New Halloween Quest Info
Hyperventilate
Got through the bone pits on my fourth try, the rest was a cakewalk.
Rubberbanded on two ataaxes (Didn't go between them, I went around the left one) and died.
This is the end of the quest chain for me. This is supposed to be fun. At least have them save your progress (You talked to X and Y reaper, now get back in there and talk to the rest!) kind of thing, or at least have the reapers teleport you back to the start, like the very beginning where you first load in.
There's no way I'm trying this again unless A-net changes this quest (Which I highly doubt). Take out a few spawns in the pits, give you a hex removal/regen skill, something.
Way too mad to try this again. I thought yesterday's quest was too easy, now this is too hard.

I'm having troubles with the necro infested area. I try knocking down the first 3, but it doesn't last long enough for me to get away scott free.. Then once I use the influence skill as I'd go up the ramp, It always seems to run out as I'm reaching the other end of the bridge. Then I have a patrol group and little time to go anywhere. I try knocking down but my HP doesn't last me long and always die not too far from the reaper.
It's really frustrating me. I've done it many times, even with my RRCandy. I just cannot get it down. Any suggestions?

The one time I did get through, it was just timing and luck. I waited til they were bunched up with as many patrols as possible, and use Influence. That way most of them in the area are friendly. I followed a couple patrols (Just to stay out of aggro) Long enough to have influence re-charge. Then just friendly them and run past. I did that with the patrol that goes around the bend near the reaper.
You'll have to get back through it a second time once you actually talk to the reaper. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I hope you have better, non-frustrated luck than I did.

Got it on the third try.
Doubt I'll do it again.

* Need to wait until you can get groups on both sides of the bridge with a no.4 - if you're facing more than a pair of red dots after 4ing then you're not timing well enough I'm afraid.
* Don't worry about facing a pair of anything, anywhere; just get in the habit of using your "target nearest foe" key (C in my case) followed by your "target next foe" key (tab in my case) - nearest > KD > next > KD. Once you have this down you can disable any pair before they can lay into you.
You're only in real peril when you're facing multiple groups of casters or, like me earlier, you give into temptation to try and sprint passed casters when you should be taking them out the moment you're in shout range.

if you are not able to complete the quest use consumable essence helps alot
It is not worth but speed up the quest so you can do the follow quest red rock candy helps too and shield +60 -3 hex too for pits that is only the hard part of the quest

Failing at the Bone Threshers as well. Which is really awesome when you've done about 50% of the quest then you lose like that. I have only experienced about 50% of UW so a lot of it is unfamilar to me. The necros were spaced apart so well that my influence wouldn't get them, and their spells were incredibly powerful. Shadow Strike hitting for over 100 when your over 50% and FoC also dominates. Faint + Suffering + Parasitic and it was all way too much. Not really in the mood to try that again.

Another tip is using an Essence of Celerity. You can keep up The Mad King's Influence (skill 4) constantly. It could really help.
Mr. Undisclosed
Wow the rubber banding is ridiculous. I was on my way to the ice wastes reaper (last dude) and some aatxes came *near* me. I died and realized I got stuck, I was at 20 minutes
Arachnephobia
I got past the necro area.. That was a pain in the ass... now i'm working on the other areas.. After this I'm done. I'm not going to attempt this on my other 9 characters.. I just hope the next quest isn't as annoying as this one is. D:
Thanks everyone for the tips. I appreciate it.

I am having difficulties not with the actual spawns or getting around but with error 7's, freezing, skills spinning for at least 20 seconds and retuning back to find the dreaded 'return to outpost' box. I can't even stay logged in ToA atm so it is useless to even try the quest unless I want to despise the UW more than what I do atm lmao.
I agree with the suggestion of using essences and speed boosts but in the end it doesn't really help if you are getting kicked out through no fault of your own.

@Those saying this quest is hard. The only hard part is Bone Pits, you can press tab then 3 as you pass through the patrols of two. Use the Influence when you're on the bridge heading to, and under it heading back (or just before the bridge) - or anywhere where there are a large group of mobs - as that is the most clustered area of those Deads.
*goes onto my 5th character to repeat the quest* Besides, it isn't THAT long or boring.
It would take like 10 minutes to kill A SINGLE enemy by wanding...
I think it is a good idea. Besides, if people REALLY wanted to know UW - they'd do the UW quests at Wintersday. After the reaper appears, there are NO enemies. Completely free exploring.

FREE ECTOS: Do the halloween quest, use the 3rd skill to KD an enemy and then wand him to death. Best farm ever.

It wasn't hard at all .-.
Pits, I lost maybe 150 hp total. Tab, 3, tab, 3, tab 3, influence, tab, 3, 1 etc etc.

What Konig said.
Just be patient, wait out patrols, use knockdown then influence when it's most advantageous.
Going on my 3rd char in a bit

As others have said, trick is to using skill 3 to interrupt and keep them from harm's way. skill 2 also is very useful especially when coming back out of pits, which tbh is the hardest part especially if you are not expecting the amount of foeage coming back down the hill from planes at you.
overall good fun, having a blat on char 6 now but can understand why peeps have issues, particularly in pits.

I helped kill the Coldfires at the Ice Elementals. That took about 5 minutes each (since the Elementals killed the thing, it didn't drop anything). I'd assume killing solo would take twice as long - if not more - since the Ice Elementals only wand as well.

got two part video of the run up now for anyone who needs it. http://www.xfire.com/video/1760a3/ part 1 http://www.xfire.com/video/176128/ part 2

I just bought an essence and breezed through it I just wanted to enjoy the quest so that worked for me but paying 4k for a set would annoy some people. Interesting enough of lore, like how all the reapers have different personalitys too.

I just wanded a terrorweb with red rock up and it didn't take that long. 232 xp, no drop.
Arachnephobia
If there was a hex removal, the quest would be much more enjoyable, but since there wasn't, it was a pain to get past. But after FINALLY Getting past it my 6-7th try the rest was simple.
I'm not going to be trying it on my other characters..

just cant do pits....everything else I can get thru....and KD does NOTHING, they dont fall over, they just keep coming and dropping more degens....and yes I targeted them correctly and they dont fall over or anything.
very annoying quest....for those who say its ez pezy, well ......its not that way for everyone...and for a HOLIDAY quest is far tooo annoying, long and not very interesting (unless you truly do enjoy just exploring, well I already have gm carto and uw doesnt count for it).
I wouldnt mind if we could kill them off like you do with the wintersday quests, but just making them friendly for 15 seconds (yeah, 20 right, uh-huh)....just doesnt help much when you have to go thru them twice.
I will TRY to finish it with one character.
and the tonics that are the reward wont work outside an outpost so doubt they will be used for the next quest unless they did some major revamping.

Technically you don't use them outside of an outpost if you use it BEFORE you speak to the reaper. So it's a possibility that you'll be using it.

As for the tonics, the transmogrifier tonics don't work outside of outposts either, still, you're using them to get into a quest and to run around in the UW as well.
I can easily imagine them being the required tonics for the next quest.
Also, I guess I'm one of the lucky players who don't have any trouble with lag.

They also need to be in earshot range. Everything can be knocked down, even the behemoths.
Giga_Gaia
Wow this quest is annoying as hell. Running from person X to person Y quests suck. It was fine yesterday but now you have to run all over the place? Not my idea of fun. Not everyone farms UW all day long Anet. And would it really kill you guys to put a self heal in one of the empty slots??
Kumu Honua
Not knowing Underworld makes the quest far more difficult and I suspect is why many don't enjoy the quest.
The layout of the zone IS annoying if you don't know the twists and turns and especially in the bone pits where the degen is the most dangerous the twist at the bridge REALLY can cause easy failure.
I enjoyed the quest myself. The dialogue is pretty good. The length of the quest was indeed monotonous though.

well even knocked down they still managed to put 2 hexes on me (and only 2 of them were there at the time--no others even slightly out of agro range).....so something isnt right .........
and why do they have to be solo quests? one was fine, two is getting old.....though I guess anet is changing things around so its possible lots of gw2 may also be solo?
am way to frustrated with this quest right now, makes me not want to play anymore......so I think I will go and watch some tv and wait and see what the next quest is (and/or the reward) as to whether I bother with this again. Not one of their better quests in my book I give it a 2/10.
(and for the poster above me, I dont have nor will I ever have a 'sin....never liked the class and never ever even wanted to play it).

Took me a few times to get Pits down, once you get a pattern it is quite easy. I tend to KD each initial beastie and then use Influence when I'm running under the bridge. Then hold up in the next corner until the single thresher patrol heads under the bridge away from me. I KD the 2 standing near the bridge, run across the bridge, and Influence as soon as I get the 4 or so patrols in range. Then i just KD the patrols on the way up to the reaper. Getting out is typically much easier than the approach.
I also experienced rubber banding with the aatxes which was quite frustrating. I now tend to keep /stuck in the chat bar and <enter><up arrow><enter> every time i run by some beasties just to make sure i'm truly past them. Managed to get the run down to 19 minutes without consumables (20 minutes once the reapers and king frozenwind finally stop talking).
Off to toon #6.

I got it in 22 minutes and didnt realize you don't have to stand at the reapers once the dialogue starts.
Side note, for a tid bit of extra help, armor of salvation at least gives a little defense for people having trouble. But red candy is a staple for this run for me. It is epic win in just speeding this crap quest up.
EDIT!! hopefully as suggested this is to just get people familiar with the routing of UW so the next missions might be the challenge, cause this was just running for 25ToT in my opinion.
PS, japanese district gave me least lag if anyone is having that trouble.

The reward is the profit, and possibly more rewards from follow-up quests. byteme! is right in that people should cry a little less. Just in ToA now there was a guy who finally managed to finish the quest after 6 hours. 6 hours! It's not like the quest takes that much skill, there are just 4 skills. People are falling flat on their faces in the bone pits I imagine. Well, if you use half a brain you can get through there in a few tries. If you really really really can't do it, just use an essence and be done with it. It's not like the quest is impossible... just did my second 14-minute run with a red rock candy.
shadows of hob
Woah guys, you really scared me with this.
But srsly, this was easy. Just run around and spam your skills and wait a sec for 4 to be recharged.......
Can't wait for the next one.

Knowing ahead of time that Pits had a lot of degen and the Wastes has a lot of snares makes all the difference. I finished the quest in two runs, only failing the first time due to rubberbanding in front of two Aatxe.
