No it's not. I've never used tab. He's a stranger from that dark, shady side of my keyboard that my fingers never stray towards (in games) that looks like he's hiding something sinister under that coat. :/

Pits area was really hard for me until i realized KD skill got 1 sec recharge Since that i made quest with 4 of my 7 PvE characters so for and usually it takes 24 minutes to do this quest.
Malla13
The second quest was super-tough. I hated that sinking feeling in my stomach as soon as I saw the red-colored "Master" in front of the quest dialogue. -.- Is there a prize for slowest time? 43 minutes, woohoo...
XD Thanks for the laugh. I just about sprayed my monitor with soda.

Died on my first attempt to do pits,
Finished the quest the second time I tried it, even tough I have never been into uw and had no clue where all the reapers were.
But in the end I had more trouble with the large pop up of mindblade spectres on my way to pools then I had with bonepits.
I am kinda surprised that nobody noticed that.
Large group of spectres popping up, hexing before you can do '4", and 4 annoying dryders directly after.
Especially on the way back I thought: Man, I just created an impossible spawn to pass.
Was more luck then skill I passed there anyway ( KD on all dryders, 4 on spectres, and run like hell)

I'm a casual player.
This quest was easy.
I died that first time after rubberbanding and getting pinned against a wall by two attaxes. That was frustrating, I admit, but I was only 2 minutes in, so I didn't care too much. Second run I completed it, slowly but surely, no cons. It really was good to learn the layout and see the environments of UW, as I rarely get the chance. Twin Serpents and Spawning Pools were my favourites to run around in, due to the lack of threatening enemies, and Bone Pits really kept me on my toes.
I am looking forward to something other then running for the next quest though. I wonder if we'll be using those Phantasmal Tonics for it?

Well, I failed this 2nd quest 2x before completing it 3rd try, and just finished doing it on a 2nd character (1 more to go). Anyway, while I was running my 2nd char I got to thinking, maybe Anet isn't planning a quest every single day because they knew that some people were going to struggle with a quest or 2, give the players a couple days to work through the tougher 1(s) that way more people would have a chance to FINISH the quest chain and get whatever may be at the end. What I mean is, they said this is a one shot only deal, that's it, no more... so if they have a quest every single day that puts huge pressure on what I would imagine to be a fair chunk of the playerbase to finish them every day, now for whatever reason be it a challenge with the quest, school, kids, work, whatever everyone may not get the quest done every day and thus miss out at the end. Could also be a reason for the tonics as part of the reward for the 1st easy quest, they knew people were going to need a few tries at the next quest. I'm actually glad they did it this way.
Divine Ashes
First try on this quest, I did it in about 17 minutes. I used a red rock candy and that's it. I don't see why people have problem with Pits...it's fairly easy to c-KD-Tab-KD for the groups and the 20 second shut down for groups larger than 3 or 4...using it under the bridge especially helps. Besides this all the other areas went swimmingly. I actually have very little prior knowledge of the UW (I only went through most of the areas once on my sin...solo). I had a close call in the spawning pools until I figured out the 1 sec recharge on the 10 second KD...and on the quest prior I almost died in the Frozen wastes...no problems in the pits though.
upier
I still haven't gotten around to doing any of the quests.
I am not interested in solo quests in a team game.

People look at it this way. What better way to familiar yourself with UW then this? You get Imba skills to help you navigate yourself throughout the Underworld. Not only that but some of the creatures were removed i.e Charged Blackness. Complaining for lack of experience is not an excuse now that you have some tools to go out and get that experience.

Although I said I won't be doing the second quest on many toons I have to take this back
Those phantasmal tonics might be needed to enter the UW for the 3rd quest. Running around UW as rift warden that should be fun. Wonder what the skillbar will be............

This was about as hard as setting a clock on a VCR.

Unfortunately, it's just as boring as well.

Are you all actually arguing about the difficulty of an optional holiday quest that actually makes you think?
I mean, I hate messenger pidgeon quests as much as the next guy, but when I have to Dash, DeepFreeze, Gale, and call mobs my bitch to get there, I'm having fun. Especially when I find out that people can't get through an area 'cause of hexes...

My advise for the 2nd quest is go to the bone pits first, and watch the patrol path of the mobs. Try to use the 4th skills when they are all bunched together.
There is a far amount of luck involved as well unfortantely.
If anyone is looking for a map of the Reapers, one can find in my event thread here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10408977
Also use as many skill boosters as possible, +10% Moral, health items like Candy apple and movement boosters like Cupcakes.

I'm not a pro uwsc-er, far from it. The only area I've ever tried was vale, me being a vale necro. I don't do uwsc, I don't know the layout of the UW.
My favorite areas are the wastes (smite crawlers are SO pretty), and plains (the mist there looks awesome, and so do those ghost riders).
I did the quest on all my characters now, can't wait for the next one ^_^

Complete it 2nd time - 21 minutes
Weird most damage came from the Behemots and their projectiles
Pits: for groups of 1 or 2 foes use the KD when surrounded by patrols use 4th skill
Plains: use mostly jsut snare and speed boost; save 4th skill for the pop up mesmers with heavy degeneration
Pools: I used 4th skill just for 2 groups; rest is avoidable and if not you only need 3rd skill
mountains: jsut dont hug the behemots and play dodge.
The rest is easy.
and again my first time in pits and pools...never completed UW... so is not that hard even if you dont know the place

No longer is it dark and shady and wearing a trenchcoat. It is now brightly lit, playful and fun on the blessed side of your keyboard!

I really enjoyed this second quest. Kinda reminded me of droks running back in 'ye olden times' So long as you look at the radar, watch the patrols etc there really is no need for consumables and all that stuff. The KD skill is your friend, and the 4th skill is there to rescue you if you need it.
They removed a lot of mobs and patrols too., I expected to be swarmed by the usual critters, but most of them had gone.
Looking forward to the next one.
I really do hope they introduce Dhumm as a new boss for the UW, but i'm not getting my hopes up. It may be we end up closing the doors again and trapping him back inside until next year when he will threaten to come out again like some halloween boogy man

Rubberbanding at the end ftl.
Can't bring myself to try again just now....it's too boring for that.

25 times unable to get past the pits...yes I watched the video, yes I kd them. they still manage even WHILE kd to drop degen on me....got to the reaper once....but unable to get back...
Yes I suck real bad for not being able to do this kind of quest. I am a horrible player. I am not crying, just saying that there is challenging and then there is frustrating.....and I understand there are lots of players who enjoyed this and were quite capable of doing it on multiple characters, then there are some of us who just cant hit the keys quickly enough/in the right order fast enough/whatever reason-excuse.
As has been said its a holiday quest, its supposed to be FUN .....MOST of the holiday quests have been very doable by ALL players, this one leaves quite a few of us behind (sorry I am not a LEET player with uber skills and a fancy ugly spear etc).....for the very casual player I find this more than I can handle and I certainly hope the final reward sucks since I wont be able to get one (unless I some how come up with a few billion ectos and have the ability to buy it from another player----anet could make it non-transferable)....
I guess I just dont have what it takes for this, call me stupid or an idiot (which has been said)....its just more than I am able to do. Know your limits---this is past mine.
...would have been nice if they did something like make the mobs in the area of the reaper you talked to friendly on the way back. Or a quest that wasnt another solo quest. Or one that wasnt a fed ex quest. Or give you some kind of healing/degen removal seeing as that is the only really hard area in the whole thing.
well I never go to the underworld, and there is probably going to be lots of changes to it after these quests are over---to make it even harder.....more of a real elite area. Will be interesting to see what those will be.
to those who helped me...thanks.

Just something i found by chance:
On twin serpents mountain, behemoths behave according to the weapon you have equipped, so basically if you have a melee weapon they will use traps non stop, and with a caster weapon equipped they will focus much more on ranged attacks and stop trapping.
barely had to use any skill apart from the running one on mnts

Finally did it on my third go after lag/rubber banding on my first two attempts. Used a Red Rock Candy to speed up the run, the pits was the only area that i found difficult.
Doubtful i will do it again on another char, found it far from enjoyable.

I failed once at pits, did it a second time with a 1000ms ping... It's not that bad, just walk slowly and take some time to figure out where enemies will be, 3 and 4 are my friends. I almost died the 2nd time though on the very last enemies, was lucky to hang at 15hp but that was my fault anyway.
dekusvamp
This was a fun quest, did it last night.
I don't see any problems at pits though, i just ran through them with rush, charmed, and avoided their route for the 5 secs they weren't charmed.

LOL, ~6k worth of consumables to cut 7 minutes off the time?
I guess this nets 125 ToTs/35 tonics per hour, *ALMOST* as much as you'd get farming. (Doesn't include the ~20 gold unid, ~20k vendor trash/tomes/scrolls/ink/matls, chest/[un]lucky titles - OR the -30k consumable cost!!!) |
Anyway, I'm out of chars now, managed another 14 but didn't get another 13 or under.

You dont have to complete this quest in order to do the next one, do you? other wise ..meh :-(

the quests are sadly chained, the latter half of this quest is going to be VERY low in success rate.

Wow lol..
I found this quest to be easy, and i didn't use any additional speed boost?
Guess i'm getting too used to uw <.<

Stolen Souls
Managed to finish it on one of my characters (had no Rock Candies so I just used one of my Celerities, lol)...won't be doing it on any others. I know we all have different tastes, but I just didn't find it fun at all. Hopefully the next couple quests are more than just "Run over there and talk to that guy, then run way over here and talk to this guy. Quest completed.". But eh, we shall see.
Deviant Angel
I must admit, I nearly threw my keyboard across the room when I died while exiting pits on my first run... and then when a lag spike got me in the lab... but it went very smooth on my other characters and I'm really enjoying the quests so far!
My advice for those of you having issues in pits would be to to use skill 3 on anything that could pose a threat when skill 4 is recharging.
The quest really isn't as difficult as some people make it sound.

I rarely play anymore, and I've never fully cleared the Underworld. That said, this quest was not hard. People that know their way around the UW should have no problem doing this quest in about 20-30 minutes. I took my time and did it in about 50 minutes. Slow and steady, and it really isn't hard. I'd recommend doing the Pits reaper early on though - that was the only area that can be tricky, but that is because of the speed of the patrols in the area, and the fact that they are casters. If you take your time and go slow (I waited for my #4 skill to recharge pretty often before proceeding), you really shouldn't have much of an issue. I'll probably work through this one with my other characters by the end of the week.
Honestly, I think lag is your worst enemy down there.

Haven't had the time to do more than 5 mins on 1st quest and 5 on the 2nd one, but it is really very enjoyable. It's simple and not much, but it's fun and new.

The real shock is how easy the 1st quest is, and then how looooooong the 2nd one is. That and the fact you don't get much of a reward for the 2nd quest is a bit of a piss take.
I didn't even get a single Trans Tonic from my reward ToT bags to replace the 12 I used to do the dang quest in the first place :S

Thats why the first is so easy, to give you lots of tonics to try the second. I'm glad it's a fairly challenging quest. IMHO For too long people have been used to just blamming stuff with Cons sets, pve skills and wik, when something comes along that needs a bit of careful running, looking at patrols etc it's a great and welcome change.
Good stuff Lindsey.

If they would give you like, 50 ToT bags for it, people would farm it, and why make a quest just so it could ruin economy, even more at this point.
EDIT:: /sign post above me

The economy is already a joke, how worse could it get? lol
You know not all of us need that stuff you no, and using consets doesn't make you a bad player. They are there to be used.

I didn't think that A.net's first thought was, when they made the cons, that people should use it to reduce recharge of Shadow Farm to farm even faster and better, and that's exactly why theyre shutting down UW now.
