GW2 Suggestions Thread

LOL ANET would never get GW2 complete if it was to take on board some of the extremely grand and extravagant idea's found here !!
Try to think it terms of implementation and take into account what would be
required to do such a thing.
A game believe it or not , does have limits. And as Godly are Anet Staff may be, they have limits of possibility also.

God forbid even the thought. I will not be part of anything anime/jap related.
EWWW, cannot stand that scene.
GW CHARS ARE EXCEEDINGLY BEAUTIFUL!, and have such PERFECT appearance, just right mix between toon and realistic.
Infact if it was not for GW's overall stunning ascetics (A GATE TOO FAR Dungeon in EOTN! most beautiful play of light, color, shadow, motion and special FX , i have ever witnessed in a game!) i would not be
here playing GW today after 27 months, and 1000hours.
It was the presentation and Art Direction that made me fall in love with this game to begin with. From there it has become part of my daily life.

An idea after looking at the above post.
I have seen news about using your own face as an avatar on other programs a while ago and wonder, Could that be used for GW2? The technology must have been developed a bit more by now and what about this:
At the start of making a character you have the option of taking three pictures of yourself front and two side views, these would be then used to build a 3d picture of your face and would dictate the skin tone of the rest of your avatar.
I doubt this would be implemented but its an idea someone might find interesting.
And also would it be possible to make it compatible with the neural interface technology? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7254078.stm

Looking back on the history of Guild Wars so far, the future for Guild Wars 2 seems bleak if they do not change some things in their game play model.
When Guild Wars originally came out, the amount of grind in it was certainly minimal. But with time, required titles came into existence. Now, this can look good on paper. Do things for these people, and you get points towards them. Do enough things and get enough points and you can move on. Sounds good, right? Wrong. When introduced to the game it did not go so smoothly. It required grind to move on. That was not all, they added they titles such as Lightbringer which added benefits in game to those who could get a higher title. Where did their motto of player skill being more important that time played go. They were slowly the establishing the exact opposite. After Guild Wars Nightfall I thought for sure they would not repeat the same mistake of implementing required grind. I was sadly proven wrong. Along came Guild Wars: Eye of the North in which grind was now required for even simple things such as armor. Now, there will many out there who will say, "Well, you do not need to get the armor. It is optional." That is true, but when playing a game it should not feel like work or a chore to be able to access its content. If I wanted to get Eye of the North armor for each of my characters I would have to kill so many enemies to the extent where it becomes so pointless and repetitive I could care less. From such mistakes, the Guild Wars team can learn. In Guild Wars 2 do not continue to follow down the path of adding more and more grind with each new addition to this game series. I (And certainly many others feel the same way) really enjoy this game because their is so little grind in relation to the other games out there. Please, make Guild Wars 2 a game meant for fun and not a second job. Finally, if grind must be added, make it enjoyable. Do not let it be kill 3,000 of enemy X to move on. Be creative. In addition, many other requests come to mind:
I am really looking forward to this new control system and how players will become much more interactive with Guild Wars universe, but in addition to controls, I would like to see some other aspects of interactivity. Possible things include: Fishing, Farming, Mining, Harvesting, etc. Things like this can give players something to do when they get bored of fighting enemies. Another feature I would like to see implemented is emotes. These are always a great feature to online role playing games, and are great for both those who like to role play and those who do not. Emotes gives players the greater ability to show emotions in the Guild Wars universe and it would be really great to see them implemented. Also, perhaps the ability to affect the environment around you could be added. A ranger pulls out his bow and shoots an explosive barrel. A warrior lifts a rock and throws it at his foe. An elementalist makes and ice bridge across a river.Things like this would be quite cool to see.
Really, I would like to see greater custom-ability all around. When choosing a profession, players appearance should not be chosen as well. This would add a lot of diversity into the game. Along the same lines, more options should be available when making a character; hair colors, skin colors, body sizes, facial hair, eye color, hair types, face types, age, etc. In addition, the ability to change choices once a character is made. As many people have asked for before, NPCs like hair stylists would be great additions to the game. Weapons/Armor/Guild Emblems/Other Equipment In addition to character models, I think it would be nice to see some greater custom-ability in game. Like stated before, perhaps have the ability to put guild logos on armor and weapons, or for that matter the ability to create custom guild logos. Or perhaps there could be the ability to create custom weapons and armor (The armor/weapons could be made for characters beside your own, as well.) Also, professions should be able to choose from more weapons. Rangers could have short knifes/swords, whips, throwing knifes, etc in addition to bows. Warriors could have two handed swords/axes, etc in addition to what they have now. Perhaps spell casters would be able to use a two handed focus like a book which they read from and their spells gain more power. Also, some characters should have the ability to dual wield. For example, a warrior could have a sword in each hand. (Not dual wielding like assassins. Each weapon could be chosen by the player.) Other accessories for characters. Perhaps hats that could go over top existing head piece. Also, there could be things like earrings, bracelets, rings, glasses, etc. Guild Halls As for guild halls, the ability to add each guilds own unique flavor to it would be nice. Such as ability to change colors, add certain items (Pool Party?), etc.
Other Possibilities
Merchant Districts could also contain all the other forms of trade in the town. Including NPC merchants, auction houses, etc.
Also, there could be other modes of play than just tournaments in the Gladiator Arena. There could be challenge matches where you could challenge another character to a match in the arena. There could be Boss fights where either you alone or with a party go in and challenge a difficult enemy. There could also be other forms of tournaments such as team battles, player vs monster tournaments, and free for all battle royals. There are countless things they could do with a Gladiator Arena and it would be amazing to see, and both PvPers and PvEers alike could enjoy it.
In Closing I'm sure there is more I could write, but this is everything that comes to my mind right now. All I have to say is that I hope the Guild Wars team is listening because there are some great ideas in this thread. |

That would be a cool addition, although I'd still probably choose a premade face for kicks. |

1. Keep the number of skills, it keeps you on your feet.
2. More customizable armour --> For 10k you can dye your set black but for 100k we can make it glow!
3. Keep the customization system, Armour drops makes it easy to level up characters.
4. Larger maps.
5. Harder Elite Missions
6. 1v1 gladiator style PvP
7. I would love to see an in-game mic system, so we don't have to download foreign programs.(also alot of teams in HA and people doing Elite Missions require you to have one of these for its more effective)
8. Way way way longer storyline.
9. More skills.
10. Please keep the titles, just make em harder to get...(back before the sunspear titles..you know what I'm talking about)
11. More detailed armour, for example Kurzick Warrior armour has the same basic shape as Sunspear..
12. Keep the in-game report system.
Thats all I can think of at this time, but we should 'nt be looking at what we want added, we should be looking at what we want to stay

Most idea's have already been suggested, but I feel there's 1 missing: Decent weapon animations. For instance, when I use a staff, and look closely, i see my character moving his staff forward and a few ingame cm's before the staff a ball spawns in the air and moves towards the target. Looks ok for gw1, looks like sh*t for gw 2. Also, more diversity in weapon animations would be nice, example: staff number 1 fires a ball of lightning, staff number 2 fires a beam of lightning, etc. Also, make skills more connected with weapon types, a staff for instance can easily be used to slam an enemy with, yet all it can do now is a fire a ball, even at close range. Make skills interact more with this option so that a weapon becomes more diverse. Hope it helps.

Was just on the GW main site and saw that it has reached the 5M mark. Then a great idea occured to me that would help GW marketting.
My idea: Milestone Rewards. Whenever GW/GW2 reaches a particular mile stone, like say the 5M mark or 100k players online at the same time, Everyone gets a reward of some sort. I think this would encourage players to try and get their friends/family/etc to purchase the game thus increasing revenues. The incentives would scale with magnitude of the milestone and should be substantial and variable so that everyone gets something psuedo unique and worthwhile.
Anyway, I think the benefits far outweigh the costs of doing something like that. I just remember the 5M mark being talked about 6 months or so ago and I thought, "had there been incentives for the community to get their friends into GW, it would have been reached far sooner." I hope this is considered.

As an idea for GW2, I was thinking a Soul Reaping system that was a little more active, for example, percentages of energy costs of spells used on foes are returned, based on your SR level, and the current damage level of the foe. Worded right, it would be something like:
"You are refunded 6% of your spell costs for each level of Soul Reaping when you cast necromancer spells on foes that have less than 80% health. The maximum amount of energy that can be gained from a single spell cast in this way is limited by half your current SR level. You also gain 1 point of energy whenever a minion that you directly control dies for every two levels of Soul Reaping."
Scaled, it would look like:
Level | %return | max
0 0 0
1 6 0
2 12 1
3 18 1
4 24 2
5 30 2
6 36 3
7 42 3
8 48 4
9 54 4
10 60 5
11 66 5
12 72 6
13 78 6
14 86 7
15 92 7
16 98 8
This system rewards smart pressure on foes that have already been hurt, removes randomization from deaths, prevents exploitation, and still makes using more costly spells require energy conscience thinking.

1 Think that should be a really importent thing in GW2:
Don't freaking nerf all the fun stuff, remember back in the beginning griffin farming was the greatest thing in the world, then they startede to nerf and nerf and nerf.
It has really ruined the game sooo much now, it's so hard to get 100k if your not an elite farmer (danm bots).
Well I think some area's should be allocated for farming people the once who which to "live only by farming" to get some area's for that only !
I think also an auction house ingame would be the great thing.
Think about some dungeons like in WoW that takes a very long time to get through all...

Suggestion for Bans, Perma Bans etc. . .
In GW2 being that there will be seperate servers, consider using one of these servers as a "penalty box" for players that receive disciplinary action by an Admin. Offenders, cretins, and unruly players will be sent to the NetherWorld server where they'll need to complete some redemption quest chain, serve time, or hard labor(grind) to get themselves unbanned from their home server. No need to ban knuckleheads, just put them all on one server. Give them a chance to redeem themselves. Have fun toying with them.

Another idea my brain had. So Alderben (however you spell it) has toasted Ascalon and left a few hundred ghosts behind, i was thinking can i come to GW2 with my GW1 character as a ghost? Just in certain areas and only to communicate with people, strictly no trading.
Heres how my brains idea would work:
I want to have a chat with my mate bob johnson, to see his guildwars 2 character and have a general conversation.
i either dont want to swap to my gw2 character or dont own gw2 sooo i go to one of a few towns/outposts and type /meditate then i find myself appearing in gw2 as a classics guildwars ghost, transparent green or even purple. I can talk and see everyone else have a little walk around the town but cant do much else.
Why? You may ask, this i think would encourage people who have only bought GW2 to buy other previous campaigns and then encourage people with current games to buy GW2 because they have had a little look.

They should make GW2 a higher age rating to get some of the young and immature children out who think that the game revolves around them.
Change the game to a 16+ or an 18+, add some nudity (exessive amounts if possible), drugs (steroids, hash and the likes) and hardcore violence(lots of detail) into it. This should discourage their 'mummy' or 'daddy' to buy the game for them.
The ones that do get though..well....we will think of that when the time comes.

Sorry for quoting myself, but I was just thinking about this idea again. I know it's rather "Far-out" and likely reaches beyond what is currently planned, but I just wanted to add more to the concept:
Allow player to use the Story Editor while online, while in game. Let players enter the editor and story instances with their Avatar. Let them ride (or Fly) around mounted, placing elements, editing elements, right clicking elements for Context Menus, entering/developing dialogue, dropping Way-points; all while in the game chatting with friends, guild members; collaborating with friends, guild members.
Only allow players to use elements they have already unlocked in the game. Creatures they have not fought, places they have not been, would NOT be accessible until they have unlock them. Even create story collection items--elements that are unique to the editor such as clothing, crafted items an so forth. Instances could even require Vanquishing/Quest completion before they're are unlocked for Editor use; guaranteeing that players actually have a knowledge of the area.
Of course this feature has one extremely large secondary benefit:
The most robust Player Housing ever developed.
Quote:
Improve RP Value: This could be a huge draw for the GW universe. Develop a end user Story Editor. Allow players the ability to create quests, quest chains, dramatic events, tell stories all within the instanced environments of GW2. Much like the Bonus Mission Pack. No rewards only a chance to tell a story, about their character, clan, guild, alliance, etc. This would qualify as an alternate form content for players not as interested in constantly fighting, but wishing to create some user content. This feature would have a life of it's own, and a potential "pair of legs" to outlast, out-preform even Dev created content. Players could simply use existing instances, place Story NPCs, give them dialogue and link events, etc. Obviously this has one more solid benefit: In-house development of content would be dramatically simplified with such an editor. All content, items etc. remain in the Story Instance, players leave with nothing but a fun, unique experience. These stories could be found in the Halls of Knowledge or some sort of In Game Library. |

Player housing is a genius idea...its like the next logical stage of a Hall of Monuments. If my idea for attacking towns and guild halls works, you could get free warps to your home as well as your guild hall.
These are purely show off options but I think they would be cool additions anyways. I think that when a warrior or paragon uses a shout they whould actually SHOUT it...there is such a depth to the sound quality of the original Guild Wars it would be easy to associate an actual shout option with GW2...it would likely get annoying if you had 2 or 3 tanks shouting so you'd be able to shut off the option, but it would add realism. Furthermore, there should be spell casting components to caster classes on longer spells.

I have a suggestion that would separate the Sylvari from generic fantasy elves. According to the lore, they all drop fully-formed from a huge magical tree. So what possible use do they have for gender?
By making the Sylvari androgynous, the door is opened to making them more plant-like and alien, similar to the Avatar of Melandru. In other words, awesome.
Sure you'll alienate the fanboys who were hoping to slaver over leafy cleavage, and yes the Pretty Pretty Elf Prince/ss roleplayers will whine and cry, but both groups will be content with humans if the human character creation options are sufficiently diverse and beautiful.

Text options.
Text in quest log, and all other logs, the window background color, alpha scale .. . , the font style and size relative to the resolution the game is being played. . .
This would improve the appearance of Guild Wars dramatically. Even how the fonts are displayed over the heads of characters, monsters, npcs. Course some standardization would be necessary in PvP.

just saying anet has become way to dependent on fansites.
you guys should at least have your own boards, and there are so many site features on guru and gwvault that should all be official
for instances all the calculators and a million other things that should be officially made by anet.
i hope this happens for the new gw2 site.

They should also make naming more strict. No numbers, no in word caps, 2 names max (first and second), must contrain more than 5 letters through the entire name and no exessive use of double letters (eg. ee, jj, oo).

I for one would like to see more allowed when it comes to names. Saying that the criteria for names needs to be more strict because you can't stand the names other people come up with is being intolerant and overly opinionated. Everybody has a right to an opinion and a name. Asking for more restrictions on names just so it suits your style is a good way to trample on other peoples creativity. That said, I'll move on to my opinions for making Guild Wars 2(GW2) a better game for all of us.
Character Creation
This is where it all starts! I believe GW2 should feature more customization for characters at outset than Guild Wars(GW1). Options allowing one to choose eye shape, eye color, eyebrows, nose, lips, ears, facial hair and hair length would lessen the amount of clones running around and get people more into their character and the game.
The second part of creating a character is the name. Like I stated before, I believe names should be less restrictive than they are in GW1. Particularly the inability to create a character with just one name, as in you cannot create "Uziel" but instead are forced to come up with a last name for your character or resort to the name "U Z I E L".
Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2
Concerning the connection between your GW1 character and GW2 character, the current system sounds good, but until details are confirmed it leaves me both worried and excited. Basically, there needs to be assurance that ones titles, weapons, armor, miscellaneous items and time spent are not wasted. I'm not asking for my GW2 character to start out with all my stuff from GW1, I'm just asking for solid recognition of all the accomplishments and assorted belongings of my GW1 character.
The Level Cap
Looking at the 3 main ideas for this, which are: Keep it at level 20, move it up to 100 and remove the cap altogether, I would have to favor having no level cap. It is very true that GW1 loses a goal once a player reaches the level cap. You no longer have the joy of gaining more health and power as you level. You are forced to shift your focus elsewhere in a desperation to find a goal. Grinding for coveted items and titles is the only alternative to leveling. With no level cap in place, the joy of gaining and growing more powerful remains. Of course the issue of balance remains, so to fulfill this the power must reach a plateau, slowly dwindle and then cease entirely. After you cease gaining real power in the form of more health, attribute points and the like, you gain access to high level items and titles, purely for bragging rights.
Characters and their Weapons
I know it has already been mentioned, but I want to reinforce that people should be able to choose any body type and build for their characters. Warriors should not be limited to being hulks and Assassins should not be contained to lithe and thin body types.
As for the weapons used by characters, more choices would be great. Heavy two-handed axes, swords and hammers as well as lighter, dual-wield hammers, swords and axes. Allow anyone and everyone to wield the weapons and armor they wish to, with the knowledge that each type of weapon and armor has its own weaknessess and strengths.
More to come...

I hate seeing people going around named, Robot123! It just ruins the feel of the game. |

Some ideas of mine for GW2:
1. Persistent Guild Halls/Fully Customizable and attackable
- Alright, let's say you're chilling in town on GW2 and someone in your guild chatbox screams "HOLY CRAP! EVERYBODY GET HERE NOW! WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!"
Is it NPCs? Another guild? Monsters? Raiders hoping to steal supplies and booty from your guild vaults? That's the surprise!
So you warp to your Guild Hall and you are met with the sight of a few of your Guild Hall's towers getting blown to bits by a catapult. Looks like one of your rival player guilds brought along a siege weapon. Sucks to be them when they find out you've customized your Guild Hall with siege weapons as well for defensive measures!
So you took out their catapult using your own siege weaponry.
What's this? Four Norn Warriors begin slamming the gates of your Guild Hall with a battering ram!
Ok, before I get carried away, I'll summarize this up very nicely: Actual Guild WARFARE.
You have a fully customizable Guild Hall in this persistent world, and so it exists where other players, monsters, and NPCs can attack it, but ONLY when there are a certain number of your guild mates online. You don't want to be fighting 500 other guild members with only yourself and maybe two other guild-mates.
So let's say that there had to be 50 players online, but you can only match that number with your offense. Let's say the two guild masters even strike a deal to provide more incentive for combat.
If you win, you get this. If you lose, you lose this, so on so forth. Once the guild masters agree to the terms, the traded items/gold/etc. are taken from their inventories until the end of the battle so to guarantee that there will be no cheating.
After the terms are reached, and to decrease lag, the battlefield including the guild hall and surrounding environment could be instanced.
So it's 50 versus 50. Complete and utter chaos. Siege weaponry, destructible environments, and bragging rights.
Sounds like a good bit of fun to me!
2. City Monster Raids
I'd love to see some widespread warfare in regards to monsters. Let's say we're all chilling out in a big city, yah know? Getting parties together for quests and the like, and suddenly the Gate Guards begin yelling "WE ARE UNDER ATTACK! SOUND THE ALARM"
So you're thinking "lol, this is just like WoW. Prolly some noob wandered too close."
That's what you're thinking until you watch in horror as wave after wave of Undead minions begin pouring into the city!
It's time to take action to defend your home!
I just think massive warfare such as this is very entertaining, and provides a big incentive for the community to band together for the common good.
