Nicholas the Traveler - Location Discussion (Updated Mondays)
Raven Wing
I decided to do some counting and went to kill the mob right outside Zos Shivros.
It took 113 runs to get 20 eyes for my 2 accounts.
Yawn.....

Turning right out of Zos and going solo anti-clockwise worked for me. ~10 Kraken and you can easily avoid the Oni spawns once you realise where they are.

That's the run I've been doing. Very little to show for it yet. Only 2 eyes after almost an hour of it. Got 8 regurgitated masses though, and 5 rares. More rares than trophies, sheesh.
LordDragon
Yuck! 2 years in a row I have solo farmed an entire district of items for Canthan New Year. Kraken Eyes are one of the reasons I am NOT sponsoring a district for a 3rd year.
Sube
Took me 2 hours solo spirit spamming around Boreas Seabed to get my 10.
There are 2 groups of 3-5 and 3 areas with one solo kraken, so between 9-13 per run.
And all for some more summoning stones, sparklers, and some ale

Thanks a lot Nicholas. I was saving Luxon Pendants for that area, and you choose to collect Kraken Eyes. *sigh*
dagrdagaz
Farmed (solo, spirit spam) the group of 3 or 4 right outside Zos Shivros
Avarage, i think i got one Kraken Eye per 6 runs

Imo best route to farm them:

Naga patrols easy avoidable, only one Oni group (probably you can avoid them too). I was getting 1 or 2 eyes per run, only one run without any.
EDIT: Just got 5 in one run! ^^

That route is the one I'm taking. That oni spawn on your map pops 3-4 oni.
This means I kill 9-11 kraken spawn and 3-4 oni every run. And wouldn't you know, I'm getting far more keen oni talons than kraken eyes. The damn things just won't drop for me it seems.

I found it easier to keep doing the group directly outside ZoS Channel; yeah it did take awhile but i recon it may have taken longer and slightly irritating more journey going for more
davehall
Current route I am using. Full team of heroes. After flagging my heroes to Geoffer Pain Bringer's bunch, I just re-flag them around that area, killing the two Naga patrols and 1-2 outcast groups. No Oni pops. I may end the run with an attempt at getting Sskai's Sword (B on the map).

Lest121
IMO this week is worst than last week for me, the drop rate is horrible i have done countless runs and still no eye...
June Bug
I needed two sets, it didn't take too long, but longer than the average Nick farm. I found it less frustrating than last week, because the farm run doesn't require you to waste time killing foes that don't drop what you need.
EchoDelta
I found better drop rates fighting Krakens in the Boreas Seabed mission. Just flag heroes away when fighting them.
kermeli
might be stupid question but do u guys kill em nm or hm? at hm it takes quite alot time to kill with sos :S
Phoebe Poison
NM, hard mode doesn't increase the drop rate of trophies.
Mr_Finesse
To reiterate this fact (as per the wiki):
"Foes are more likely to drop rare or hard-to-find items, e.g. bosses are more likely to drop greens. As a corollary, they are less likely to drop low-end items, such as trophies."
So definitely run in NM

HanSolo
I am having absolutely no luck with this weeks' item.
Bassma
Funny enough I've always gotten my green drops in NORMAL MODE vs hard mode. The only thing I've found decent about hard mode are those skill book droppings. Even in EOTN I get more lockpicks to drop than hard mode areas in other parts of the game and my lockpicks don't break nearly as often in EOTN as they do in the rest of the chapters. I normal mode farm with heroes and I always get twice as much stuff in normal mode than I do in hard mode. So definitely a lot of stuff STOPS dropping when you play Hard mode especially resources and trophy drops. Like feather farming I always get twice as much more in normal than hard. I also am getting just as many drops this week with 4 heroes along with me as I am running it solo. So, to make it faster might just as well load up on heroes but not too many.

That's the laugh I'm going to get when Nicholas starts over in about 9 months. Many players think he's going to start over in the same spots requesting the same items. I don't. There's lots more things he could want or ask for than their are areas he could be in. So while he may be back just outside Eye of the North in April I don't expect him to want iris flowers again.

I posted this on the Wiki too, but I really really hope that John and the other GW Devs at Arenanet randomize Nicholas the Traveler after he visits every location once. I like the mystery about finding Nicholas every Monday and collecting the item he wants. I dont want it to be predetermined like the Zaishen stuff.

I have no problem with players making money on Nick's items; I frequently spend one evening farming and buy the rest for our guild if we don't get all the trophies we need. But this week, the sellers has gone nuts!
The normal ratio is half of the average cost of a gift: 4k so if Nick needs 1 per gift than 2k is fine, 2 per gift, up to 1k, 3=700g, 5=400-500g. The seller makes money and the buyer who doesn't have time saves money (instead of buying gifts.)
For some odd reason, people are asking 2k to 5k ea making each gift 4k to 10k! I'm seeing sets of 10 going for 20k to 35k! Players who normally buy is pointing out that 20k for trophies (which means you still have to go out and get it and you use up your allotment) is too high. They also pointed out that all they have to do is skip this week and it will start up in a few days.
But the sellers explained that many bought it at 1k and is now making double, triple their investment...
I just wondered if they heard about the player who did that for several months and ended up losing tons because eventually, she had to buy high to get the items and very few would buy at her prices...for me, when I get extra, I try to stay at the above fair, win-win pricing because it's no fun waiting around in the hope that someone will be so desperate or so new that they haven't figured out that the return isn't there.

No, the buyers have gone nuts. If no one buys a single Kraken Eye at 2k, think how quick sellers would drop to 1k.
It's absolutely stupid to pay 20k or more for a set of Eyes when the gifts themselves could be had for the same price. But people are shelling out the gold, so why not sell at that price? I would too had I a stockpile of Eyes.

Ease of acquisition and availability/supply of the item is the key.
If it's easy to get the item (Red Iris Flowers?), there will be an abundance and as a seller you will not even get your "normal ratio is half of the average cost of a gift" value you refer to.
Conversely if the item is hard to get and rare, the seller can sell for more than your "normal ratio is half of the average cost of a gift".
I have sold gifts for 5k and just sold jujus for 3.5k... so I guess I am one of those "nuts" sellers... but I can live with that... all the way to the bank

June Bug
Yeah, if a drop is rare, I'm not going to waste my time farming it if people expect to pay next to nothing for it. I mean, that is why we farm, to make a profit. Not to be a cheap outlet of Nick items for those who can't be bothered to get out there and do the work.
no loot lucy
Yes, absolutely, it is the buyers that determine the cost. Unfortunately, many buyers are either too young and/or new to realize that 4k for items that you still have to fight to get to Nick when u can just buy it -- or wait until next week when the items will be easier--is stupid.
My whole point is eventually people catch on--and the seller is left with items worth 30g and I for one find waiting for the newbie and/or unthinking person to bite tedious.
Anyway, it will all be over in a few hours.

It was a brutal farm this past week. I'm glad it is over and looking forward to the new week.

We found Nicholas chilling in the Nahpui Quarter, searching for Celestial Essences.

Found him.....Nahpui Quarter. Just leave from Senji's Corner and head down a few ramps. No enemies to fight and you can't miss him. He wants 3 celestial essences.
Sorry no pictures, but should be easy enough to confirm.
Edit: Ooops, Maria beat me to him.

Think I have a few of these in storage, that is good
Star_Jewel
I'm kind of surprised they completely finished off Factions with the last several weeks, rather than randomizing the campaigns. I wonder if that will hold true with the remaining locations in Prophecies, NF, and EotN.
On topic for this week, I also have plenty in storage. But if one doesn't, NM spirit spam in the Nahpui mission should yield plenty of essences (and a few feathers, too).

Voodoo Rage
Too bad he wants so many, I've always stockpiled those because they can be traded for a perfect 20/20 death focus from the collector.
Da Kenster
The above post is correct, spirit spamming build works pretty well in the mission. Do the respawned essences have drops? Just curious as I haven't seen any
jazilla
NM 330 Ele Earth build is amazing for this. I don't play PvE anymore, but I love that build and think I may venture into the abyss for one last Hurrah!
KingCrab
Already hate this farm. Keep dying with multiple celestial essences on the floor. Which is the best of the 4 celestials to kill 1st with a spirit spammer??

Got the 5 the first 30 minutes... not sure what the secret is.
Valshia
No, the respawned essences won't drop loot or give XP. Once the first ones are killed you'll have to restart the mission to get more.

I found the monk boss pretty easy to kill in response to the above post, just space your spirits out so signet of judgement doesn't do damage to them all, and it focused on me, so it went down pretty fast.
