me as I was just about to run to the mages.

(BIG) sigh...time to start all over...what a waste of money...did mostly slayer's scrolls..

don't know if I want to try that long ass grind again...incredibly boring...I think I may go back to just playing the game to get survivor.

Well, after perusing the guide, its helped quite a bit.

I am using the VwK Rit build in your guide and the two bonders to do the moderate run. The smite bonds, combined with VwK and VW tend to drop Rits fairly quickly, much faster than 1 minute.

I just hit Indomitable Survivor at 11 hours, 4 minutes, and that includes 4-5 hours of just getting everything setup (heroes, skills, equipment, Marketplace etc.). Which means roughly 440k XP in 6 hours. Nice.

BTW, I used Adventurer's scrolls early on, up until I felt comfortable doing the Moderate run, and then switched to Hunter's for the 5 minute boss bonus extension. Gotten several gold drops, runes and even a Jadeite Shard!

I have a tip for the run from Kaineng to the Market Place - take the quest from Barkeeper X then go out, flag your henchies so they do the quest (kill 1guy) and there will be no pop ups at all (atleast not at the beginning ^^)

Just gotta make sure you don't take any other quests such as "Chasing Zenmai", which will spawn enemies on the safe route.

That run is one of the easiest in the game even if you don't take the Barkeeper quest (but with henchies that quest is stupidly easy...so why not for survivors huh?)....as usually it's very simple just to run past the afflicted that spawn next to the safe route (99% of the time you don't even agro)...and other than that...there are no enemies assuming you don't take any other quests.

Here's a little guide to the quests that survivors can safely complete to get easy xp around Kaineng Center and Marketplace:
First...to make things much easier in Wajjun Bazaar...
Take the Quest "The Search for a Cure" from Imperial Agent Hanjo in Kaineng Center. He will tell you to go find Bujo. He can be found a short ways away in Kaineng near the Skills guy on the north side of the town. He'll tell you to find three Jade Brotherhood Guild Capes. It's easiest just to take henchies down to just outside market place and kill the first 3 there (the same first 3 for the legendary survivor guide). Gather up the guild capes and turn in the quest. 3000 xp and now the Am Fah in Wajjun Bazaar (except for a few quest related exceptions) are your friends temporarily. Take the quest Seek out Brother Tosai from Bujo. Go find Tosai in Wajjun Bazaar...make sure to take a healer hench with ya for the next quest...no fighting but you got some temporary degen. When you find him accept the quest reward (3000 xp) and choose to "Drink from the Chalice of Corruption". This is where you will need the healer. Complete the quest (3500 xp) then decline to take the next quest (which is "Masters of Corruption"). Map travel to Marketplace to clear the degen condition (you will not get it again if you enter Wajjun Bazaar). Now the Am Fah in Wajuun Bazzar will be friendly to you.

You can easily complete the following quests with little to no trouble: (note: timing when you take certain quests can save you a lot of time)
Wajjun Bazaar:
-Guardsman Pah: Medical Emergency
-Kaya: Little Lost Bear
-Officer Chitaro: Imperial Assistance / Red Tape (Mutually exclusive quests, Red Tape is easier)
-Officer Chitaro: Luxury Goods
-Paomu: Problem Salving
-Saito: Assassination Attempt (take a full group of henchies and flag them to the position invidcated on the map...easy kill)
Budek Byway:
-Bryan: Going Home (can be trouble if you have Chasing Zenmai active)
-Minister Tahlen: Passing the Buck
-Nakai: Too High a Price (with a full group of henchies it's easy but careful you don't get spiked when attacked, or you can simply pay the debt (250 gold))
Kaineng Center:
-Barkeep Mehoro: The Drunken Master
-Guildmaster Luan: The Emperor in Peril
-Guildmaster Luan: The Plot Thickens
-Guildmaster Luan: It Ends Here (easy...just take a full group of henchies and flag them to the golems)
-Imperial Guardsman Kintae: The Afflicted Guard (easy...full group of henchies should be able to take them out)
-Imperial Guardsman Kintae: Feed the Hungry (flag a full group of henchies on the nearby bridge...they can take the afflicted easily)
-Xunlai Agent Honlo: The Xunlai Agent (flag a full group of henchies to the area....easy)
Raisu Pavilion:
-Emperor's Hand: Captured (flag a full group of henchies to take out the hosile Am Fah)(note: these are some of the few hostile Am Fah that will appear even if you are friends with the rest of the Am Fah in Wajjun Bazaar)
-Emperor's Hand: Naga Oil (easiest just to buy either the naga pelts or the plague remedy from someone in Marketplace or Kaineng Center)
-Emperor's Hand: Street Justice (flag a full group of henchies to each street peddler to take care of the Am Fah that spawn around him)

I think that's it...this will gain you a lot of levels and can be a good way to level up heroes as long as you have the heroes in your party when you accept the quest rewards (don't waste the quest rewards on heroes that are level 20). Feel free to add this to the guide to make this run even easier.

edit: While doing all of these I got 64,926 xp and 16 imperial commendations. That translates to my character going from level 6 (the level I got to just getting to Kaineng Center, I was level 3 coming out of Pre-Searing) to just short of level 15. Dunkoro and Tahlkora were at level 15 and are now level 20. Acolyte Jin went from level 11 to level 17.

(BIG) sigh...time to start all over...what a waste of money...did mostly slayer's scrolls..

don't know if I want to try that long ass grind again...incredibly boring...I think I may go back to just playing the game to get survivor. Tough luck...i killed four tier 1 survivors writing the guide working out the spawns, armour levels, skillbars and bonders
100% agree - the short run is effective but mind numbing with zero challenge which is why i started testing the longer runs.

By far the easiest and most fun way to do it is with a Me/Mo - with Mantra of Resolve you can't be interrupted and can tank 15 Jades at a time; Backfire, Empathy and Diversion own the Rits + Shen (the Monk boss) and you can clear all 95 to 100 Jade Brotherhood in *about* 20 mins for 70,000+XP (with 3 Slayer's scrolls). It takes less than 20 full runs in HM with scrolls to get the title vs 350+ short runs, so it's much less boring, requires fewer scrolls and at about 5-7 hours, it's less time-consuming.

I haven't bothered buying any scrolls lately - go farm [wiki]Byzzr Wingmender[/wiki] with a 55 [skill=text]Spoil Victor[/skill] build (works on any X/N or N/X) and you'll get all the scrolls you need.

Already went through another creation of the same character...first try at low level (level 5) and I got killed trying that life bond build (dual bonders with life bond on the smiter)...symbiosis ended early...taking a small break now...geting some skills unlocked on my second account...which will make running myself easier. Dervish/Assassin Dark Silence Runner is by far the best running build I've used. Makes the run from Ascalon to Lion's Arch a piece of Cake.

Trying to get my first legendary to be the first character I created...my prophecies ranger...I'm hoping to get it by the time GW:EN is out...so I can play GW:EN using her.

Welp, while this guide is of great value, I must say ANet's servers leave something to be desired.

Was at 1,217,621 XP on my Rit/Mo, got double interrupted, and double tapped spacebar logout, with over 1000 health left when I was sent to the login screen.

Logged back in and got the message "You have died 1 time." 16 hours of grind down the tubes. Makes me want to quit MMOs like this altogether when stuff like that happens.

Ah well. Such is life.
