Sorry if this has been posted b4 but i did a search and nothing came up.

Ok the title's simple: What GW1 features do you wish in GW2 and likewise which ones you don't wanna even think about them in GW2.

Please keep the conversation civil and respect each other's opinion.

Please only post 3 features of each (3 wants, 3 don't wants)

So mine are:

WANTS:
  • Soloing possibility
  • Plot twists
  • Hard Mode
DON'T WANTS:
  • PvP ranks (they just cause elitism)
  • End-of-campaign Greens
  • Unusable (Nerfed) skills

Want:
- Paragons
- "8 skills - millions to choose from"-system
- Heroes
(I kinda wanted to put "Mesmers working in PvE" on that list but ....)

Don't want:
- Customization (I want second hand armours dammit!)
- Foes that are annoying because they cheat, rather then being well designed
- 3 max heroes - give me a full hero party!

Would you rather have it so there is no way to tell who the exp'ed players are and thus leading to the destruction, or damaging at the least, of serious PvP?

Elitism exists for a good reason.

The problem is (as always) that some ppl are under-civilized and don't give new/low ranked ppl a chance. All go with the "if ur not at least r3 you're shit, don't understand shit, and aren't worth my shitty time." Isn't that a shitty attitude?

EDIT: Pls however read the ENTIRE op and stay on topic.

Argh. The features I really would want probably aren't in GW1. But I'll try to keep the format.

WANTS:
  • Soloing - there are things people are not interested in playing with you for. No matter how multiplayer the RPG, soloing will always be desirable. I don't want to have to LFG for cartography for instance; very hard to find like-minded people at a given time.
  • Reduced emphasis on gear. I like gear, don't get me wrong, but other games can do that. Guild Wars promotes an egalitarian atmosphere for PvP (and for being useful in PvE) by not having such a dependence on that.
  • Interesting NPCs. Guild Wars hasn't always done well on this front, but it's always nice to have for instance some companions with character development and an interesting background/point of view than throwaway plot devices. Keep this up, make it better if you can.

DON'T WANTS:
  • The ceiling. In terms of PvE at least, I don't want my efforts into character development to come to an end. In Guild Wars, once you've got a level 20 character with full attribute points and a decent skill set, armor and weapons - which doesn't take long - there's nearly nothing more to be done. Maybe it's a bit of an obsession stemming from my days playing Diablo, but I'd like to be able to improve my character to the point that it becomes unbelievably powerful. If that means a level cap for PvP, so be it, but in PvE...
  • Hundreds of skills, most of which are useless. We don't really need that many, and it makes Guild Wars a strategy/CCG game rather than one that takes much real-time playing skill. To be honest, I think the latter is where the focus should be, although preferably not as lag-dependent as an FPS... trying to time interrupts is bad enough, thank you.
  • Arbitrary restrictions on how you complete goals (in quests, missions, and so on). Yes, I know there are feasibility limits, but still. Call me spoiled by games like Oblivion, but having missions with an objective but an open-ended method makes things more interesting, and opens the way for ingenuity and, dare I say it, MacGyver-esque gameplay. And that doesn't happen enough in games right now (save D&D) - Oblivion was merely testing the waters.

WANT:

-Longer, more immersive story lines (like Final Fantasy serie)
-Something to do, besides killkillkill. No, I'm not one of those RPG freaks who wanna fish and get married on a game. But crafting maybe? (something like DAoC, with less grind).
-More balanced PvP, not always dominated by a couple builds, until the nerf. And more USEFUL skills to use. Yes, we have hundreds of skill, but how many are utterly pointless?
-Something not instanced, but more massive and persistent. I don't want a completely persistent world, but maybe some pvp areas. (And they are gonna do that, I guess).
-Interesting dungeons.
-For the love of Jesus, keep a reasonable level cap. I seriously cannot understand what some people find SO exciting about grinding for 60/70/99 levels. DAoC had 50 levels and I never got a second character, because it was so utterly boring to exp. And if you put the cap at level 60, they ask for lev 70, then for 90, and so on. Seriously, like there isn't anything better to do in the game. And that would be the final blow to casual gamers.

DON'T WANT

-Reskins. Don't do anything at all if you cannot come with something new.
-Boring quests with no reward.
-NERFS. Stop red engine nerfing everything people are having fun with. You don't like bots? Find a red engine way to stop them and leave honest players alone.
-Random lucky ways to get instantly ultra-rich, like market resets, uber minipets, 1 in a million drops. Richness should be a reward for dedication, not sheer luck.
-Boring dungeons with zero replayability (see thread about dungeons).
-Neglected classes in PvE.
-AND STOP NERFING EVERYTHING.

Wants:
- If that limitless level cap, a max level where it makes changes to your character's stats, the rest being prestige (e.g., a Level 120 character maxed out stat-wise at Level 40).
- A story that is fun the second, third, fourth time through. I'm working on Prophecies my 4th time, and it's still fun. Can't say much about my 5th and 6th attempts at Factions and my 5th at Nightfall.
- Reliable means of getting gold without having to wait months just for that piece of 15k. If that means auction house to place my wares, sure. If that means a gold bonus for random adventuring (I liked killing everything in areas before Vanquishing even existed), sure. But reward the players who play the game instead of those who hit up the same spot again, and again, and again, most of them doing it because they have no choice if they want that 100k+ee weapon.

Don't Wants
- So many useless skills, so much nerfing. I'm hoping the emergent behavior of skills will fix this problem, with a smaller skillset that's versatile depending on context. Tweaking skills should be simpler.
- Boss queues. I've only heard of this problem from other MMOs like WoW, but standing in line just to kill a boss is close on the most retarded thing I've ever heard of. Makes me wish for a limit to persistence if it causes that.
- That "rushed" feeling. Strictly speaking, only Prophecies and Factions were released with all features available out of the box. Nightfall needed a live update for DoA a month after release. GW:EN needed a month for Hard Mode, and the entire thing reused stuff all over the place. Go Blizzard-style and release things when they're ready.

I don't mean that greens are bad in general, but in the beginning it was more prestigious to own one. It meant that you were able (unless bought) to kill a certain boss etc etc. I prefer gold weapons (see DoA, BMP) at the end.

I said what GW1 features you want in GW2 please so don't start popping them up from every other online MMO in existance, thanks

Wants:

--No Levels. A new character advancement system--nonlinear, optional, subtle, but with lots of depth. Titles/Ranks on steroids maybe.

--A massive persistent world, that opens and unlocks as the player advances through the game. All of the greater world also existing in multiple instanced layers, so players can enjoy very advanced instancing, while having a greater persistent world to share.

--Massive world PvP that exists as a layered instance over-top of the PvE persistent world. Players simply phase into the mists, becoming PvP spirits when view by PvE players. See ideas in GW2 suggestion thread.

Do Not Want:

--Single Skill bar. Multiple skill bars that are mutually exclusive from each other would be far more robust in a persistent world. See Norm Elite skills.

--Levels and the itemization nightmare that ensues, See HG:L

--Content that becomes obsolete because a player levels past it.

Want
+beneath the GW2 unique new races also some classical new playable races. like dwarfs, centaurs, sylphs, fairies, drows, elves...

+Level Cap be raised to 100 with a better balanced Leveling System which makes it not possible to be Max Level within 24hours...needed time of normal playing without farming and grindign to reach Level 100 schould take for example a Month ...thats enough

+Implement to the Battle System Combo Attacks, Group Attacks and Dual Weapon Wielding

+More Consumeables for different actions.. like different kinds of things for alchemy, crafting ect. ..let us do work..like mining, fishing, hunting ect. ..more such stuff, what you do in games like gothic 3

+Stats System beneath improved Attribute System...players should be able to get better in personal Stats like Strength, Vitality, Intelligence, Wisdom and so on..these Stats should tell about..how strong a Character is and those Stats should be resetable for free, like attributes in GW1, whenever you want...so can't it happen, that players will miss stat their characters and when they do..then they can simple reset the stats and redo ....

+better Armor System with more parts to equip and better Upgrade System, that is changeable, whenever you want, because Armors absorb the Essence of Upgrades...also things like Accessoires should be equipable

+1-Class System with RO similar Evolution Career System...no more ever such stupid wannabe classes like GW1's Paragon or totally miss concepted Dervish's. No more ever stronger hybrid secondaries, then primaries, because of totally unbalanced skill combinations

+10 Skills in Bar....lots of Skills to choose from

+A much better "Perfect World" similar Character Creator with lots of
possibilities of choosing different hairstyles, colors, eyes, noses, ears, skin color ect. pp

+A persistant World like in "perfect World" with epic quests, rewords, monsters (bosses), which is playable in both way..either in parties..or solo..once your character is strong enough for it to solo (this is balanced..when u want to have the advantage of solo adventuring, than u need to take the effort first to become strogn enough for it..so simple)

+better Dungeon System....getting differenced into "Group Dungeons" and "Solo Dungeons" ..Group Dungeons are the epic ones, where the monsters are so strogn and so populated...that you get through them only via a party, otherwise you would get very soon overwhelmed by the monsters (these become soloable, once you are strong enough) as long you are not strong enough..a NPC will force you to make a party of x persons to go further...

Solo Dungeons, which are marked from the start on as these..can be made only solo...these dungeons are especially filled with traps, riddles ect and will remember people very strong on dungeons similar to ZELDA Games

+implemented real good EGO perpective...hwich lets us see the world out of the eyes of our characters

+ implemented Target System....players have really to target their enemies to hit with their attacks...and you have to lead your shield self, when you want to block attacks (get inspired of the PS3 upcoming game White Knight Story, than you will understand, what I mean, when u look the trailers)

*the battle system should receive much more ACTION..become faster and should look much more like realtime....not so much as if toy's are fightign each other with ever repeating every 2 seconds same moves...more like Lineage 2...just look the CG trailers....when characters in GW2 would fight so dramaturgic, like its shown in LA2 trailers..these would be epic

+better Character Design..more like LA2...character design there is much cooler then anything of GW1 ever was

+Ingame Auction House and Personal Shops in an extra for this own Commerce Town

+Housing ..means enterable buildings like shops, hospitals, banks, order guilds, taverns/hotels, and other medieval buildings ..towns should reallly look like towns and not like only big villages ...the outposts in GW have all no live...you can't see, where all those peopls (npcs) live there..because there are no buildings...and npc's have no live in GW at all.. all they do is standign everat the same spots talking ever their same crap >.> how boring....
give npcs in GW2 a live (zelda majohras mask)...there in this game were npcs at different times ever at different spots and told you different things ....

+give GW2 and own ingame time (clock) and a good made day/night-system with differences in monster polulation naturally, which means that you find outside at day other monsters..as when you go out at night ...

+give monsters behaviors....not all creaturs must be ever aggressive ..there can also be friendly creatures out there..which become first agressive, when you attack them..like normal animals...more creatures.. which fight each other.. if you lure them into each other

+better travel system ...give us different mounts...improve the Asura gate System...let us warp via a coordinate system and magical Rune Stones similar like in Gothic 3 from place to place ,these stones are then consumeables..
When you do an epic quest or so..u get a dragon egg..if you hatch it...you can raise your own Dragon..with that you can fly from A to B...or you get rich enough..to buy you your own Ship...and as long ur are that not..you buy simle tickets for a ship trap..then you either skip the travel scene..or you can watch for some minutes..how your ship sails over the sea to your goal

+more continents to get an earth similar worth (6 continents required)

+some little racial differences..just looks is boring and senseless..but not such thigns..which will lead to professions, which are either only this race or that race

Don't want

- too much instanced stuff

- unendless Level Cap

- same Class/Attribute/Battle System like in GW1

- same dumb much too little Storage System

- Reskins of Weapons, Armors, Dungeons or anything else..everythign should look unique and have its own skin..so also NO Skin Clones

- useless skills..cause of douzens of similar skills, which are better

- customized armors...make armors buyable...this system in GW1 is so senseless

- no henchs/heroes..are just not needed..just become strong enough to solo ..or make a party with others ...

- balancing of skills for skills which are for 2 different game modes together...
so pvp should have own skill balancing and pve should have own skill balancing ...

- absolutely unbalanced enemies in pve with either too much enemy groups being too crowded...so that overaggroment is on such mapos liek normal ...
or enemies..which do such insane damage..that they nearly insta kill you with 1 hit....cheating "bugged" enemies..which can perma rez with skills..where we players have to kill bosses first to be able to rez again after usage ... or enemies..which have all attributes maxed and over the top (20) >.> while we can be happy to have only 1 at 16 ...

- never again a concepted game, where healers (monks) play such a big role...every profession should have their own ways of at least self healing and there should be potions as consumeables

thats it i think XD ..but we know all.. that some of the things listened here by me will get changed to it in GW2, like the increased level cap to at least lvl 100 or ...unendless lol what would be imo crap

Would like:
- PvP more mixed in the PvE story.
Meaning the results of a PvP battle influence the PvE part of the game, but in an other way as HA did. Perhaps integrated with next point.

- Dynamic story where content changes depending on achievements of total GW population. With maybe a 'past events' to replay.
Meaning people have the oppurtunity to support a side (bit like lux/kurz) for a short period of time and the result causes a change in the environment.
Take for example Glint bonus. Killing her does not influence the story.
Now imagine that more people decide to kill then to let live. Meaning no more Glint, no more titan quests. But, the titans will be swarming the continent and thus cause problems for the player.
Make those events tied to something people can talk about.
So that long-term players can tell about their experience to new players.
When a new player asks: wtf are those lvl 20 enemies doing in in this starter area, long-time players can point to the cause or show an item related to that event.

Please don't put in the game:
- Titles!
While the idea is good to keep people playing titles are in my not so humble opinion one of the reasons it's harder now to team up with other players.
Everyone is working on some title and you have to get lucky to find someone with the same goal (guild ftw).
Instead of titles make events that tie to the storyline, do cause changes in the story and give people something for that (see above)
Be there or don't be there. And as in real life, you can't be everywhere.

- Heroes (also tied to titles)
If you want to play solo buy an other game (sorry for the solo players out there). Heroes enable people to do the things they need/want in the game, but it has a huge price. Many people don't see it like this, but the most efficient team besides a full human team is 2 humans + heroes. Everything in between is less efficient because of the time it takes to get more humans in a team and because there is less synergy possible with a human player that does not act the same way as AI. Only in situations that require specific things that humans do better (positioning without flagging, running items) this is different.

Bottom line, make a ongoing story that evolves instead of creating new instances where people can do the same thing 1000 times.
I understand it's hard to do such a thing but it will probably attach people a lot more to the game. More than titles.

want:

- an auction house ffs

-skillsets where more than 30% of the skills per class are USEFUL. it would be infinitely more fun to just play than to spend most of the time screaming at "n00bs" about their build. I'm sure a few nazi jr.'s don't mind that level of having to boss people around to get anywhere but I never liked it, and most people play alone rather than put up with the too often tainted with frustration PUG experience.

-actual character customization options. you know, so I'm not staring at a clone of myself in LA even down to armor dye color. capes are cool but they don't remove the cloning problem.

-balanced content delivery plans from the start. GW1 was all over the place. From Sorrow's Furnace for free, to charging for the BMP... there's no consistency. I want to know what GW2 is selling, and it better not be GW3 in 2 years after it's out.

-a less skitzo achievement system. more items for high end rewards from the get go, you can't say you no longer know that people play your game constantly and want new stuff constantly. you know it for sure at this point, so don't give us a trickle of stuff to do again.]

-an aggro management system

-"for fun" RP touches... like LOTR has a music system... and where are the ale houses and whatnot... GW's atmosphere in a town consists of WTS WTS WTS

- utility slots for things like a one use rez.

- distancing Guild Wars from "grind" paths that are so commercial and obvious and just focusing on the fun and atmosphere like the ancient betas

don't want:

- it to be GW 1.5, a bunch of incremental updates and the same old issues

Wants:
  • Presistant world!
  • Balanced Classes to prevent the class discrimination
  • Being able to solo ordinary quests without henchmen
  • Unique looking bosses at end of the dungeons, not renamed bigger versions of already existing!
  • Every dungeon to be unigue, not copy/paste like in GWEN. With a background story.
  • Mesmer and/or Assassin like classes to be included.
  • Ability to reach the tallest towers and mountains and deepest pits, the whole feeling of exploring.
  • Buildings that can be entered. For example vendors not standing on the streets but have the shop of their own.
  • Reasonable lvl cap! Not too high please!
  • And last that you include more of what your art team makes, because in GW campaigns the best concepts are always left out!
  • Unique weapons (Greens) to be super rare and very good.
  • Ability for a party leader to kick party members and to organize the party more tacticly.

  • Swarm of RESKINS! Please ANet you have 2 years time, please oh please dont make copy/paste monsters and weapons with just changed names and color.
  • Class discrimination as a result of inbalance.
  • Dull world full of invisible borders and walls.
  • Level 100 or higher
  • Greens
  • Grinding
  • And last but very importaint: Often offers in game store that will allow people who pay for additional stuff to be somehow more superior than people who dont. For example: Clothing,Jewlery,Weapons,Auras etc.
    Leave that to HoM!

It's totally fruitless at this point, but what the hell. I'll keep it to 3 as the OP originally requested:

Want:

-A party dynamic for both large group and small group/solo play, which means heroes or something like them
-Instancing. Everywhere.
-Soloability of the entire game, preferrably with AI in most places to preserve the aforementioned party dynamic

Do not want:

-Unlimited levelling/endless power curve
-Any system where the rewards for solo play are vastly outweighed by the rewards for group play (like, for example, scaling monsters and thus drops to party size if there's no AI in the game)
-A skill system that requires no choices (ala WoW and its ilk)

Anet's already pretty much convinced me they're making the exact opposite game of the one I just described, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to write it down somewhere anyway.
