New Halloween Quest Info

you pretty much have to use mad kings revelry right when you get under the bridge in pits. then KD anything in your path that lives. once you get up to the reaper, you can regen. on the way back down, again use revelry right before hitting the bridge. after passing the bridge you may be able to find a safe spot to regen, but you should be able to KD the next guys.

I did the Reaper quest last night with just one character and after completion I didn't plan on doing it with others. Today I'm considering it. Once done it doesn't seem all that bad. Yeah, it took me three tries to get in and out of Bone Pits - it can get a little tricky if the pathing is off a bit. If you think about it though, a person can get to Bone Pits in like one minute, so failing shouldn't feel so bad. I'm sure we've all failed more times at something over the years that's taken more time, and been more difficult.
If you push aside the tension and worry about failing, after Bone Pits it is generally just a jog like has been said. Many of the mobs have been taken out - and most of the ones remaining can just be sprinted past. Because of the numbers, what they are and/or space available there really isn't any other challenge. Behemoth, Wailing Lord, Smith Crawler, Dream Rider can generally be ignored/skirted/ran through. Aatxe break off attack quickly with a speed boost active. Grasping, Coldfire and Dryder you'll probably want to #4 if you're going to aggro. After exiting the starting room to the Labyrinth there is just one mob. Only 4 Aatxe from there to the Vale (which only has two groups of Grasping in a very large area (can be avoided)). Back from there and then pretty much just a repeat of quest number one in the Wastes.
So, in a winded post, do the Pits first as suggested multiple times. It's only a few minutes wasted if you fail. Once out of there it's a cake-walk unless you do something stupid.

I died my first time through the bone pits as well. I then did the pits first the next run and had no trouble. Two things really helped.
-I realized the pits layout was the same as the one christmas UW quest. That gave a sense of where I was going.
-Save the Make Friendly skill for the bridge. That's where you need it the most. Try to rely on the KD skill until you are going under or over the bridge (rest in between). Like someone said before, take your time and KD one without aggroing, then KD the other and run.
I really, really like these quests. It's nice to have a new task each day instead of farming the same quest a hundred times. And I learned more about the layout of the underworld than I could have from ten speed clears.
Theory: Mad King Thorn is the only one who can kill Dhuum by challenging him to rock paper scissors.
Seriously, maybe we'll find out where the mad king's powers over death come from?

This is safer than going to pools first in my experience, because you will always spawn the 2 groups if you go that way. Dying from spectres is kinda hard though, the hexes aren't too dangerous.
Made another map with what I think is the optimal route (click for fullsize):
The blue spots are the reapers obviously. The orange spots are where I used skill 4. Explanation of orange spots:
1. Chamber: just friendly the whole chamber and run through.
2. Vale: friendly the aatxes and grasps at the bridge so you don't get stuck on them.
3. Vale: friendly the grasps on the way back again so you can run through.
4. Mnts: friendly the large group if they are within aggro so they can't hit you. The rest is knock downable or dodgeable.
5. Pits: kd the first few (threshers first, then collectors), use friendly under the bridge.
6. Pits: on the way back, kd the first few and use friendly on the bridge.
7. Planes: friendly the 'pools group' of mindblades
8. Pools: friendly the first group of 4 or 5 in the water (kd works too)
9. Pools: same on the way back. Don't friendly the group near Planes or it won't be recharged for the mindblades.
10. Planes: friendly the 'pools group' you popped earlier.
11. Planes: about half of the time another group of mindblades will spawn. Usually skill 4 won't be recharged, but you can run past with skill 1 and survive the one or two hexes easily.
12. Wastes: after snaring the first group of smites, friendly the second group with the coldfires.
13. Wastes: friendly the group of coldfires and smites on the way to the king. KD the last 2 or 3 near the king and you're home safe!
Hope this helps.

ok managed to do the run in 22 without skill 4 or any buffs what so ever
It very much depends on pits spawns. In my first attempt i was forced to encounter 5 enemies at once after having succesfully gone to reaper and back through under the bridge. Unfortunately tab targeted a foe not in range first rather than that running at me so i got killed there.
But on the 3. try (RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOed up second @bridge) I was able to pull one group to the very far edge where you run up to bridge and than slowing them therefore taking out 1 group, than i just waited till the bridge was more or less free (keeping 1 group kd for about 50 secs non stop) And run through, and about the same on the way back. I really loved to do this, as it really requires you to pay attention to many things @once (such as, when you kd whom and when the situation is optimal to go on.
The ghosts in plains are easy, i kd them but found out that you actually could just let them do their 2 hexes and keep running (you still have plenty of life)
Oh and i tried using banana scythe to farm (a group in plains actually) but as i was only doing 2 damage per hit gave up really quick, but it should be doable if you have the nerves

pits is easy...just do kd get a lil back, do other kd, since those kd deal no dmg you wont aggro so u can kd the small group, then run away, if there are too many of then close to you use savagery.
only think than can fail you is bad rubberband @ aatxes.

I have to say is thank you anet! you mean to tell me you actually have to watch the patrols to solve the quest consistently? damn them how dare they lol
and they took out mobs in the uw on top of it all.. I can run it pretty fast once figured out pits- up to 4th character now
funny one guy in lions said he can't even find one reaper rofl =]
might as well post my method.. it's 100% on bone pitts- just sprint into the tunnel and kd the first 2 threshers asap- run down and you'll see one by himself.. kd him and sprint up under the bridge
soon as you get into casting range of the two threshers coming down the hill, use skill 4.. now wait before the bridge for two threshers on the other side to come down- right before get aggro again hit skill 4 and run over the bridge and to the right
kd the two going up to reaper.. on way back down- same thing, want to save skill 4 until your right up on the bridge.. run through
skill 4 on the exit tunnel and you'll see 2 more on the way out.. kd the thresher and sprint out
I knew there were wammos in the game.. but I just didn't know how many were left till today I think they want skill 4 with 1 second recharge.. and even then that might be pushing it for them!

There is no new Halloween quest today. Yesterday's quest, as a lot of people found, was challenging, so Linsey wanted to give you all a bit of time to finish it before another quest is given.

Looks like there's no new quest today. Ooh well. Back to the UW.
Holy Warblade
can't really complain, I am just glad we are getting new stuff to do, guess more Costume Brawling until tmrw.

They never said they were daily... This wasn't a last minute change, this was programmed from the start (there wasn't an update to change the quest times was there?).
Lokik
Lol I found the quest easy to once you know how to failed my first time almost fed up the 2nd time lived with 1hp after pits and completed and than failed a few times more after completeing it 4 more times (got impatient lol) as you said not to difficult and no speed boost either
Vilaptca
Man I stayed up late working on this quest on all my characters. I guess I can sleep for a bit knowing I still have more time to finish it on the other ones. Its just so boring.......
Stolen Souls
Why don't some people realize that they are not daily, and that they said they were not gonna be daily from the start? Would you rather have one today and not tomorrow? I mean, I just don't understand the point of complaining. o_O
Just have patience and look forward to the next one. Go perma farm your ToT bags or something to pass the time. xD

I don't recall them ever telling us they were going to be daily quests - that was assumed by the player base.
Frankly, I don't think the decision has a lot to do with who can or can not complete it as much as they are trying to fill a week with only 4 quests and hoped this one would be challenging enough to keep us busy for 2 days instead of one. And maybe it is. I have 3 chars I have not done the quests on. Maybe I'll go ahead and run them to ToA and finish these two while I wait for the next one to come out.

No complaints here. I still have seven characters to run through this (several of which never did quest one either).
They're just trying to spread the content over the course of the event, nothing wrong with that. I just hope there isn't another break or the last quest might come out on monday. Then again, they might just release two quests on saturday or something...who knows?

electrolust
do you have to finish one quest to get the next one?
Wheel of time
yes you have to, but the quests are available for the whole event, so you can do q1 on the last day if you wish

Hmm, okay. Just having lots of trouble with quest number two. Was kinda hoping you could skip some.

But they do say they are a series of quests.
Anyway, I found that there was something lacking from yesterday's quest - A NEW SKILL!!!
"More Cowbell" 5e, 1:00SR -Shout For 5:07, regular background music will be replaced by a classic rock song performed by Blue Oyster Cult.

I've uploaded a video to YouTube in 3 parts for anyone still having trouble with the Don't Fear the Reapers quest. Part 1 is Labyrinth, Vale, Mountains, and Planes, in that order. Part 2 begins and ends in the Bone Pits in case you just have trouble there. Part 3 runs from the entrance to Bone Pits to Spawning, back to Wastes, and done. Links below:
Don't Fear the Reaper: Part 1 7:48
Don't Fear the Reaper: Part 2 - Bone Pits 3:24
Don't Fear the Reaper: Part 3 9:01
Turn off annotations if you don't want to see tips, and watch in high quality if you can. Good luck to all. I'll probably repeat the quest on more characters since there is not a new one yet.

Not giving players the third quest today doesn't give players more time to complete the second quest. It just gives players less time to complete the third and fourth quests.

Would be better if for the duration of skill 4, the bgm gets replaced with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c4L4CPfQY8

You don't seem to get my point, people are using the "They wont be daily" quote as proof that they can't release the quests one after another when thats incorrect seeing as they could release them the day after the previous one and it still wouldn't be daily.

@Video above: Copyright issues, but that would be funny.

I agree. I see the quest as a version of the old Thunderhead Keep. A place to weed out the less successful but then once again you get enough people QQing about it and they change or extend it as was the case here. I mean there was still 5 days to complete this quest now we are down one day to complete the new one. I am hoping the next quests are more similar to the first quest short and sweet. A nice team quest would be cool as well.

Whoa, slow down there cowboy, I haven't heard anyone say they are shutting it down - most are expecting a major overhaul. It is also possible they are doing a lore bridge to GW 2, but shutting it down is very unlikely.

Any way it's gonna be nerfed, it's not gonna be used as much as now.
