HoM could be such a wonderful place for us players, but if it's left the way it was shown in the weekend, well, it will be just a forgotten area that nobody cares about, and nobody ever visits unless there is a quest leading there.

I think the suggestions made in this thread would make it the area most of us would like to see. A more easy access thought the hero panel, our things, weapons and armors, being on display. Our titles written there.

It's ok if it doesn't have xunlai or npcs for different things, if we want that we can go to the area next to it. It would be nice tho.

And definitely should be account based, not character based. I'd like to see one nice HoM instead of 11 almost-empty to empty HoM. They couldn't even be shown to our friends the way it is now, because they would have to visit 3~4 HoM for see what have we done.

Me, my guildmates, and many friends were all very disappointed with the HoM. For a couple people I know, the HoM is the deciding factor on if they buy the game or not.

Through all the (very valid) complaints over the honor monument being PVP only, I think most people failed to notice something. It does actually respond to some PVE titles even though it only lists PVP ones for display. I don't have any of the pvp titles for it to show, but my monk's monument has an additional piece showing that isn't there on 2 of my other characters. Her monument has what looks like a gold/bronze colored chest armor piece hanging amoung the glowy blue haze. I assume that more titles would complete more of this shield/crest thing into a complete gold piece. Not sure what title the chest plate represents, but I'm guessing its People Know Me, Legendary Skill Hunter, or Leg. Cartographer.

The other 2 characters I took to the HoM only had the glowing blue placeholder. Both of these characters have beat all campaigns and one is Legendary Survivor.

A good solution to the question: "Should the Hall of Monuments be account or character based?" might be this next suggestion. The Hall of Monument I envisioned is partly account based and partly character based.
The Hall of Monument is a large building with an extensive central hall (just like every big museum like The British Musem or Le Louvre) where account based and PvP titles are displayed. This central hall has a name displayed. This name could be linked to your "Account Name" or customizable (just like you could make a Guild and give it a name, you are able to give your Hall of Monuments a personal name). Or make a quest to do in order to customize your Hall of Monuments. Here you are able to display your PvP titles, but no rediculous high requirements. Rank 3-5 Hero, Rank 6-8 Hero, Rank 9-11 Hero, Rank 12-14 Hero and Rank 15 Hero get their emote displayed. Champion Titles displays their current rank. (How many people has Hero Rank 12 or higher, highest Champion Rank at the moment is 5 and I have seen only 2 Rank Gladiator 8). Moreover, there are should be different Hall of Monuments. Just like there are different Guild Halls, there should be different Hall of Monuments as well. Some players like the current "standard" Hall of Monument others prefer something like a "Garden of Forlorn Heroes"; there are so many ways to display your ancestors.
From this central hall you are able to walk into minor rooms (just like every museum has its wings). Each room has its own name (name of your character of course) displayed above the entrance. In each room you can display the achievement of one of your characters. In these rooms character based achievements, i.e. pve titles are displayed. In order to keep it manageable for Anet, you are able to have maximal 10 rooms (for each profession one).

Summary:

Hall of Monuments: partly account and partly character based.
Hall of Monuments has 2 parts:
* Central Hall to display account and PvP titles
- Central Hall has a customizable name
- Central Hall has entrances to Minor Rooms
* Minor Rooms to display character based, PVE titles.
- Minor Rooms has a name according to the character to display
- There are maximal 10 Minor Rooms (for each profession one)

Additionally, make quest to achieve your Hall of Monument (just like Indiana Jones adventuring the old temples ) in order to be able to give your Hall of Monument a personal name. Or make a NPC to customize your Hall of Monuments (just like an NPC to register your guild).

In my opinion HOM, as it is now, needs to be scrapped entirely and completely redesigned from the ground up.

First of all it must be account-based.

Secondly you must be able to to display every achievement you have to immortalize your characters. That is how it was presented to be in interviews, but it does not deliver on that promise in the least bit. This includes it must display every PVE title, and any rank of any PVP title you have.

HOM also needs to show your actual armor, not bad-looking statues of characters/armor that have absolutely nothing to do with what you placed up there, as it does now.

I'm not even sure how the current Hero/Pet monument would have enough space for all the Heroes or pets a single character could put on it. Much less an account-based monument! That is to say, they trying to re-jigger the current HOM won't work. There simply isn't enough space on the monument platforms to do it. There isn't enough space to put up trophies for every PVE title one single character has either. These are the most compelling reasons why it needs to be scrapped and completely redesigned from the ground up.

I disagree with the wording in the OP regarding PVP titles because in my opinion it understates the problem quite a bit. Almost no one has R12 Hero or R9 Glad etc, because the amount of several thousands of hours required to grind out for them is ludicrous. The current ludicrous "high rank" required PVP titles is not "a minor inconvenience" as the OP wording could be interpreted to mean, rather it's a huge fubar of epic proportions. Every bit as big as the fubar of epic proportions that not displaying PVE titles is.

Account based because when i take someone into my HOM, or even if i visit myself - i want to see all MY accomplishment. Not just the ones on that character. From what i read i was expecting it to be like that.

From reading Gailes answers i get that they did not do it this way because of possible inheritance problems in GW2. They obviously don't want a single accomplishment inherited multiple times. /signed.

But then GW2 seems to be very much geared to playing just a single char, so why not allow me to inherited every accomplishments on the account into a single character.

To allow everyone maximum flexibility, just show a list of all accomplishements that can be selected for inheritance in GW2 and allow them to be inherited only once. Flag to be reset if the character that inherited it is deleted.

Armors: Please let us see the armors exactly the way we wear them, in full colors.
The HOM is a bit bleak as it is already.

Titles: I expected GW to be moving towards a "Play just one char" game so i concentrated much of my efforts on a single char for a while already. Only to find that all the PVE titles i got do not go in the hall (yet?)

Minipets: I will not put any minipet into HOM untill i am rdy to go over to GW2 if it stays customised to a char. To an account in GW1 i could understand. And possibly to a char in GW2 because of the inheritance thing

New functionality: I really really like the idea of being able to map travel directly to HOm and being able to buy NPC's to be in there. /signed

On a final note: Gaile and Anet seem to be very worried that accomplishment will be inherited multiple times in GW2.

Gaile even called it multiplying.

Why consider that a problem if it was already stated that is is just bragging rights and will NOT give you ANY advantage over new GW players whatsoever.

It is to show off the accomplishments of the player, so why want to link it to characters? I think this is where the difference in interpretation and expectation between the community and Anet is coming from.

But, as I have concerns about entire quest chains having to be redesigned to accomodate a change to account-based (gathering tapestry pieces), I voted character based option. I'd rather they concentrated on the individual aspects of the HoM (random professions for armour, mini pet customisation & the lack of love for maxed PVE titles) first.

my opinions:

1. They can't make everything account-based.. it would SUCK

2. Minipets really should be account-based..

3. I'm a 100% PvE-player.. and I can't even show my titles....

4. It would be very cool to have a rare GW:EN weapon..

5.I was so disappointed when I put my mesmer armor there and it showed a monk instead... I'm a mesmer, not a monk.....

6. I totally agree

7. oh yes, please add a pink dye trader and a xunlai agent in a clown suite

It shouldn't be account based, than it's not really about 1 person..more like a group of heroes.. I do agree that the armor parts shown should be the ones of the character itself. Also, my ranger both has elite-fur lined and studded leather, but it can only show one of the two, because they are both "Granite Citadel Armor". Minipets are not that bad.. maybe account customization would be better though. and i'd prefer to show every weapon I would want in the weapon monument.

I definitly agree This should be acount based where you can use all your
mini pets for any character there of its cool we can assign them to us
but it should be states assigned to user names acount only not
assign to character only.

Further more;
I too am upset about the fact we can not use this HOM mode for
extra storage space well it would be sweet we could pick up our mini pets
off the shelf and not have to have them waste storage space same goes for
our weapons that we can put up there as well.(SIDE NOTE: customized weapons should be custom for acount based so we dont have to have 10 of the same weapons that we like that would take up to much storage space.)

How about armor based that
would definilty help I too wouldn't mind having 20 or more sets of armor for
one character but lets face it we cant store that many on our item slots.
If in anycase it be sweet if we could do that so we have more fun mix and matching them to our liking. Although, for armor based that should be assigned towards the character only if You could store the he many sets of them that you worked so hard for farming materials and gold should be stored in HOM and not waste space in your inventory.
Another thing that anoys me about armor is that You have to either buy new
runes for your armor for a differnt build or have another set of that armor with that runes you need for that particular build. I feel every character you have for PVE mode should have it so that you can purchase your runes and what ever runes you put into that armor can be switched back and forth just like pvp except to do so you have to install the runes within them to do the changes.

Another wasteful thing is the limit we can store in materials and have on us.
If they would allow maximum of 1000 in per material in storage bank. They also need to have it so that we can take out a choice of how much materials we want out of the storage instead of taking a entire stack.

and Festivial item storage anything that comes out for festivals like fireworks
special beers and easter eggs and what ever else they throw at us like them
award coins tokens should have there own storage slot based on 1000 per slot. Although I not mentioned this they should keep the limit hold of them items on a player to 250 so that people wont go rediculous on prices or better yet drop the limit hold a tad so there would be less scamming going around in rediculous prices.
Gw does need a trade and sell place where prices are set traded by quantity and rareity so that people dont over charge others with scams and
items are shown as is so no one else can scam they will see a crystaline they will get it. NOt that switch really quick before trade goes through so that you give them the look alike weapon no one likes. A auction thats automated
after set prices goes and a 5 day limit for it to be up too or less by choice. They should have it so
the gold you get from selling your goods automatically goes into your bank acount even when your not there. Also in the trade zone for example: I want this for this amount of stuff. or willing to sell for 100k or 20 ectos kinda trade store; that runs even when your not logged in. AS soon as you log in there should be a message stating yoru trades or sells that has gone through and ask you if you would like to check your autions now. this should give a power seller tittle track or power buyer tittle track for the fun of it.

that's all i have to say but I do have more too add in yet I'm not sure how much left I can type within this lol.

I totally agree with the ideas listed above. I dont want my pets customized to 1 perticular charicter. I would like to show off my perfect oni blade, and would realy and truly LOVE a place to store extra armors. Looking at the same armor day after day, week afer week gets old fast. As for titles, I had thought that all titles would be posted in the HoM. I have worked long and hard to get all elete skills, grandmaster cartographer and more. whats the point in the PvE titles if we cant log them here? I do not do the PvP at all. I am hoping for a bit of improvement in the end also.

Seriously disappointed with HoM. I hoped it would be something big, but it's a pile of crap now, hope you fix it.

1. mini pets seriously account based, now its sux ass (hope you will add spaces for minipets)
2. Ever heard of PvE titles AreanNet?
3.There should be button that teleports you directy into HoM (similar to guild hall button)
4. Account based would be great, but there is question will there be enough space in HoM. Maybe in your HoM would be shown only the highest titles from all characters and so on.

Hope when i finish GW:EN all this would be fixed.

As a PvE player mainly its kind of annoying that after all the time going for the various PvE titles they seem to be just ignored. I think the majority of PvE players would like to see 'all' of their title achievements displayed.

As mentioned by Boone, it shouldn't be entirely account-based. Things that aren't exactly "accomplishments" like the minipets could be account based, but titles and armors and weapons, etc. should stay character based.

For accessibility, it would be cool to have a window much like the Guild Window that lists what you have displayed there, and has a button to send you straight to the HoM.

1. Although I do not think HoM should be account-based, as the benefit of having multiple characters is that you can have more fun whilst playing yet that understandable is counter-acted by having to split your time across them, HoM is clearly bugged and not working as it should do.

2. Agree 100%.

3. Agree 100%. It was implied that our PvE exploits would be recorded in past statements, entries, etc by ANet developers et al. It is completely ridiculous that only the top-level PvPers should have their titles recorded.

Achieving Legendary Guardian was not an easy task, especially as the weekend it started I was busy so lost the opportunity to play with many people who raced through the missions.

Maybe the monument could also show each campaign completed by the character in question.

4. I would agree that ALL green items owned and customised by a character should be on display. Maybe also rare gold items.

5. I want to make an important point. Some of us DO NOT LIKE the whole armour sets. My armour is a mix of Vabbian and Elite Sunspear. So I think armour should be shown even if it is not a whole set - otherwise people will get sets just for the sake of it, which is rather silly (we should buy armour because we like the look).

6. Great idea.

7. Meh, not a priority - fix and change the rest of HoM first.

1. Account Based

It would be very nice if it were account based, especially for consolidating all titles in one display and the minipets. The armor monument could get a bit crowded if one has more than one set of high-end armor on multiple characters.

2. Monument of Devotion
Customizing mini-pets to an account would be a resonable compromise here. Since you have to give your account a name, it should be possible to customize minis to the account name. (I don't think anything else should be able to be customized to an accoount, tho)

3. The Monument of Honor
I find it extremely ironic that in a character based HoM, the only titles that can be displayed are titles earned by multiple characters (I have a empty slot for re-rolling PvP characters ) and are account based! I do agree that the bar should be set a fairly high for which titles can be recorded there, but since every PvP person who has posted here says "too high" I'll sign any petition they have in support of the PvP title diplay requirements being lowered.

4. The Monument of Valor
- It should be limited to high-end weapons, but not just GW:EN ones. Gaining a tormented weapon is a huge accomplishment, why shouldn't it be recorded?

5. The Monument of Resilience
My MESMER has FoW armor - I don't have an assassin, my ritualist is a low-level mule (but those are the 2 on diplay in her HoM), why the hell would I want to display armors that are 1 - ugly as hell (IMHO), and for professions that I haven't developed or even created!

6. Accessibility to HoM
This isn't an issue for me.

7.Upgrades in HoM
Doesn't Eye of the North have all the traders and what-not? As long as the HoM stays where it is, I don't see the point.

ROAR - Rangers of Ascalon Return

R/P

/signed but only partially agree

1.) Account based shouldn't happen. The HOM is designed as a momument to " that " character and not an account.

2.) Only thing that annoys me about this is the display. Instead of seeing mini-pets all I see is lots of white writing that actually hinder you looking at the display itself.

3.) I would like to see a statue of my character here and the small blurp for P vs E is fine with me. This would get rid of some of the crying about displaying P vs P titles which I could honestly care less about. Max " X " amount of titles earn a satue of yourself.

4.) Yes on displaying the weapons you use. Require them to be customised to that character but we should be able to see that trusty weapon we have used since day one shouldn't we ?

5.) Armor - Disappointing display to say the least. I'm a ranger and I DO NOT want to see armor displayed on other types of characters. Need a general display fine but make it at least based on profession. So I don't get to see my own armor ( big deal ), at least it should be displayed on the right character class.

6.) Fine the way it is

7.) Could care less about NPC's in here

Same with armor. If I could put the actual set of armor on a rack in the HoM, then I could buy more armor sets since the extra set wouldn't be clogging my inventory.

I was expecting a place that could store tons of stuff, and organize it for me. I had also hoped it would say list all the quests I had accomplished across all the campaigns, showing me what was still left to do. But that was just a random dream. This is exactly what I was looking forward to also. I love all the beautiful armor, weapons, and minipets my characters have accumulated over the 3 campaigns so far (personally I have 6 lvl 20 toons ), but I'm running out of space even though I use several extra slots as mules.

I have one more gripe to add:

The mini pet shrine should display all of your mini pets or at the very least allow you to decide which ones to put on display.

There is plenty of room on the display for more minipets to be put at the back and I feel a little let down by the fact that I have stacks of mini pets but can't display them all.

The Hall of Monuments, as I understand it, will connect with GW2 (which is set 250 years in Tyria's future) in much the same way as the Smithsonian works in our world. Characters in GW2 will find the HoM, and see an exhibit about character X. This should be about character X, then...not what ANet decides qualifies character X to even be in the HoM (which makes every HoM the same...all the titles, armor, weapons coming from a limited list of qualifying things). I should be able to walk in and see my ranger in the "exhibits."

Imho, HoM should be like this:

1) Account-based.
2) A much more larger hall.
3) More achievements to display (hours of playtime, all the minipets, all the pets ever charmed, 15k and above armours etc.).
4) Minipets customized per account, and not per single character! It's crap!
5) In general, many more decorations, with more brilliant colours.

That's it!

I say Aye to all of the above. HoM is a big disappointment so far.

Personally i have a MEGA problem not being able to display my PERFECT req9 inscribile STYGIAN REAVER which drops exclusively and only in the HoH, and is currently priced at 600 ecto!!!; and that some noob can display his GREEN two pennys worth Axe of the Kinslayer!

And i think the xp-player with the perfect Crystaline very much feels the same way.

ANet please change the monument of Valor and do it quick!
