WANT:

* Solo play everything
* Level cap that can be reached in less than a week
* Pick-your-skills like we have now
* Something to do besides fighting
* Having a real house that can be furnished like in Ultima Online (ok not in GW now but I want it in GW2)
* Wear whatever you want, change stats to whatever you like

DONT WANT

* (gold/grind-based) Titles
* PVP ganking the moment you leave town, or any PVP outside of arenas for that matter
* PVP giving stuff that's unobtainable through PVE
* Recycled dungeons like EOTN
* Cheating enemies with some super ability
* Cheating super ability PVE skills
* LOOT SCALING
* Sylvari with TITS, treepeople do not have tits because they do not give milk to their infants, the infants grow from trees eh! /facepalm

Wants
More PUG quest like "Across the Wall"

Playable Tengu (utilizing the Y axis for limited flight skills)

Titles that effect the gameplay.

Do Not Want

Heroes (takes away the whole point of MMORPHs, and kills PUGs)

Lame movie culture references that have nothing to do with fantasy. (Quotes from Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy)

Customized items. (I want to be able to sell my armor if I need gold quickly, I also want to be able to exchange weapons, items and armor among my other characters.)

Want: A world wide message system for finding parties interested in doing whatever I am working on when I log on, ie I can post LFG mission X and get peoples attention across the world rather than just one city.

Don't Want: 100 000 guilds with 3 active people in them.

Wants : -Dye system and char customisation in general
-Some PuG love... Meaning, no more heroes. However a party-sized scaling difficulty would be nice for non-primary quests.
-A server/channel for roleplaying. At the moment, the only way to roleplay is to go in a RP guild.
-Division between PvE and PvP, without the grind-based skills in PvE. Why can't they be linked to attributes ?
-Balanced skills so that you don't have to play TEH ULTIMATE BUILD to be efficient.

Do not want :
-Any grinding which makes you superior to other players. Titles are fine, if you want to show you're l33t that's your choice, but don't penalize others for it.
-High lvl cap which has an other effect than show you've played for a long time. I mean that there would be a low lvl cap where you still win attribute points, and the rest are only for looks.
-Racial bonuses. They always make a game imbalanced.

Wants:
- Enemies to have a line of sight instead of the "aggro zone", making it possible to hide behind walls.
- Huge bosses, epic as the ones from "Devil May Cry" games.
- More co-operative aspects, like the Across the Wall quest that required a player to open the gate.

Don't Wants:
- Customisation
- Poor cutscenes (although since NF they've been getting a lot better)
- Players who draw a wang on the mini-map.

Why do people seem to think higher levels will change anything?

The balance still has to be the same, if you have 10x the health enemes will deal 10x the dmg. All it changes is the ammount of time it takes to get to max level.

Wanted:
More focus on Solo Play ... i hate PUG's
With the above - Hero's and lots of em
Fully customizable Hero's - Armor
Guild common storage
More storage for char
One poster mentioned a house ... kinda cool to have a home spot if you dont want to join a guild
a solid market place for selling items

Mind you, id like to see this in GW, not just GW2, as it will be some time b4 i stop playing it

DONT Want:
PUG's - im too old to hang out with 10yr olds ... ty anyway
Customized armor
Random Rewards - Rewards should be for effort and skill, not luck
Grind - gets old fast
along with grind - leave out items that only the very wealthy and people with no life can obtain ie; destroyer gauntlets .. cmon 250 DC? Really? so i have to invest 40 hours of grind to obtain a set or purchase someone elses grind items? UGH
Make items like this a reward for an exceptionally hard area or end game instead of useless greens.

As an aside ... all you folks who want MORE PUG's can forget it ... if ANet leans in that direction, they will lose half their client base and they know it, so it isnt going to happen.
There are LOTS of folks like myself who dislike playing the game with children. We usually come online to get AWAY from our children, not hang out with someone elses!
With that in mind, there WILL be hero's or the game WILLbe Soloable .. so if its going to be there anyway, why not make it better?
Keep Group play to PVP and leave it out of PVE.

Unlimited Stat Loot Items & Equipment and Loot Scaling so those that put in more TIME get the best stuff.
End of game Green Specialty Items that move around on bosses that drop them. These will be the best items in the game and only a special few will get/have them (like me)
Player crafting that can make near best items so the nubs and noobs can have some decent items though never the best

Don't Want:
Emotes allowed everywhere
Not to have a KICK button so idiots nubs and noobs can be kicked
Not to have a notifier of who is drawing penises on the mini map so we can use the KICK button to kick them.

Quote:
Why do people seem to think higher levels will change anything?
Because it DOES change things. It changes your level for one thing and levels show experience and TIME played. It also gives an unlimited goal of doing more to get more "change in experience" and show more TIME put into playing THAT particular character over another. Notice I said "experience" instead of SKILL. As some can be better skilled at playing their character in a lesser time span, but, SKILL isn't EVERYTHING in the world so neither should it be in a fantasy world either. You can't be president unless you are age 35 or more. Same principle can and should be used in a game. It should take TIME before you are recognized as an experienced player/person. Who would want a 13 year old as President? hahahaha And Anet is recognizing that LEVELS ARE IMPORTANT and that's why they are going to be UNLIMITED or very HIGH in GW2, so, might just as well get used to it. Your LEVEL is going to become a very important part of your POWER in GW2. If they took a lesson from LDON of Everquest I know EXACTLY how HIGHER levels are going to work in intanced missions/quests and I'm gonna like that a lot.

I suppose its all about if your after a game of time>skill or not.

I most deffinately am not after such a game, hence the reason I purchased GW when it was advertised as skill>time. I can only hope they carry it on to GW2.

There are already plenty of MMO's out there that go down the time>skill route and allow mass grind to increase power, its nice to have an alternative.

QFT...
However, let's face the truth... Anet is a company, they have to make money, and to achieve this they have to sell to more people. What do people buy ? MMO's. Most fans of the game will buy GW2 no matter what, so they don't have to worry about them.

Sigh... GW was so unique, yet awesome. :/
There are a lot of good MMO's for people who like grind, and solo RPGs for those who like solo games which usually have better graphics and are far more immersive and customisable. Dunno why people who like these kind of game turned to GW...

WANTS:

-8 skill bar

-Full party of hero's (As a side-note here, I like the idea of hero's. I HATE PUG groups, and it's nice to be able to get through sections of the game without having to wait for someone to be online or spend half an hour in the town shouting 'LFP') as the henchies suck, and being able to customize hero's skills + equips was an awesome idea

-Better cutscene voiceovers (if you're going to put a voiceover in an MMO, make sure it's a good one. Though I have to say, the spanish dub does an awesome job of differentiating the races XD)

-More dynamic world as far as interaction goes (ladders, interior of buildings etc) but NOT at the cost of graphics a'la WoW

-A Collectors Edition!! Reward those of us that will be there from the start like you did with DA

DON'T WANT

-Anything like WoW. Elitism should be a bannable offence in all MMO's. Big whoop, you have no friends, no job and no social life thus you have everything in the entire game maxxed out. Some of us have a life outside of the game. Not many, but some... ¬.¬

-PvP & PvE links. If I don't want to play it, I don't want to play it. Don't try and tease me with links.

-Bots or Gold Sellers. Try and find a way to get rid of these people altogether. They ruin the economy of the game.

obviously not robot body parts and stuff like that but how about change body proportions to help make a more varied character. maybe pointy ears or facial hair and facial features.

being able to change appearance later after character creation would be cool too. if they want they could limit it to hair style and/or color changes. same with beards.
Actually, ANet has nothing to do with CoH/CoV, apart from that they both have NCSoft as a publisher. That said, NCSoft may be willing to let ANet use the engine to do that, but ANet is just Guild Wars - anything else under the NCSoft banner was made by a different development team.

Starting by obeying the original poster's instructions:

Want:
* Mesmers. Preferably ones that don't suffer from 'anything I can do, someone else can do better' syndrome.
* The ability to experiment with builds, rather than being 'locked in'.
* Primary/secondary profession system. (Or some other system that allows you to mix professions.)

Don't Want:
* Grind for mechanical benefit. ESPECIALLY grind that mandates you grind in a specific manner (ie reputation titles) rather than allowing you to choose what to do.
* Inventory-stuffers. If the quest item is just there to track quest progress, it can be tracked in the quest log rather than taking up valuable inventory space.
* Generic skills overshadowing profession (Ursan, I'm looking at YOU... but it isn't the only culprit). Generic skills may serve to add spice, but the main point to your presence should be to be your profession, not a Pain Inverter or Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support spammer. (Unless, of course, the equivalents of those skills are tied to a profession.)

Now, to break the rules and give my complete lists:

Want:
* Playable Forgotten.
* Mix of solo and team play. Some solo play is good for when you're in an awkward timezone (ie Australia...) or just don't want to deal with people - however, if all areas are soloable, that could make them too much of a pushover in team play.
* Multiple ways to achieve objectives (this includes character objectives - for instance, hitting an elite zone with a group may be the best way to get item X, but there should be a way for solo players to get it too)
* Instancing where appropriate.
* Some kind of trading system that doesn't require standing around in a town shouting.
* A guild storage system. Even had an item that you didn't use yourself, but figure a guildie may be able to use it? This could be tied to the above as a means of offering preferential prices to your guild members.
* More human, balanced AI... when appropriate. Animals are allowed to have only animal intelligence
* More intuitive interaction with environment - no more having to guess (or memorise...) which paths are actually possible.
* More realistic towns/cities. Some just seem to be a marketplace and government buildings without any actual housing (Kamadan, Lion's Arch)
* Designated PvEvP zones - let's give the Ascalonians a chance to recapture Ascalon, and the Charr the chance to stop them!

Don't Want:
* Pandering to the We're Too Cheap For WoW crowd.
* Reliance on 133t uber gear.
* Mob queues.
* Races pigeonholed into profession, or vice versa - if a given profession is available to a race, it should be as good at that profession as any other race. If a profession is really that inappropriate for a particular race, go the whole way disallow it entirely, at least as a primary.
* Unlimited vertical reach. Melee mobs being able to hit you from thirty feet down is silly... especially when you can't hit them back with ranged weapons because they count as being blocked.
* More intuitive means of determining when ranged attacks are blocked. It's so aggravating when you have a clear line to a target and it keeps coming up with the obstructed message... or when you take cover and see their shots flying straight through the cover.

WANTS:
  • Better plot twists (not the usual boring stuff)
  • Variable story (depending on the player's decisions)
  • NO Hard Mode (HM is just an excuse for the lack of intelligent new ideas to enhance the story/game;
    it also supports the stupid titlemania)

  • Soloing possibility
  • Jumping, climbing, swimming, riding (everything that enhanced PvE gaming fun)
  • Quests and story elements that require brain instead of muscle

DON'T WANTS:
  • Skill nerfs because of PvP
  • Pixel hunting for titles (although you thought you had been extremely thorough and should have reached the 100% by now)
  • Show-off titles (which are a pain in the a**, because you don't find as many players to play the actual game with;
    everyone is in complete "titlemania" which is just childish)
  • Favoring players with few characters like in GW1 (people who play many characters with equal dedication just don't have the time for "achievements" like maxing non story-based titles or filling each Hall of Monuments to the max)
  • Abolishing the 8 skills at a time concept
  • Abolishing the secondary profession concept

Me/Mo

As usual I have read through the entire thread (I read all of the 100+ pages of "Guild Wars Reborn"...) and it's nice to see a variation of opinions. A lot of people have had some great ideas, and infact a few posts have made me question the way I play Guild Wars right now. And to the OP, please don't force people to limit their responses, I don't think I can sum up my GW2 expectations in 6 brief points.

Things I want:
Things I want to stay the same:
Artistic Influence: I think everyone here can agree that Guild Wars has an amazing art team. The concept art is stunning, and I am, admittedly, a graphics addict. I don't want the graphics to be the same, god no. Atm GW graphics, though great, have many problems, like clipping. Imagine: you've just saved up 1000k and got Obsidian. As you don your armour and move around... a giant black square appears on your butt. /sigh indeed. What I want to stay the same is Arenanet's devotion to beautiful and artistic game-play.

Skill Complexity: I was horrified to read that Arenanet wants to "dumb-down" skills, just so they can compensate on them changing for your surroundings, ect. I enjoy using skills that require skill and practice (Psychic Distraction, for example) and maybe even luck. The variation of skills is nice too, I don't want to have to use the same one spell in every battle to win it.

Prophecies' Style Storyline: For me, Prophecies was the best campaign. Many people here have cited how bland and "Bus Journey-like" the campaigns can be. Prophecies had the perfect pace, not stupidly fast like Factions, where you go from lvl 15 content to lvl 20 in about 15 mins. Please, keep the storyline imaginative, and detailed.

Thing I want to change:
The Levelling System: Ok, I do like the low level cap. When talking about GW, you virtually never hear the words "What lvl are you?". In my ideal fantasy game, levels do not exist. I'd like to see a different system introduced, such as FFX's Sphere Grid, where there are no set levels. This would be beneficial because then there would be no clear difference in strength, and therefore less material for elitists to use to bully players.

However, because in almost every aspect of GW, everyone is the same level, people strive to become better in other ways, such as armour or titles. As much as I do like this, people use this as an excuse to glorify themselves over other players, i.e. Elitism.

Party Sizes: Imagine: you walk into a beautiful glade. As the sun glimmers through the trees, your hair glides with the wind. As this point, 11 other samey looking people crowd around you. Guild Wars alert! What I adored about playing GW for the first time was the small party size. In Ascalon, your character mattered. It wasn't a tiny 8th of a group, and in a small party you knew all your members at least as an acquaintance. This goes with my other change: Please let me play on my own / with a friend or two without heroes or henchmen. Not only does this allow each character to be more noticed and important, but removes the problem which people have complained (acceptably) about, bad AI. Please, Arenanet, please, let GW be scaled in some way.

Trade Function: Trading in GW is, quite frankly, appalling. It took Arenanet 2 years to implement a crude party search function, but nothing could replace the tsunami of wts wts wts. I'm not sure if an auction house would work, but there has to be some way of allowing the whole GW community to know what's on the market without being short-changed. The act of trading items is pretty good actually, but it is a tool wasted on the limited party search function.

Character Creation: Many people here have cited that they hate loading into a town only to see a dozen other people that look almost identical, and I most certainly agree. I would like to have a very detailed and intricate character creation screen. Though it has been said that this would turn GW into Sims, is that really a bad thing? This is an RPG, after all. We want to play roles, we want to be able to forge any character that comes to mind, perfectly. Or at least I do. Regardless, the currently somewhat bland character creation screen could do with vamping up. What about a Bio? Or age/religion/martial status/Family? Ok as I say this I know it's too much, this could do with a debate of its own.

Things I would like to see introduced:
In-Game E-mail System: Imagine: You have made a new friend, and you want to thank them for joining you in doing a dungeon, but they are offline. Hm... Guild Status changing ftl, anyone? I would really like to see a way to message friends while they are offline, like a GW E-Mail account. With perhaps your character's name and their avatar in every message. Of course, like normal chat, these would have to be monitored (thinking about the safety of having to implement an in-game system here) but I'd really love it. The friends system is very limited.

Things I don't want:
Heroes: Banish them. Please. To some dark pit of Elitism. If Arenanet (please!) scales areas so that AI is not necessary, Heroes and their ilk will no longer be needed. I hate heroes because they are excuses for people to ignore players just because they "want to win". I can sort of understand this, but I hate being replaced by AI because someone hasn't seen my build on wiki.

Titles: Titles, not only incredibly boring and difficult, are fuel for the elitist flame: "Be this or be noob". I am a believer in skill>time, and titles rarely reflect this. I also really don't like looking at other people's titles, as it creates peer pressure: "that person has a higher rank title than me... are they going to call me a noob?" I get enough discrimination in rl, I don't expect to have to put up with low life elitists doing it in a game to sate their own egos.

Mandatory Grind: Someone here said something very truthful: "I want GW before Nightfall, I don't want GW after Nightfall." Arenanet, I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Grinding. Is. Not. Fun. Ever. Remember the Sunspear grind? I had to do this once: "Gain 25000 Sunspear points to continue the game." This isn't my idea of fun. It's also my main concern with raising the level. As long as I don't have to repeat content / actions again and again, i.e. grind my way there I'll be satisfied.

Sorry if it's a bit of a lecture, but I had a few things to say. Arenanet, /beg, please make a game that stays with the original concept of Guild Wars, where grind does not dictate skill, and that both the casual and the hard-core gamer can enjoy. At the same time, make GW2 a game where all players enjoy being part of the community: never being harassed by elitists. Guild Wars is a good game, with quite a few flaws, might I add, but it's good enough to withstand my excitement at GW2. I have high expectations.

EDITED: Just remembered something else ^_^.

  • Pixel hunting for titles (although you thought you had been extremely thorough and should have reached the 100% by now)
  • Show-off titles (which are a pain in the a**, because you don't find as many players to play the actual game with;
    everyone is in complete "titlemania" which is just childish)
  • Favoring players with few characters like in GW1 (people who play many characters with equal dedication just don't have the time for "achievements" like maxing non story-based titles or filling each Hall of Monuments to the max)
  • Abolishing the 8 skills at a time concept
  • Abolishing the secondary profession concept
I find it astonishing that I agree with everything you just said!

Wants:

-Identical characters. Make new faces, make new styles and such, but keep the design the same, and keep all the old options available. You did good with aesthetics in the first game, I can't think of them being any better.

-Re-customizable characters after character creation. I understand making us keep the face and such, but hair style and color should be changeable.

-All old professions. Yes, I know some people think X profession is overpowered or useless, but I want you to let us keep all the old professions. You can completely redo the skills, but stick with the basics. We like our old characters, we want them to exist in GW2, too.

Do not wants:

-Grind. Be it for loot, XP, or anything else, it's boring as all RED ENGINE GOheRED ENGINE GOll and wastes time.

-Racial bonuses for professions. Giving someone bonus energy or health or armor or something is fine, even giving them special abilities is fine, but don't make it so that a race is better at something than any other. Maybe I'm just a racist, but I wouldn't mind seeing all the races except Sylvari and Humans flayed alive and stuck on a long-assed line of pikes all throughout Tyria. I want to base my characters on what I want to, not what I have to because of racial benefits. This is not D&D or the Elder Scrolls, don't make it be.

-Non-instanced areas. Yeah, I know, you've already announced that there will be, but I still think it takes away from the game. You don't feel like a hero when there are 30 other people killing the same monster in front of you. I like to play solo, and I can't do that in shared areas. At least give us the option of playing in instances all the time. I understand some people enjoy playing with others like that, so good for them, but you should let those of us who liked the old way GW worked to play that way.

The only thing I'd add to that are activities that are not linked to combat. Go ahead, flame me and say this isn't how it's supposed to be, and don't clone other games, but GW2 should not be a clone of it's previous game in my opinion. Non combat activites are great ways to keep the grinders occupied without the use of titles that would just induce more E-peen, and it provides a much needed variety from /Exitportal&kill gameplay.

Guild Wars is a basis for Guild Wars 2. It should not be the blueprint, IMO.

Many people here don't stick with the original intention of the OP. This is not about all the possible stuff you (don't) want in GW2, but about GW1 features, an whether you want 'em in GW2 or not.

Wants:
- Mursaat! (Even better, Mursaat as a playable race)
- Mesmers - *The* original Guild Wars class
- Actually all of the six core classes
- Variable Dual Classing
- The same game art department, which is pretty much the best in gaming history

Don't Wants:
- Norn and Asura (Even worse, Norn and Asura as playable races)
- Instanced "e-sports" type of PvP
- Overpowered Monks (never seen a healer class half as powerful and with such an impact on PvP in *any* MMO)
- No more solo-farmin builds like the 55 crap and every fad that came after it

Actually there's a lot more of GW1 features I'd really like to have in GW2, most of them far too trivial to be mentioned.

Wants:
Better PvP support in all current pvp games(aka balance. skill choice etc.)
Keeping Heroes and Henchmen(AI > people in PvE. AI doesn't ask questions or complain)
More challenging PvE that is harder to solo farm

Don't Want:
removing the level cap
PvE Only skills
WoW-like Battlefields
Grind

I'm not really looking forward to GW2, it doesn't sound like "Guild Wars" from any of the the interviews(its seems more like WoW). If the game detracts too far from its roots, I'll probably pass on it.
