GW:EN Prerelease Bonus Pack
Mordakai
Has no one ever bought a pre-release bonus pack before?
It's basically like a downpayment. It is not the full game. You get some bonus (in this case, a head start and bonus items) and the purchase price ($5) will count towards the purchase of the full Guild Wars: Eye of the North when it is released Aug. 31.
And Omega X, I'd much rather have a head start where I can keep any items and gold, then another useless preview event which doesn't show you the full game anyway!
After all, it's Guild Wars. What do you expect to see? What would possibly change your mind one way or the other?

Is any one else wondering if the list in the press release is an absolute list, or will the pre-release box bought in a shop include any extra materials like posters and other items that you cant get virtually?
I doubt there will be a poster, I don't remember the other pre-release packs having them.
I hope there will be bonus art and music on the DVD, though.

Please confirm, that by Friday all the problems that the ingame store had before has(had) been fixed.
I bought my slot before and had no problems, but there's just a few posts here at gurus that's making me paranoid.

According to the press release: When you preorder Eye of the North, you get the bonus pack.
And I guess not having to buy Eye Of the north depends on the store you preordered from.

the prerelease pack costs $5. you buy that when its available, and the store will put you in their system. they then hold a copy of the game for you when it is released, and you then buy the full game for $30 or whatever the price is. depending on where you buy it, it may or may not deduct the $5 off of the sale price. If you buy it in the GW Online Store, it will put $5 towards your purchase of GWEN, and you will get no physical items.

It depends on the shop you're going to buy from. In Bulgaria if I buy the pre-release I pay the full amount of money for the game and when it is released I just get it from the shop or it is sent to me by mail for free. In other countries there is option to give a small amount of money for the pre-release pack and when the game is released you just pay the rest of the retail price of the game.

Not sure, bud judging from what EB games says...
"Online customers will receive an email containing instructions on how to receive the above items. In-store customers will receive a pre-sale box containing instructions on how to redeem the above items. Please provide a valid email when ordering. Supplies are limited."
So if you order it online you get what? a code? Dosent seem like there is anything else in that box and if there was, why would they deny their online customers said material?

After all, it's Guild Wars. What do you expect to see? What would possibly change your mind one way or the other? I expect to see a lot of things actually.
Both of those preview events helped me to make a decision on whether or not to move forward with the game. This Sneak Peak thing is no different. Its gonna tell me a lot about the expansion right off the bat. And if I don't like what I see, well you know the rest.
One major factor however that would make me change my mind would be how the areas play compared to previous areas. If its anything remotely like Nightfall's later areas then I'm keeping my money. I play games to enjoy myself not to be frustrated all the time.

You mean like how the preview of Nightfall did that?
That's my point: a limited preview event will not help that much. I avoid areas I dislike anyway (as much as I can.... too bad I couldn't avoid the city in Factions!)
I suspect the main reason there is no "free" preview event, is that there is no reason to try and get new players involved. I always felt that the previews were more geared to new players than established ones.
Hell-Fox: Gaile confirmed the pre-release will be available from the online store, it will take $5 off GWEN when you buy it from the online store, and it will count towards credit for the Bonus Missions.

I always felt that the previews were more geared to new players than established ones. No the preview of Nightfall didn't do that(My eye was on other things personally). But the expansion is already geared for established characters already. Which mean that it would be much closer to the truth.
Also No "free" preview event also doesn't really sway established players uncertain about GW:EN. They are using it to market the prerelease pack and gain preorder numbers but it could have been used to gain more exposure like the others did.

The pre-release pack is just a little extra. Most stores give it away for free when you place a pre-order, or charge a small amount of money for it. It only gives you the extra weapons and access to the preview weekend, not the actual game itself.
Mordakai
well, anyway Omega, you can always get the pre-release and then tell the store you changed your mind and put the money on something else.
Some stores let you do that. Sarevok Thordin
.......please tell me those preorder weapons are inscribable........that sword looks awesome but it's TERRIBLE with that inscription.
Thunder79
I'll point out that the expansion is designed for established players...and solely for established players. In order for someone to play the preview event they'd have to create a character. There is no character creation for GW:EN...thus no new characters and no need to allow people who don't own any Guild Wars products to get a free preview of content they wouldn't be able to play till level 20 anyway. This is distinctly different from the previews for the expansions.
I have no idea what happened with the prophecies preview as I wasn't interested in the game at that time. Factions set us as level 20 and put us in the Luxon/Kurzick areas. Nightfall put us as level 1's on starter island. Sure they could setup a system to allow characters from any one of the campaigns to be created and automatically transport them to GW:EN at level 20...but the expansion is for established players...so they saw no need to have a free preview... so the pre release, that is supposed to be on store and online stores this friday, taht contains, those 3 weapons, the tabula thing, and buddy and all that, is going to cost 5$? or i need any correction?
captain_carter
well there was a thread asking for better preparation of the pre release thing when it was originally announced a few months back. In this thread it seemed that sellers were able to handle the pack how they chose. In the past(apparenty) and one can only expect this time as well there were many different approaches:
-preorder the game, you place a deposit and get the pre release free at that time or as soon as it is available -buy the pre release completley separately for anywhere between £3-£20 -the pre release pack is sent at the same time as the full game on release(would be pretty stupid for this given the sneak peek) -some other more complex option. My interpretation of the information we have is that from friday this pack will be available as a completely standalone purchase of roughly $5, and will not constitute any part of payment for the actual expansion. It also seems that purchasing in the online store will cause an email to be sent to you so that you can get downloads or something of the extra material included with the DVD since a code automatically applied to your account would not get you these things. I would assume the same. Just to be clear: Buying stuff on the Online store automatically links to your account, so there's no need to enter codes, but they do send you a code via email for your records.
They could easily send the Trial code as well.

#%$# the sword Rel, Imma pop that Longbow on both my heroes for some ranger spiking goodness.
In all seriousness though, I hope to god the preorders are inscribable. Swords would make for epic caster swords and the longbows would make me a happy panda.

Weapon stats suck unfortunately, not too bad when you use enchantments though (depending on the prefix and/or lazyness).
Regarding detail. Doesn't GWEN intend to introduce high-res textures and more shader effects (some developer mentioned it)?

So i pre-ordered guild wars eye of the north. So does this mean that i will get an e-mail from arena net or from the shop that I pre-ordered the game?
meneer123
I just got the pre-order kit by mail today, I can enter the key, but it doesn't gave me the weapons yet. I ordered it at a Dutch store: Dynabyte.
Contents is not really shocking, just a paper with the key and a CD with a GW installer and some Nightfall movies, which I found a bit odd: why no GW:EN preview movies?

I know how it works cause a friend gave me on when Nightfall arrived but i dont know how you get it, so does the cd key the dvd and stuff come to my home or do i have to go to the post office?
Raziel665
Didn't anyone get it yet?
It was almost 24 hours ago they send out mine, so I expect it to be there when I get home in an hour or 3. I did kinda expect there to be people posting screens of the weapons by now.
If there arn't any screens when I get home I'll put them up myself.

Guess I missed Meneer123's post. But since he ordered from the same store as me, it should mean mine should be there when I get home.

Don't really get what you mean, but the kit is made by anet, so what good would it do to go back to the store? It is not like I am complaining or something about the content, but only thing is I found it a bit odd that the Pre-order pack of GW:EN contains a pre-view/promotion video for Nightfall instead of one for GW:EN.

Guess I'll go ahead and buy from the online store on Friday.

Lonesamurai: I think you are confusing meneer123 with t h i n e eyes b l e e d. (award for most annoying name ever, BTW).
t h i n e eyes b l e e d is the one who had questions about getting his pre-release, meneer123 already got his so has no questions, just comments that it comes with Nightfall movies instead of GWEN videos.
Sounds like there's no reason to get a physical copy.

I am debating what I should do with my money I want 1 character slot (please tell me that GWEN comes with one for 40 bucks you should at least get 1 char slot come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) + GWEN full version + 3x mission bonus pack. What is the best way I should buy these. I really want a boxed version of GWEN but I don't want to waste my money in the store.

Think its been mentioned several times that there will be no new slot, since there wont be any chance to create new characters in GWEN.

Hmmm, I just got home and added the key, but no weapons...
/bonus, /preorder and /bonusitems dont get them.
Maybe they arn't available yet, or there is another command to get them.
Also, the contents are pretty weak. While I recall the last one having a few types of bonus media on it, this one just contains Nightfall trailers, which I find pretty darn weak...
Guess they REALLY want you to buy GWEN trough the online store, cause this is just plain evil...
Right now there hardly is any reason not to buy it from the online store.
Which I won't, unless they add more ways to pay anytime soon...
