Modding your own GW
Delta_24
If you run Texmod with a mod, and you need to install an update, just close it after the update is done and then re-run GW through Texmod.

Please don't hate me for interrupting but I've been trying to comprehend this thread. Before I read this I thought I was computer savvy. Well... I guess not. So all I'm asking is, Can I have a transparency mod? Thanks.
Arcane_Penguin
No. Not unless the models polygons are flagged with transparancy, all it will do is make every a shiny chrome.

no, you can't make your armor see-through.
actually you can, but the see-through will cause you to see right through your character, which is generally not what you want.

By transparency mod I assume you want it for nude mod purposes... not possible. You can only make the person completely transparent, and in some places, from my experience, transparency is completely blocked (there is 100% transparency (alpha) there in the original texture, and yet said texture is not see through).

So basically after tinkering around with it the only conclusion I could make was that there needs to be a lightsaber somewhere in guild wars, and arrows completely red to look like lasers. But im sad because the blue lightsaber I have won't glow because theres no glow effect for katanas =(.

If you are asking how to get that mod go to the official wiki and search mods. I believe that one is called Crystal windows. I like the Dark Glass mod better, the darker background actually helps to distinguish items from the environment. But thats my opinion

Anyone having any luck getting texmod to work with Vista? I cant seem to get it to work at all, just crashes as soon as it starts.
Sorry if I missed it the last 19 pages, I only briefly skimmed...

Red-Tide, it works on vista home premium fine with me...

Odd, Thats what i'm using... I'll give it another go tonight and see if I can get it working. Did you have any issues during setup? Did you have to do anything in particular to get it to run?
Thanks in advance.

Damn it, why didnt I think of that. Still getting used to Vista here, had the same problem with Punkbuster in some other games. If it wasn't set to admin it wouldnt download updates or anything.
Thanks for the info 007 & Yanman.

There are several client side mods that allow skin changes that YOU see on your side. for instance there are some screen shots of player warriors out there that have the character skin changed to some other unplayable character skin wrapped on it. Its been used in some fan movies and such... There are also some sound mods, and 1 interface mod that makes the GW skill bar look like hands with signet rings on it... (that one is kinda dumb looking actually)
The last mod I have seen is the old school ascalon login screen replacement... Basically modding it back to the original login screen... (done by extracting the original files from the DAT on the original CD for prophecies and modding the installation to use those files instead of the normal login screen.)
There are other mods that are considered cheats... In that there is a fog color mapper that lets you see more easily where you missed some areas on your map for cartographer. Or changing the u map to use the compass map instead.
And other mods that extract the hidden dungeon maps so they can be printed out for reference. Stuff like Torment maps and the new GW:EN dungeons have already been shared using this method.
While Anet does not specifically say you can not mod your client how you wish they are not necessarily endorsing it either... Technically speaking it qualifies as reverse engineering in some cases, and as such is against the EULA.
Basically as long as you are not gaining an unfair advantage by doing it or not abusing your mod abilities to allow you such advantages, I doubt they will care. Using a mod for making fan movies or for ascetic pleasure alone is basically the only legitimate reason to allow a client side mod. So keep that in mind when you do it. Arenanet is very unique in that they allow a flag for full DAT file decompression. This allows a competent end user to see the goodies early and in some cases do some interface tinkering for their own enjoyment.
When and if it effects Others in abusive ways, it will be taken issue with. Prime examples... the GH overlay button mod that allows Presearing characters to go to GH illegally... Or script mods that make fake mission queue (alla Tihark Orchard) to take you to maps you should not be able to get too. (this one has been mostly fixed so it don't happen anymore, since you can no longer use this trick to map to town points, and generally in missions the map portals are disabled.)
These kinds of mods are BIG, BIG, HUGE, NO NOs...

has that even been confirmed that's how it's done? as far as i know that was just speculation in the mallyx in presearing thread. gaile already said that was a result from an update a few weeks ago and they're already looking into it.

Ok i've been reading through this thread for some time now and really liked some of the creations, but before using them there are some thing i'd like to know.
First of all, if you use a custom made interface with Texmod, can you get banned for it?
Is it legal to use customize the game to just make it more fun to play without getting any unfair advantage? (For example GUI's)
Just want to make sure because i don't think it's worth to risk getting banned for some slight changes in my GUI...
Thanks in advance.

I'll explain for people who have a similar idea of TexMod.
TexMod drags out Textures, and allows you to modify them. This means that you are limited to simply changing what things look like. What was done with the Mallyx pet (well, speculated to have been done), was that the person/people modified the contents of the gw.dat file, allowing the ability to travel to the Guild Hall. This is NOT POSSIBLE with TexMod. Also, if you plan on trying this, it is COMPLETELY against the EULA, unlike TexMod, which has been deemed okay by Anet staff.
In summary, =HT=Ingram = wrong, Fenix = right.

On another note: TexMod only sends images to your VIDEO CARD, nothing functional can possible be altered through TexMod. Anyone who claims otherwise is either misinformed or talking out their butt. No FUNCTIONAL guild hall button was created using TexMod. No FUNCTIONAL mission quest queues were created using TexMod. It is NOT POSSIBLE to alter anything in the game using TexMod other then images, which are not functional, they simply overlap original images via you video card. Such paranoia, funny stuff.

True dr_ishmael and Fenix... I was meaning in general... Modding a program to do things it is not designed to do, no matter what program is used, is what I was meaning by those statements...
Its prob better to say skinning is basically all that is allowed. And leave it at that...
I know full well how and what texmod does, but didn't want to give the impression that ANY kind of modding is allowed. Cause even though its tolerated atm by Anet its not generally approved either.. That what I was meaning...
And it does not say Texmod in the title it says Modding your own GW says nothing about Texmod only... there are at least 3 programs currently that mod GW. Texmod is the most benign of them atm cause its primarily used for skinning alone...

is there any specific advantages of using .dds over .bmp? none of my .dds mods work, while all my .bmp mods work just fine. when i go back to look at the .dds files, everything looked... pinkish purple, as if something's been drawn over everything. am i just not saving then correctly?
JackRabbitSlim
Copying from the wiki guide:
Also, make sure you're saving your .dds files in DXT5 format.
Quote:
...the ideal filetype to use (if possible) is .dds. It has the smallest filetype which supports alpha, and is the native texture format which Direct3D uses. This means that using .dds does not require your video card to do additional conversions to display your texture, using even less memory and bandwidth compared to the other formats. |

Ive been messing around with text mods and doing all kinds of silly things such as this.
But for the HP bar, I found in textmod its is only 16 by 16 pixels long, and there are only roughly 5 pixels in the HP section to fill in (The rest is black for when your losing hp your bar is empty) What should I do if I wanted to add 80% check marks and 50% checkmarks?

TechnoSword, as Kuntz said on page 24ish, you can replace a texture with any size texture, as Guild Wars will stretch/warp it to fit the mesh of the object you are modifying. That means that if you made the texture for your interface huge, such as 1024x768, and then drew the texture on that sized canvas, then when you put it into the game, Guild Wars would shrink the texture down to the right size (in some cases making it much higher detail). This means that if you make the 50%/80% bar HUGE, you can easily put in the 50%/80% markers, and when put into the game GW will shrink it to the right size itself.

What are you trying to run? a self made one or one of the published by the guys here?, if self made, be sure to wear the exact item/armor you used before, double check the package log names, maybe try running the previous version of texmod, doublecheck if the program both gw and texmod have admin privileges.
and also is your videocard using dx9 to render gw?
