What a horrible waste of developers time who could be adding *gasp* new actual playable content and improving the game instead.
Also what a horrible waste of real $$ to buy something like this in a game. Whenever I see someone wearing this in game I will /point and /laugh at them. Pathetic. |

My main account isn't linked to NCplay and I don't plan to link it. Is Anet planning on selling these costume keys on other online stores like they did with Mission Bonus Pack? I bought one for my friend and I would like one for my account. By the way, they tax you on this shit. $0.92 which ain't much but kinda bullshit for taxing virtual items. Anyways, I don't know why people bitching and crying over this, with or without the costumes the game is still the same.
Shadowspawn X
The point of his protest was that when you have people who are willing to spend 10 bucks for a ingame turd it encourages Anet to get more agressive with the micro transactions and it effects the whole playerbase. You can be assured that GW2 will be a micro transaction nightmare. Now had the players resisted the micros and not set the precedent of buying any and everything they would go away, but the more people buy the more will be for sell and the less value it will be.
DoomFrost
Bought the costume pack, Grenth costume is awesome especially when paired with a skull mask.

For those that bought it.. did you buy directly on Guild Wars? or did you go through the plaync website and buy it? Anyone use paypal? o_o
Martin Alvito
Shadowspawn, gaming companies have figured out that microtransactions permit them to segment the market. This is particularly important to a company like ANet that charges a flat rate irrespective of usage. It's unrealistic to blame them.
"Had the players resisted" is a joke. Classic collective action problem. The company is always going to win that war; if people want to spend that money, they'll spend it irrespective of efforts to organize the community or the sense of the individuals who can see the writing on the wall.
Nothing we can do about microtransactions except deal with it. As long as the company is just selling exclusive shinies, it really isn't a big deal.

So male paragons can finally put some pants on thanks to these costumes, but only if you fork over the dough.

I brought mine directly on Guildwars. Dont really trust plaync website. I believe paypal would be safe way to pay tho.

Hmm I'd wait until this the price gets cut in half (hopefully something like the additional xunlai panes). I'm guessing they might give a huge discount after the holiday season is over....
Yeah.... 10$ is a bit too expensive for just two costumes.

Those costumes just say - "look at me, I'm pathetic, I have to spend money to look cool in a video game."
Feel free to make fun of those people when you see them in game, they're easy to spot

I bought it.
The additional slot for the past (and future) festival hats is a great addition.
Tragically I somehow messed up showing my Halloween hats to the festival hats guy this year and they do not seem to be available to me anymore. All my past ones are. I think there was a bug when I tried because it did take my money, but they never showed up. I should have checked before I deleted them.
Anyway.. cool and fun addition.
For all the free time I have enjoyed over the years on ANET servers I like to buy these kind of things from time to time to help with developer fees, etc.

As long as these micro transactions don't effect the balance of the game then there is no problem in my eyes. Games with no monthly fee need micro transactions to survive. People tend to forget that Anet employees people and pays server fees etc. They need the money. For about 30 bucks you can pretty much get all the guild wars expansions and play online for years (for me 4 years and counting). Compare that to WoW where you pay monthly $15, if you played for 4 years that is $720.
People that buy these costumes have no game play advantage over you. People who have money get what they want. That is how life is.

I think this was an excellent idea and long time coming.
I for one don't want to spend months and months of grinding for enough Ecto (or what have you) for a costume. I've played the game since it came out and barely missed the beta, I should have at least one of fissure by now from casual play. I don't. If I had wanted to spend all my time going for it I could have probably, but I have other obligations, wanted to see the storyline, and actually enjoy the world and what has taken countless hours and people to create. I've always resented that scenario, but it's just a game. I'd rather not form a gaming addiction (nor put my companion through one for that matter) for a bloody costume.
Anyway, what I really want to give them mad props for is that they didn't just make any old design and try and sell it. There's obviously aaaa lot of attention to detail, so the price for the quality is fair. I doubt they're going to make a killing off of it due to man hours. It's "Limited" too, so I think it's a great way to raise money and also a great way players can actually show some support! Hint, hint.
If they keep putting in the work to make a quality product, they should be fairly paid. I know I expect to. Heck, maybe they should sell some stuff that shows support for Guildwars like character class shirts or funny shirts about Drok runs and such. I just know I don't ever wanna see these guys tank since they tried to provide an alternative to a monthly pay structure when they were near crazy for doing so. If I recall correctly no one else at the competitors seemed to have cared less that they were milking their own customers like gluttons. On GW they were even able to keep graphics nice and gameplay unique and balanced (It even works on a dialup with no real loss in quality for pete's sake.) No easy feat people.
Besides, the money would probably go to GW2 development, so most people playing this long will be sticking around to see the fruits of that effort anyway, so it's hard for me to really understand how any complaints/worries can really be too justified. Plus the pack(not singles) were just $9.99... come on. They could have done each individual one for $9.99 and $19.99 for the set and gotten away with it! Surely competition would be worse or at least equivalent to that.

Well, I'm disappointed that they've gone the route of microtransactions, and I hope that we get the opportunity to buy other costumes in game for in-game gold (AND FOR THE LOVE OF PETE DON'T ADD ANOTHER CURRENCY JUST TO USE ON THEM... I'm looking at you Z-coins. <_< )
Other than that... goodness they are pretty! o.o
$20 Amex giftcard here I come!

Ugh... just caught that I can't wear my halloween hat in the costume slot... ok, that was a bad call. I've waited for that functionality for a looooooong time. Missed a good Halloween for the hat since I figured eventually they would add the feature. Now they do and it seems only for this costume or maybe available only after.
Jugalo Dano
Like other's have said, guildwars is starting to show her age. Personally it doesn't bother me that they are adding a few micro's here and there for extra cash flow; albieit the costumes seem a bit silly to me. The other micro's they have come out with in the past atleast have had some function to help the player in some way without gamebreaking.
I gotta say though if micro-transaction's are part of the big plan from the start with gw2 I'll be pretty let down. They seem to sort of ruin the charm of a game and give it a cheap appeal, no matter what the game is.

Anyway...
I realize this is somewhat of a frivolous update... but what can I say? They got my $10 for it. I totally dig on silly things like this that don't have any affect on the game so I'm totally jazzed with this.

All the more reasons to believe that Anet is having difficulties with the server upkeep cost.

The most pathetic thing is that THIS seems to be the promised New Content for Wintersday they have been so busy working on. How incredibly lame, way to milk
2nd most pathetic thing - people who think they support Anet and help them finish GW2 faster by buying those. LoL. The only thing you're contributing to is increasing the chance GW2 will be made entirely based on microtransactions from the grounds up!

I like for a few reasons. It's nice to have the cosmetic slots; other games do this, and it's taken GW a while to catch up. Granted, I know, GW1 is a "dying game" but what goes well in GW1 may also be in GW2. I like costume slots.
I don't mind playing the $10 for something that looks really neat, and people are having fun with it. And the update means we can now use the festival hats in the costume hat slot, too, which is pretty sweet. I like that.
I'm sure we'll see whole mobs of line dancers in these outfits, but you know what? I'm ok with that. I love how they look. And they're totally optional. And it's easy to get them (I'd rather have to pay than have a repeat of the mini polar bear incident, with lots of people trying to find out how to get something through some crazy ingame means).

At least that way you'll know that from the start so that you'll be able to walk right past it in the store.

The fact that people are bitching about this means that the costumes are nice. If the costumes are ugly, it doesn't matter even if they are micro transactions. You wont get many complaints, just LOLS.
Paradise Lost
Anet store is pretty secure. Im not buying this costume due to it being a bit ugly imo, i like my armor better.
But i have bought makeover packs and an extreme makeover pack, so i know ive helped anet a bit. Thats my part.

lol @t enjoying visual appareance for real money. What is "fun/enjoyable" in theses costumes ? Maybe roleplaying ppl can really using thems but is there any roleplayers left in GW ?
How strange are the community nowadays, they prefers visuals & ephemerals contents instead of real content. And they're happy buying it at all price (a.k.a aion's wings).
At the beginning we have the Sorrow's furnace at free, and then BMP, and then two costumes at 10 bucks. In 2010, they're gonna sells tonics or summoning's stones at 6$ each ?
It's also funny to see the live team said "we can't create new armors in Gw1 because design and arts are really time-consuming and our team don't have enough people for that".
Oh really ?

Armor is complicated to implement in Guild Wars. I won't delve into the specifics, but it's a nightmare for the artists to perfect. They have better things to do than make another male dragon gauntlets.
Costumes, however, being a single piece, use a much simpler way of implementation, and don't require the complications that come forth when implementing stats, crafters, and all the rest.
Of course, Guild Wars' art is usually high quality if you put aside the horrendous armor clipping. So I imagine that the reason the armor is so expensive is because of just that. Higher price= Higher pay
And yes, I enjoy the visual appearance on my character. I also enjoy roleplaying and making machinima. What's wrong with that?
Dyeane
Well. I liked the costumes, so I bought em. And I must say, the grenth one looks really awesome with the demon mask...
Latham
Yummy, Only $10. Will buy, Thank you Anet.

I've always found this to be absolutely ridiculous. If Anet was offering something that actually had some awesome stats to it instead of just dolling up our characters, I might consider it.
As it is, though, every armor in the game is exactly the same. The only difference is appearance. Give us some new gear. These micro transactions are just absolutely retarded. |
Its for the looks nothing else i bought it I support Anet all the way. :>
ArenaNet is serious business

Can't believe sooooooo many people actually buy this, I can't keep /point /laughing at them ingame
I would happily spend some more $$ on GW if only there was something I would want to buy.
However things I would NOT want are:
-useless visuals like costumes or makeovers
-lame things that everyone can see you spent real $$ on and make fun of you (costumes again)
-things I would HAVE TO buy (insted of want) to gain actual gameplay advantages, like BMP spawning infinite perfect weapons, infinite summon fire imp,
-things for lame and lazy people that you CAN obtain through normal gameplay (unlock packs)
-things that aren't any of the above but still are ridiculously overpriced - what you get is pathetically small compared to the price, for example storage panes.
