Honestly, the extra content sounds ok to me. Nothing that I would go out of my way to get.
In relation to purchasing at retail or purchasing through the online store:
Some of the reason why I am leaning towards the online store since:
1. I can get the pre-order bonus.
2. If it works as they say (being middle ground here), then I don't have to worry about trying to get pre-order price applied as a credit at the a retail store. I too have had this messed up before.
3.I can have GW:EN access at an earlier convenience instead of waiting for the stores to finally put them on the shelf.
4. The extra content is almost a bonus/thank you for buying directly from ANET.
However...
For retail:
Having a physical box and code in front of me is more satisfying if not also giving me a sense of ownership since I have something tangible in my hands.
If it is possible for the content to be released in some other form (IE:combined with future expansion for GW1), I may lean toward buying from retail.

Any hope of fixing the gigantic security flaw with using the in-game store locking your login name sometime before October.
I'd love to play the bonus missions, but there is no way in hell you're going to get me into that store until it's fixed. So no bonus mission for me I guess...

A suggestion on availability............
Make the bonus mission pack the 3rd year (account) based reward instead of mini pets.
Everyone has a choice then - take up the current offer and get to play sooner or wait and get the pack as a reward later on.

I currently have 2 accounts on Guild wars, both with all 3 campaigns, 3 of which are Collector's Edition. Also, for both accounts, I have pre-ordered and gotten bonus pre-order items. I have bought both accounts a number of extra slots, and unlocked (or am close to unlocking) every skill, upgrade etc with balthazar faction. apart from a PvP edition that will have no effect, or extra slots that I needn't have because I already have one of every class of character on both accounts.
Also, I am capped at 2GB download limit /month on my ISP; It's not really faesible for me to download GW:EotN.
It seems a lot of Veteran players want the box, the artwork, posters, and such when they purchase GW:EotN, and are extremely interested in this bonus mission pack. Myself and my girlfriend both really want to play these missions as we feel they fill in any gaps or answer any questions we've had about the campaigns so far.
I'd be more than happy to buy the bonus mission pack at some extra cost, but I'm not looking to buy, say, 4 character slots that i'd have no usage for just for the bonus mission pack. It seems a lot of veteran players are having similar problems, and would like to see other solutions.

All I have to say is...nice way to give a bonus and say screw you to the people that bought before that time, and now have no need to use the store. 50.00 spent thanks for the mules. Poor guy in my alliance bought Nightfall through the store on July 4th...damn should have had esp and waited the extra 24 hours.
I too, prefer the boxed copy of the game...so this looks like (unless available retail and then do we get to pay $30.00 for it and $30.00 for GW:EN too) it will be the only pack I don't have.

I'm assuming one reason they dont release these mission packs is due to the time it takes for manufacturing and all that stuff. We would have less mission packs per year if we were to have them on CD. If they were to sell them via the store, we get more mission packs.
However Arena-Net, Please consider bulk packages once a few mission packs are out?

I would like to have an option to buy 3 additional slots @ my local Guild Wars main distributor (Poland) or at least to be able to buy some "Guild Wars prepaid card" with some options (like the person above said) to be able to fulfill bonus pack requirements.
I dont use credit cards so this will be best option for me (to get pack) and for ANet (to earn more ).

Sorry if this sounds overly negative, but the main issue I have with the store - the lack of products I can purchase to accumulate what's needed to be able to obtain the bonus missions.
The 3 Chapters? Bought 'em all already. Prophecies & Factions boxed, Nightfall from the PlayNC Store.
Additional Character Slot? I've had an open slot for quite some time now, so I don't see myself in the need of an additional slot really
The Skill-Packages? Got all Skills either through doing the quests or buying them fropm trainers, will have all Elite Skills within the next few weeks of game play.
The 1 Million Edition Weapons? I have no use for them really as I have better custom weapons for my characters.
What's left to blow 20something bucks on in the store? Nothing really - until the Preview Package thingamajing will be available in the store - and I doubt they'll sell it for the amount needed to unlock the bonus missions.
Now, to gain access to the bonus missions, I'm kind-of forced to buy something from the store I have no use for, just to be able to gain access to those? Why not simply offer the Bonus Missions for the Price needed to buy other things for?
I'm all positive for the bonus missions, and I do want to be able to access them - but I don't want to be forced to buy things I have no use for simply to unlock it.

the bonus pack is released in november 2007.
and GW:EN is released in August 31 2007.
so just preorder GW:EN and you will get the bonus pack when it comes out.
[GW:EN (Aug)] - September - October - [Bonus (Nov)]
July - October is when this offer lasts
This is just inticing you to use the gw store and not a retail store.

Awww, what sucks is I'm obbsessed with having the boxart for all my games, but this bonus mission pack sounds awesome and I might just have to buy it from the online store.(Which is hastle free, and is also nice)
Dang you Anet and making me choose. ='(

So with 40$ (35€ for me) from the official store we get: GW:EN Prerelease pack, GW:EN itself and the Mission Bonus Pack in November, right? cool!

But now that I see so many die hard fans having to choose between the box art of Gwen or an online order - I'm beginning to wonder.
Let's face it, the target market for both are the die hard GW fans. They are the kind who like to collect the box and art. They are also the ones who will want to have the bonus material.
I'm starting to think the real plot was to try and get fans to buy BOTH - a boxed GWEN at a retail store and a downloaded version to get the bonus.
Offering two mutually exclusive deals, both desperately wanted by the same consumers - what a way to have your cake and eat it too - by making the customer purchase TWICE!
Pretty shrewd there, ANet.
Stormcloud
They arent making you purchase it twice, dont try to cloud it like that. No matter what you choose it is just that a choice.
Omega X
This is a bad deal in my eyes. I want the boxed version of GW:EN and there is no other way to get this bonus thing without wasting $29 in the online store.
They would have been better off offering this as an actual online product instead of the crude marketing tactic.

See the deal is.... You'll go through the box once-twice and store it away. Personally i'd buy it, Learn the lore, Read the Manual online and then borrow the book from my cousin if needed. Besides... its usually the same stuff.... Trial keys... That Keep your account safe manual (HAH!) and a possible world map.
Only thing usefull is that map... but its not exactly the best and I can do without it

Sorry guys for not the immediate back response; last night the GW guru server was down or something for me. However I E-mailed the support team about what is going on here. I even gave them a few links here to some of responses we have made here. Anyways I used the compile effort of what I had from the last few times. I sent out to them about the Gift Card Credit Card info and questions about the system; so this is what they gave me:
EDIT: Before I forget here is what they sent me before when I asked them back in February 2007:

We certainly appreciate the time you've taken to compile your thoughts and perspective on this. In an effort to clarify this for you, please consider the following: Prepaid credit cards and gift cards can work with our recurring billing system. However, it is important to keep in mind that not all prepaid/gift credit cards can be used for online, recurring billing services. What you were advised of previously (about checking the card's Terms of Service Agreement) is correct, and ultimately, it's at the card issuer's discretion as to whether the card itself can be used in such a manner. For a given credit card to be used in our system (even a prepaid/gift credit card), the card must have a verifiable billing address and be capable of accepting an automatic billing charge. If you have a prepaid card that you're considering the use of, we'd like to recommend that you check the Terms of Service for that card (and even verify this with the card issuer) to see if the card can be used that way. Please let us know if you need further assistance with this. |

Within the past 2 months I've spent nearly $200 from the online store over a few accounts, and inquired as well if they could concider the recent purchases, as there is nothing left for a purchase until the expansion comes out hopefully in the online store.
All the responses has been is a direct quote from the website about what the promotion is.

Is there going to be a Collector's Edition of GW:EN or not? I lie in the camp of having already paid for all the additional character slots I need (more than the prerequisite value), have all the campaigns (collector edition), and since I have unlocked a large majority of the skills, don't see any value in the pvp-only packs.
If there will be a Collector's Edition - that will be what I will purchase; an online key just wouldn't be equivalent. It's hardly fair to penalise those who have already supported Anet through store purchases. If a Collector's Edition of GW:EN will exist, can we please urge Anet to consider offering this expansion as a separate purchase in the store.
I'm sure that I would not be the only one affected by such a situation...

So lemme get this straight, I go to the online store, pay however much it is for GW:EN and if this cost is above £17 then i'll also get the Bonus Missions for free?
Also since you can preorder GW:EN Here , why can't we preorder it in the online store yet? Will we ever be able to preorder it there?

Title of E-mail: Unhappy about the unavailability of the Guild Wars Mission Bonus pack for retail customers
Quote:
Dear ArenaNet, I'm an enthousiastic Guild Wars players from the Netherlands who owns all chapters. I'm generally very happy with the game, but a recent announcement on the GuildWars.com website made me unhappy. I very much do not like that players who like to buy a physical retail copy of Guild Wars: Eye of the North will have no way to access the bonus mission pack content. I'm a PvE gamer and don't want to miss any part of the story line missions of Guild Wars, but this is about to happen to many of us. Players have many reasons to buy a boxed retail copy, like the physical items as the booklet and media. Also, many players are unable or unwilling to buy online. Therefore I would like to ask if you can please make the bonus mission pack also available for retail customers. Maybe in the form of a separate bonus pack besides the Eye of the North expansion, or maybe to include with an advanced Eye of the North box like a Collector's Edition. I hope that you can come with an solution for this shortcoming. With kind regards, <my name> |

Seams kinda unfair for people who want to want to buy the box. I dont see a reason why this shouldn't just come with GWEN or as a update in November.

I'm not one of those who has any 'problem' with this promotion, but clearly many do for a variety of reasons. If I did have one complaint though it would be the lack of items in the store. I have supported the store (and was happy to do so). I purchased Nighfall, The prophecies upgrade and a number of additional character slots. I have all 3 campaigns and have unlocked (or will) all the skills I need, so what is there for people like me to buy apart from upcoming releases? and the problem there is that many have expressed that they don't feel the store offers good value because they want the packaging.
Pompeyfan
So how much will GW:EN + pre-order bonus pack be in the online store as it's not listed yet?
Seeing as a boxed version of the game is £17.99 (looked at Play and Amazon) shouldn't a digital version be substantlycheaper as there's no associated printing/duplication/distribution costs like with a boxxed version?
Also, how come UK residents are being penalished - the current exchange rate is £1 = $2 approximately so UK players have to spend $34 at the store not the $29 US residents pay - shouldn't the UK spend mount be £15? this would be more in line with the US figure and a more resonable (but still too expensive) amount for the digiital version of GWEN.
