I guess the fact that this request comes up at every wintersday event and most other events mean that Anet knows how to throw an event.
It gets rather tedious to see the threads every event tho.
Sadly i have to say i have not participated in any of the event activities this year, not because of the lack of time but because of the lack of interest.
I don't even know if they added new quests etc, but i was to lazy to even find out, which i bet i will be regretting in a month or two when everything have been like it always have for a while...

I wasnt there to hear her discuss it but that could mean many things but it was on wiki and on official wiki up to the last day that it was a rumour until the one guru thread where Gaile did come in and confim that yes polar bears did exsist and then she also added that they where there the full 12 days.

Point 1. Who really cares if the team knew or didn't know of the existence of the polar bear?
Point 2. Yup. You're right, if you can actually win HoH, then you have a chance all year round to get a ghostly hero, but considering the amount of low and no ranked players that complain about not getting into a high ranked group, then your odds are about the same as getting the polar bear were/are. There are other minis that are limited in number and could only have been obtained once. Just not to the point of the polar bear.
Point 3. I followed the mini polar bear thread until closed. After witchblade asked about it, Gaile confirmed it. Why must Gaile confirm something before it happens? Surprises are nice.

Um yes that minipet was awarded while the festivities. You try and get one right now. You can't because it was only available while the festival and you needed to complete a festival quest to have a chance to get it. Thus its a festival item. If you can't get it outside of the festival itself that means it is part of that festival.

Btw if ya going to quote a line and say I said something dont just quote the part that will help yourself but the whole line because at that end of that line it stated a quest that was part of wintersday.

tell me where in here does it say the chest is even part of the reward for the quest?
The chest spawns like any other dungeon chest spawns. upon completion of the quest for that dungeon. It is not part of the quest itself, but a reward for finishing the dungeon.

The Dev's wanted it to be a surprise, great, they got that. it was a GREAT surprise, but once the suprise was found, what was the point of denying it? Why not say then FIVE days BEFORE the end of the event that it was true.

I LOVED GW, I loved the play, I loved the graphics, and was appreciative of the events. Then came the nerfs, you know the ones in favor of PvP to hell with PvE. Then came EoTN and I got screwed on that too, after days of fighting with tech support over my video card that was supported by CORE installments of GW was now not supported by a EXPANSION pack.
I'm tired of being RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOed over by ncsoft and ANET. So yes I am going to tell you were I find flawed logic and favortism.
Again I tell you I could care less if I own a polar bear, find a polar bear or sell a polar bear. I think it was unfair to deny the exsistence of the bear once it was discovered.
You can't see the logic there, then thats your problem.
I know what I write here makes no diff to game development, I know that it wont change what I would like to see changed. But I belive in speaking up. So there you have it.

That miniature only is available from a wintersday chest which is so called and linked above. Now if this was not a wintersday item why is it only available from a chest that is only available from a quest that is only available from a npc that is only available while wintersday?
Also the wintersday chest is part of that wintersday quest reward and if you look at what items are droping from it they are also all wintersday item such as eggnogs, spiked eggnogs and different types of candy canes. So that adds an other question if this is not a festival item why is the polar bear dropping from a chest that is dropping festival items?
"The Wintersday Chest spawns on completion of The Strength of Snow and Straight to the Heart, these quests were available during Wintersday 2007."
So lets see.
You can only get a polar bear while this festival from a chest that drops other festival items and can only be obtained from a quest while wintersday.
yep that confirms it polar bear is a festival item.

If you are going to complain about it:
a. stop playing GW till you feel you have cooled off or think everything is "ok" now.
b. send a letter/email to ANet complaing. (even though nothing will really happen)
c. stop palying GW forever so you don't have to stress out about something as stupid as "quests getting taken away 2 days later than they really should have".
for option C, the thing is, the quests were left 2 days after they should have been removed. You were priviledged enough to have 2 extra days. So be greatful that you had this opportunity, or don't participate at all.
All of you that are complaining about the mini-polar bear, you lived before it was out, you can live after it was out without having one.
In the end, stop being a bunch of babies, clean your diapers and grow up. Complaining non-stop like this just bugs people, lowers your respect from other people, and gets you NO-WHERE.

i farmed it for hours upon hours upon hours, from 10:30 am of the last day(acctually second to last day if any 1 timed it), all the way til wintersday finished(8:00am the next morning(australia time). before i could even keep the program still running you took the rifts, now alls i want is a further chance to farm this damn Mini, even if you have it in the chest at "Secret Lair of the Snowmen" Dungeon in Eye of the North, i feel a little cheated i farmed it straight for so many hours and got nothing but the same drops over and over and over, i bought over 300 presents from gift giver, when you have "you have neen playing 1 day please take a break" on your screen and realise you have no mini you start to get aggetated then when Winters day finishes on you and the quest are gone but you still have no mini, you think wow, i know its a rare drop, but that was rediculous to farm for so long, i thought and was hoping it would of dropped before wintersday. GG A-Net!!!!!!!!!

1) Arenanet is a company that listens to what the customers have to say. This has benefited them by creating a hardcore fan base. Combine this with the fact that the some of the customers might be immature and regard the company as being willing to do exactly as they say. The result is inevitable conflicts, a PR minefield since the forum has key influencers.
2) We now exist in a gaming environment where the existence of the Wiki and the Forum means that few things are ever a surprise anymore. Yearning for predictability comes naturally to the majority of people. Which leads to complaints that information was not available. Where else in life can you look up an instruction manual that will always be accurate and constantly updated?
3) The Polar Bear is the winning lottery ticket. It is rarer than people who have maxed all their Title tracks. I will not even be surprised if it is a one-off, since it comes with its own special Title. Most of us did not win the lottery. Witchblade did. Same with every lottery, there is disappointment and jealousy. Go rage at your lottery company for your 10 million dollar jackpot that got away.

There have been many nerfs I hated. I moved on. To me it's not a matter of voicing an opinion but how the opinions are voiced.

I think if they were gonna make it uber rare they could've added a hint "The elusive new minipet" or something in the announcement. The first time Gaile said it was fake or she doesn't know anything about it, she should've, I dunno, checked with the devs instead of having to see so many screenies of Witch's bear before she decided to give them a call?
And well another difference between this and the Ghostly is that well.. to get those two you'd be doing things that matter. Unfortunately quite a few people aren't all that interested in the Wintersday quests, but lots of people want to win Heroes Ascent, etc. The ghostly is sort of a bonus, because the normal rewards for HA are better than the rewards for Wintersday. Unless someone was specifically farming that Wintersday quest for CCs and such (which you can get elsewhere, obviously) you would have to be very lucky to get it on your few runs.
For many, the polar bear might be the only incentive to do the quests - if I wanted a mini ghostly but had no idea it existed as a reward in HA, I wouldn't know to go to HA to try and get it, and the only chance of me getting it without buying would be if I was a PvPer in HA in the first place. Same applies to the bear, I think. :\
