GW PLEASE take my money..
GW GF
So, I'm not sure where to post this, but I want to make a suggestion.
Why doesn't GW sell Plat? OK I know I am going to get totally made fun of for this, but I want to hear real reasons and not insults. I have a full time job. I make lots of money but have little time. Why can't I just go to GW, give them 20 buck and get 100k? This would be good for me because I don't have time to farm, but I like to play.
GW would make more money from me and I would enjoy the game more. Is it a crime to only want to play a couple of hours a night? Do I deserve to have crappy armor and weapons because I don't have the time to farm? Wouldn't GW be better off if they let players just buy plat? They would make more money.. Those that don't have the cash, but do have the time could farm to get the money.
I guess I just don't get it... why aren't they taking advantage of an opportunity to make money. Not everyone who likes to play has the time or interest in sitting around for hours to make virtual money.

wow.... I really dont know how to respond to this. Maybe they dont do it because its against their own rules?
FoxBat
Yes but other companies don't make such rules and do sell currency, so it's a valid question.
Although alot of american players tend to get teed' off about those with wasteable income buying what they "should" earn for themselves. You don't have the time, you aren't entitled to the loot.

I know that they are very concerned about third parties selling gold, but if they sold their own gold it would get rid of the issue entirely.. put the other guys out of business and then all the $$ would go to arena net.
RedStar
Well, maybe it will be too hard to know if this person bought from eBay or their shop lol.
And isn't it against their rules ? (not sure) xD.

GW GF
Yes.. I see your point but if they sold plat then they would know exactly who bought from them and could easily ban others that were trading large amounts of plat. (like they do now)
They would just make a lot more money.. people buy it anyhow.. why not buy from arenanet and then 1) they make more money and 2) We enjoy the game more w/o worry of being banned

They should sell in-game gold from the in-game store.
That way they wont sell from third-party sites, and if they did it'd be easily dectectable.

1. Yeah, it probably is against their own conduct rules because it would mutilate the game's economy even more.
2. Crappy armor? Um, last I checked 1.5k armor and 15k/obby armors were the SAME in stats, and therefore you are at no disadvantage play-wise.
3. Anet actually values people playing the game and earning what they have, as opposed to having someone just run your character through prophecies or powerlevel you or anything. They do of course believe in Skill>time ; but be realistic, you cant just have someone else do it for you :P

Because it would drive off far more customers than it would attract by rendering in-game accomplishment completely meaningless. What's the point of an RPG where you can have anything you want without actually playing the game?
shostopper
if you have trouble getting materials for armor then join a helpfull guild and they may have some spare materials that they could let you have or even help you get better armor and weapons in no time
slowerpoke
real gold for money? that would devalue ingame gold and break the economy
gold would become so common, it would be worthless, everything ingame would cost 250ectos++
those who could buy gold would, those who cant would be unable to trade with other players/buy anything
gold is earned not bought, L2playfarmtrade

Why do you need instant gratification? I realize that there are people who cannot spend a whole lot of time playing the game, but perhaps if there's something you would really like to have, figure out how to obtain it and then when you do play, slowly work towards your goal. I didn't get my first set of FoW armor because I made all of the money and ecto and shards overnight, it took me nearly 9 months to save up for it and that was with the help of friends giving me their drops occasionally. I have to say, it's a lot more gratifying, at least in my opinion, to work for what I want instead of having it handed to me.

1: They make the rules, if they want to change the rules, they can
2: This isn't just about armor. This is also about the ability to buy runes, weapons, pets, skills, etc..
3: If they value people earning what they have, why haven't they banned power leveling or running?

A lot of people don't have the money to spend on in game money. I think a lot of players would be driven away from the game simply because they can't or won't pay real money for in game gold, and therefore are at a disadvantage.
Also, Anet would be constantly generating large sums of money. This would drive the prices of items way up, which would cause numerous problems. Not only would those who don't buy gold have no time to play, since they'd be spending their entire time farming to afford a vial of silver dye, but it would mean all those who do buy gold would start complaining, because they would be forced to buy more and more gold just to keep up with inflation. The only way to rectify this would be for Anet to set specific prices for every single item in the game.
Finally, as far as I know, you don't have to be wealthy to enjoy the game. I have only farmed a handful of times since I started playing two years ago, and I can honestly say my enjoyment of the game has not dropped because of that fact. If anything, it's improved, since I don't exactly enjoy the repetitiveness that farming involves.

I agree - if ANet did sell game gold it would make sense and make quite a few players happy, but it is a little pointless.
GW is a game mainly focused around player skill. Equipment with max stats is commonly available at rock bottom prices (or for free, if you take advantage of collector NPCs or greens dropped by bosses). You do not need huge amounts of game gold to be able to get a character geared up for maximum combat efficiency.
The game does offer more prestigious equipment at higher prices, but these are functionally identical to their cheap counterparts. They are not necessary to be able to play the game well, and the only benefits they offer is more e-peen for the people who buy them. Moreover, anybody with a strong work ethic will tell you that if you want something special, you will have to work for it.
Furthermore, gold is easy to make in this game in my experience. I don't farm (I find farming to be rather boring) and I still find it easy to make a profit of around 10-15k per day just by questing and selling off any loot that I happen to find. If I were to play for only a couple of hours per night I would still be making at least 5k per session that way.
It might take time to save up for the flashy equipment that you really want, but there's a huge feeling of self satisfaction knowing that you've saved for it yourself - and until you've saved for it, the cheap stuff will offer you exactly the same benefits in combat.

I'd be for this, since gold doesn't give you a combatant advantage, it might bring in more profit since GW doesn't benefit from people farming all the time, and material possessions aren't the goal of GW anyway.
Actually be a step back from the generic MMO PvE that seems to be developing in GW. People thinking that farming longer gives, or should give them better stuff is ridiculous. If you've played longer, your advantage is you're a better player.

I have concerns about the economy as well, but if you price the gold high enough, people will make a choice...do I want to spend $100 on 8 plat for that Elite monk tome/Gren Scythe or do I want to take 4 hours (4 days for me as I can only play an hour a day at most) to try and earn the money.
This game rewards people who have an excessive amount of time. Let's make it even and reward people who have an excess amount of money as well.

Consider for a second that what you find fun is not what everybody considers fun. Also, consider what Meataxe said. Not everybody is capable of buying gold. That means they're either left with working toward getting the items they want or not getting them. Then that means that that person is not being allowed to have fun how they think the game would be fun.
Hey, how about we just add a bank to the game that gives you as much money as you want for nothing in return. That way everybody can have everything they want without having to work for it. Or not.
And for the record, you hardly have to farm to make a decent amount of money. Playing through EotN on my Paragon, I made almost 22k from picking up all drops. Learn when to merchant an item or sell it to a real person. Learn when it would be more beneficial to sell a rune to the rune trader, or keep it intact with the armor and sell it to the merchant. Learn when it is more beneficial to sell materials to the material trader or the merchant. Then save your money.

To all the people who say it goes against Anet's Code of Conduct: they can change their own rules whenever they want without any notice. It's fully in their right. Therefore it's not a valid point.
You don't need too much money to get the bare basics such as runes, weapons, armor, etc. Unless you're going for Tormented Shields, Crystalline swords and Obsidian Armor. Plus it's easy to make a decent amount of cash if you just play through the game and don't buy armor at every city. In my experience with Prophecies, you only need to buy armor twice. Once at Ascalon and once at Droknar's Forge, which is WAY later in the game. Then there's collectors which will offer you max level gear for practically nothing.
If you just want to buy plat so you can play Barbie with your characters, then I would suggest playing with Barbies. There is a sense of accomplishment in spending hard earned money on something you've wanted for a long time.
Why should the person with the bigger wallet be able to buy his way to the top over the people who invested their time into earning their way? Plus even if Anet sells their own gold, I'm sure the third parties would simply undercut them.

You'd be surprised how quickly merchanting those meaningless whites, blues, and purples can add up. Back when I did cartography, I would fight my way through instead of running. I'd only kill a portion of the monsters in the zone but after the money drops and merchanting my items (plus the occasional gold) I'd end up with about 3-4k. Do that a couple times and already you can afford 1.5k armor. Do some vanquishing. When you vanquish a zone, you get cash. Do a few quests. The cash rewards from quests adds up pretty quickly too, especially in Factions.
I am by no means "rich". I've played this game since July of 05 and have only broken the 100k point 3 times. I don't farm hardcore at all. I only do it once in a while when I'm bored and don't feel like doing anything that takes a while. All of those times I hit 100k were through normal playing over a period of a few months just saving up cash and not buying much, if anything at all. Normally I have less than 20k.

I think the reason why they didn't implement it is because they didn't want to contradict their stand. Selling gold for money is likely to be inflating the GW economy (not gonna have a too large impact now, but nonetheless, thats the direction of the effect).
Another reason is probably fairness to those who earn the money through time spent (farming/normal play). Selling gold might actually have an overall negative effect on most players.

Because too many players take the position most commonly seen in this thread. It'd destroy their overall player base.
There is a way to implement it without tanking the economy, but with ultimately trivial technical concerns aside, its all in the publics perception. Hence why hospitals no longer do 'Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging'.

if they are banning people for buying gold then they sure as hell aren't going to start selling it.
i really hope they don't start selling gold... well we all know that they never will so i'm safe there.
besides other companies would just lower the price of their gold which would wreck anet.
the econamy has already taken enough of a beating from ursan, next we are going to have characters right out of pre with FoW armor.
leave it how it is, you can easily save up enough gold to buy 1.5k armor and runes without any grinding/farming, just play the game.

OK..
Why do we reward people with excess time and not excess money?
What difference does it make in how YOU play the game? Instead of worrying about how I got my money why don't you make money the way you want to? You want to buy it? Buy it. You want to spend 8 hours a day farming? Go for it! Whatever floats your boat. I haven't seen a single decent reason to not sell plat. (Outside of the economy issue which can be taken into account when pricing the gold)

Pick up every. single. item. If weapons have good mods, pull them off and sell them. If you get good weapon drops, sell them. If you get good runes, pull them off and sell them to the rune trader, if they're not good runes, sell them to the merchant still in the armor. Some materials will yield more gold if you sell them to the merchant rather than the material trader. Some rare scrolls will yield more gold if you sell them to the merchant rather than the rune trader. Use weapons you get as drops instead of buying new ones. As RPGmaniac said, you don't need to continually buy armor. In fact, if you're not a noob like you claim to be, you should be able to make it completely through any single campaign with starter armor and non-max weapons and a completely worthless skillbar. If that's not what you find fun, boo hoo. That's how you can make money without farming.
I'm sorry that you don't know how to maximize your profit. You have never done it and don't know people who have, I have done it and know other people who have. It's not my problem.

Also you don't need to farm repetitively to get money for your 15k armor. All you have to do is PLAY THE GAME!! It isn't hard to just play through the story line and sell the drops you get. I know for a fact that the money you get from just playing the game is enough to get you a full set of 15k armor. I've managed to buy 5 sets of 15k armor just by playing through the game.
So don't hand me or anyone else here any BS that you can't make any money for your 15k armor because you don't have time to farm.

Personally I think we should get FoW armour, torment weapons and the like automatically put into our inventories when we roll a new character.
Hell, why don't we just have all our characters pre equipped perfectly from the get go in pve.

Furthermore, considering the current state of the US, 22k a year jobs are all that a lot of people, even college educated people, can get.
