Cant log in now
Ladybadone
I have a friend that lived in the UK. About 20 mins ago he lost con to the game and now all of a sudden can not log in. He gets this message:
guild wars was unable to connect to any login server. this is very likely caused by an internet routing issue
He can not log onto any GW related sites either.
He can log in to other games such as UO, its only GW
Anyone know what this might be.
Thanks

He can do everything but log into GW or GW related sites. Everything else works fine. ICQ ect, UO; everything but GW , He is getting code 058. He uses Virgin 20mb con and is in Dorset.
Hellblazer
Same goes for me! Im on 20Mb Virgin Broadband and i cant access Guildwars.com, the Official Guild Wiki (run by anet) or GW itself. Is it possible that they have taken things offline in preperation for the Bonus Mission Pack which is being released today?
ale_jrb
Add me to the list .
Ladybadone
Im in sweden and can log in. I think there must be something going on in the UK?
ale_jrb
That seems likely. =/
Yayo Goldigger
Yeah I'm getting it too, I'm also on Virgin 20mb :/ I can do anything else but log into GW or GW website...
Hyaon
Kind of..ironic it says if issues go on further, visit the official support page...

Getting the same here, for about the last 20-30 mins I havn't been able to log on with the message in the OP.
Virgin 4mb...

same. virgin 4mb, uk
error code 058 cannot connect to login server, most likely an internet routing issue

How do you trace route GW?
Rhiandra
Same here, my husband and I cannot log onto GW or any related sites but apart from that can access any other sites. Getting code 058 too. Thought perhaps it had something to do with the BMP but obviously not and has something to do with an incident in the UK
Rhia

Nebulaz
2MB Virgin BB Dorset also
Rhiandra
What I can't understand is if it was something to do with ISP how come it's only affecting GW??

Has anyone contacted Virgin? And if so what was their response? I would but I hate them with a passion....
Ladybadone
Well my friend says that they charge you 25C a min to call them? That really sux
dread pirate fargus
£1 a min here.... i aint calling that :S easier to swap ISP!
Rhiandra
I hate them too and refuse to phone their premium number. Usually when we've phoned them it's always the same, we have done the tests and believe that there is spyware on your machine blah blah blah....
Ladybadone
Hmm and you have to use them as your ISP.
Rhiandra
If I could get an ISP that offered the same speed that wasn't through a phone line, believe me I would...

Here's what to do.
Call the Virgin Medea general enquiries number. Go through the robot to 'changing address or thinking of leaving' Choose cancelling the service. Tell the bod who answers your problem, that only Virgin Media customers cannot connect and that they can connect there (they can oddly). bluff them that you want to cancel because of the dire situation with the premium rate line for BB support.
They will put you through to BB support free of charge (you'll still get the 25ppm bluff but not be charged it).
This is where your problems start. You'll get through to a script monkey who doesn't have a clue if it isn't in their script. They'll ask you about modem lights, ask you about connection. Once you explain the situation to them for the sixth time they'll claim that it is nothing to do with VM and it's all your fault, contact a tech support line that they skim some of the £1 pm from.
Press on and ask about scheduled maintainence that may have blocked IP's or ports, they'll explain that you have a dynamic ip that can't be blocked (even if you have a Static IP) and once again explain that you're not talking about your own IP.
In the end they'll swear blind it's not them. However if enough of you call them and let them know, they may start to realise (MAY) that there is a problem.
Still the best bet is the person in cancellations. They are allowed to use their heads, are totally customer service focused and can/will spot the issue if enough people go through them.
Good luck guys.

I'm in the process of switching to BT, because Virgin insist on charging me for the same bill 3 times a month, and I still don't get half of the 20mb that I'm paying for 3 times a month ><
Hyaon
Yeah Virgin have been pretty much bad for me...last I checked, they're the only provider available in my area...life's a pisser uh...think its been close to 2 hours now, feel like we're being ignored *sniff*
Rhiandra
Problem is not on the phone with them, only internet, so I still get charged whoever I phone!
Wouldn't switch to BT, we tried them at one time and it depends on the signal strength of your land line, couldn't even get 1mbs even though they said that we could get up to 8mbs. Cancelled it and they tried to charge us for 18 months of subscription the cheeky monkeys. Refused to pay it and countless arguments later they refunded the money back.... Hate BT too LOL

Update: VM second line support (based in the UK) are now aware of this issue and are trying to work out what the issue is.
If you want to let them know you are also having issues.
For people on VM phone - 150 then from the robot choose 3,2,2
For people not on VM phone call 0845 454 1111 then choose 3,2,2

Hmm I'm on virgin too and can't log in either, got booted about 1.30pm UK. Anyone recommend a decent tv,phone and isp company this has been dreadful since virgin took over.
Hyaon
Thank you Milan, glad someone has contacted them at least as I am un-able to ring them.

Same issue here. Annoying as it first happened while going into HA. Interestingly I can get on one account because I had characters in International districts but when I try to switch back to English it won't connect. I am also on Virgin Broadband although considering everything else is working fine e.g web pages and messaging programs it must be GW's servers itself.
Hengis
Hope this is resolved by the time I get home from work as I too am on Virgin Media 20meg at home.
I just checked the automated response line and it only mentions e-mail probelms, but the general status report of broadband services is "red" with several Priority 1 incidents logged, so it looks like they may well have some major problems.
If you want to report this yourself but dont want to pay the premium rate phone charge, report it by e-mail on the following form:
http://help2.virginmedia.com/help/ge..._services_bybb
Hope it gets fixed soon!

-.- I phoned them up before when my net went down. After ages of arguing with them they admitted it was their fault and gave me a refund on the phone call.
Had so much problems with VM though, want to change but what too? :O
