No, only Behemoth's in The Falls can drop Totem Axes.
In fact, I think Nicholas' dialogue may actually be referring to The Falls. He says "In fact, if it weren't for the Behemoths, I'm not sure anyone would travel this far into the jungle." which makes me think about Totem Axe farming, which is really the only reason anyone has ever gone to The Falls. But he's already visited that location, so he couldn't visit again.

Best way to farm it is probably the frozen river outside of the Ice Caves of Sorrow (the path taken on the screen).

yes an icy lodestone is an icy lodestone--if you got them in pre they are the same as in post (this does not count for other stuff--but when they decided to have icy lodestones for the canthan new year? and pre was the only place to get them---yeah things in post started dropping them as well)

Yep, you can use the pre-searing ones for the Canthan New Year event, so they are the same.

I am currently farming them in Traveler's Vale (Northern Shiverpeaks) together with Stone Summit Badges!

Solo twice the northern halve should do it (southern part also has centaurs).

Its funny cuz I got two friends working on LDoA who both have like 2 stacks of these, but they don't want to leave pre to sell them cuz they haven't gotten the title yet.
My pre-char only has 50.

Just have them trade them to a trustworthy person willing to leave pre.

I have an abandoned guy in pre, I'll probably pop on later and see if anyone in my guild needs to ferry stones out of there.

I have a character on one of my accounts that takes my stuff every so often from pre to post (like minis and alcohol)...its my pre/post mule...so yeah that works too.

not looking forward to going thru ice dome (not one of my favorite places in prophecies)...

I've had very good luck solo'ing this. Went north to the exit to Iron Horse Mine, now I'll zone and work my way back down. Got 7 on the way up.

Outside wizard folly, with 7lv E/R i did run that takes 4-6 minutes, around 17 icy.....

getting 30 was the easiest farm

Having taken both routes to Icedome (Ice Caves vs Copperhammer Mines), I found Ice Caves to Icedome to be a bit easier but ymmv. The attached pic shows the route with less fighting.

Level 20 Perma-Pre fire Ele... Flare kills the Icy's in 1 hit.
Took me about 30 mins to get over 20 lodestones, outside Wizards Folly.

Then 5 mins to roll a new Pre character on my 2nd account, grab the lodestones from the perma-Pre Ele, ferry them out of pre, and trade them back to my main account.

You forgot going from Droks Forge. I usually only encounter 0-1 tengu groups, 1-2 small stone summit groups. Your route goes through ice imps but it ultimately doesn't make much difference

While it would make more sense leaving from Droknar's Forge, the "weekly Nick love-in" seems to be camped out at Ice Caves.

(Personally, I usually keep "Seeking the Seer" quest active to get rid of the imps.)

5 Root Behemoths in 5 minutes wasn't exactly a tall order. Mamnoon lagoon, around the bottom edge, into sage lands, turn around and into mamnoon lagoon around the bottom edge, into silverwood. Took about 45 minutes to farm enough.
