Agreed. Bad PR.

Oh, and the banning for famming isn't an urban legend. One guild did get in trouble with this during the World Championships like 16 months ago.

I've never gotten in trouble for ranking people in RA either. Although I normally only do it to Touch Rangers, cuz they deserve it.

Sportsmanship is conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing and winning. Poor sportsmanship is "rubbing salt in the wounds" of the losers among other things. Decent players never rank.

Who cares? It appeals to the average 15 year old casual PvE/PvPer. And that's the majority of Anet's market.

How come, now ANet encourages players to do such things?
Because no one has ever been deranked or banned for it, its just pve whiners crying.

I'd like to see a massive group of people stop playing for some time. That'll get ANet's attention.

Nonetheless, I stopped doing AB because it bored me with people using builds that are all the same just got more annoying than anything.

Once I get to where I've set myself up to getting toward, I'll mostly just end up roaming around until GW2 comes. Once that comes, I'll wait two more months to see how the game is.

I've been getting the same vibes as I've had for a while now from ANet:

1) Fill your Hall of Monuments. We'll supply plenty of titles and added things and you can fill it up to max so your experience in GW2 will be rewarded greatly.

2) We want you to play GW2 because our decisions on how the gameplay, skills and experience you have are derived to making you dislike GW1 so that GW2 will be your next best choice.

3) The phrase "I'm bored" can be erased with what we feel people want to do. You do the missions, you do the quests... now do something we hope you'll like that is "different" and "challenging" for the time being.

You give someone the ability to /rank in game and then say they can't, that doesn't make sense.

It's actually a skill used by Charr vs them just "tea bagging" you.

I don't know if anet ever had an official stance on ranking corpses, but they certainly don't seem very serious about it now. I mean, come on, charr in EotN rank your corpses! I found that hilarious. Anet obviously picked up on the "in-game culture" and made a joke about it. And from there it's not far to actually embracing the trend and using it to promote the new emotes.

IMO people are way too touchy about this.
I agree with everything in this the above statement.

In FPS Games like Counter Strike you could spray paint, in other games there were verbal taunts and such. I see ranking someone as much the same.

As I'v always said, the game is filled with unsupervised children and disfunctional adults. Hence why I don't pvp and I don't party with people. H/H solo ftw!

These emotes are nothing new, just another way to express immaturity. Good sportsmanship does not exists anymore.

Yet another reason Offline gaming will always be better than online gaming.

LOL you think gw is the only game with "unsupervised children and dysfunctional adults" lol @ you my friend before you start stamping your foot and prompting your statements forward you might want to broaden your experience to other MMO's and see what they like. You sir need to sit down and and think about what you want in a game if playing with your self is your thing then i dont think you should come onto forums and complain about online gaming unplug your cable right now after reading this and never return to any MMO forum again cause being part of the forum is also being part of the game... lol your just another "i didnt get what i paid for.. never satisfied customer" i think the people on the net are alright you choose how they effect you!! so man up a little and stop QQ all the time

Meh, I personally think you are overreacting.

Like n1ghtstalker said, there are other things you can do over a corpse that is just as annoying, like /dance, /taunt, /jump or whatever. This is just another one, only this one is more flashy. Should someone ever flash this emote in my face, ill just ignore him. Just as I do when some team is "rankspiking" me in HA. Or shall we get rid of all emotes all together?

There other problems in this game than ranking or emoting over corpses. Some do it for fun, some indeed do it to prove themselves - poor sobs.

Maybe, but if true then I also tend to think how bad the person getting corpse humped would have to be to be killed by said awful individual.

If doing that is such a bad player then it doesn't matter as you should rarely see said emote being done over your corpse. If it bothers you when someone does it to you then just think how bad you must be if said horrid player is doing that to you. Sure they are Nubs who went to PvXWiki and simply copied a build - but then how crappy are you that you can't even beat said scrub no skill build from PvXWiki?

Of course, if you are good enough then it is all irrelevant as you will very very rarely see it (nor do you care about /rank elitism as you are in a top guild). It seems to me that most of the complainers are not looking forward to bad players constantly lording it over them when the complainers loose (after all it took skill, dedication, and extreme teamwork to get beaten by no talent cookie cutter teams).

Any and all titles are mostly purchasable or grindable now - many of the top guilds are selling invites and title grinding so even *that* has been purchasable for quite some time. If you actually think anything other than winning in PvP is respected you are a fool (and even then one can see the losers rarely ever respect it, there is always a reason why loosing is more respected in their mind) - if you are getting ranked enough times to notice then you are loosing and no one else cares about any thing else.

Not only that. The official site makes it look like that this usage was the reason behind its creation. Basically it looks like ANet is saying, you are supposed to use it like that.

Thank god Anet lightened up, is all I can say.

It's a taunt emote, big deal? What if people did /dance over your corpse or /sit on it. Most of the games I have played, MMOs and FPS games alike have had some kind of taunt emote.

I think their current stance on ranking people was made pretty obvious by the Charr in EotN tigering dead players.

Taunt is unsportmanship and it is bad that ANet specifically made an emote just for that. ANet can´t prevent misuse of emotes.

The Charrs get 10 energy and 5 strikes of adrenaline, when it is used.

Still find /excited on top of my dead corpse the most insulting
Would have preferred a emote linked to your amount of Balthazar faction though and not for those keys ... but i guess they don't like Max titles on introduction.

Like I said before, have fun with it ... it's a game and what would be competitive play without taunting?

Augie (iQ) ranked Flyy (iB) during the GWFC at Leipzig Games Convention (possibly the biggest games convention in the world) in front of hundreds of live fans, and tens of thousands who later watched the recorded match. People loved it, the crowd went wild, and that could have been the turning point of Anets perspective on it.

Lighten up, seriously. It could possibly be considered bad sportsmanship like if you are an uptight englishman with a passion for cricket, tea and trouser presses. It's no different to pre/post-match banter and is all part of a competitive PvP game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

It's still ranking a corpse, and I fail to see how Anet giving it additional benefits changes that.

I assume in your world, the only permissible actions are handshakes before and after competitive play? Shall we next remove the ability for players to win since it is unkind to those that don't by implying they are losers?

I don't think the emote is much of an insult to the defeated opponent. I think it says something more along the lines of...

"Phew, that was a tough one. I managed to work up quite a sweat fighting you! Hmm.. I fancy a pint of Strongbow."

Another embarrassing moment for Anet. It's like that person who named his character 'brawling headbutt' and the character got blocked while the same name is used as a skill in the game. Contradictions pop up on a regular basis now it seems.

I don't know what's going on at Anet lately, but it may be time to streamline the team and get their act together.
