Death By An Arrow
thats looking really good! The anatomy of the face feels spot on.
What exactly is he doing with the sword? It looks like he's got the sword in his hand, and is just punching outward. If he's doing sort of like, a stance or something that we can't see completely it could work, but if it's a swipe/slash it might need some adjusting.

I wish I was good at anatomy to give you advice D: He looks so good already that I have no idea what to fix! I feel like there's real movement in there.
Ravenhawk
DBA - I think he's supposed to be in a slashing/thrust motion towards the viewer. *had to check her reference again* But yeah the sword part of the initial drawing was a half-assed attempt lol
And thanks you two. Here's my progress for tonight. Uhm yeah sword later XD

Charlie Dayman
This one looks really good - think it might be my favorite pose of yours so far.
Ravenhawk
Thanks Charlie. I am glad you like it! I noticed my drawings so far are pretty stationary looking and I want to start practicing with action poses to kinda step them up a notch.
Anatomy is still in my to-learn list but I figured it's something that I can mix up with dynamic poses since my level of comfort with anatomy is a whole lot better now than a year ago.
That DA workshop project really helped me a lot plus the feedback/critiques from you Nolani folks.

You did great job on his hair, it look like its moving :O
Ravenhawk
Thanks Magik! <3<3.
I know a few of you are waiting for a tutorial from me. But then I remembered that everything I do is actually based from this tutorial. So I will just be redundant if I made another of mine, get credit for it when it's not really no different from this:
http://digitalartsecrets.com/2010/09...tile-airspace/
Her DA Page: http://scarypet.deviantart.com
So instead of a tutorial, I'll give you guys a history on the Author and how she became my 'unofficial' mentor in DA.
You probably read me mention her several times already. She's one of my main influences in Digital Drawing outside of Nolani. It all started when I inquired about one of her tutorials in DA page (the Red Sonja one..which I can't find that tutorial for the life of me for some reason lol).
I followed it with Unlucky Slayer's mesmer commission back then:
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...tori-155265074
Was working on Yasmin's commish and I asked scarypet why my drawing looks so dark. She gave me the tip on how to correct that:
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...mine-155615173
I was comfortable with that method and then I was starting to get into some sort of a plateau. I asked her for critique on this one:
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...eams-160398357
She gave me detailed advice. I did not redo that drawing but I used all her tips with Frostkisses' commission and the subsequent artworks I did after that:
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...sses-161186056
Around this time, I started exploring anatomy , etc etc but the coloring method barely changed for me.
Then I decided to enter the GWGuru Halloween Competition. I wanted this one to be perfect. I got a lot of awesome help from you guys. Then I started staring at the pic..I thought something was missing...I asked her for critique:
Left side was my original 'finished' drawing. Right side she showed me her suggestions

Finished product of me following her tips (+ Nolani folks' Critique. I detailed the cat, I think it was Tommy who suggested that):
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...sies-181474776
After that she posted the tutorial I linked in this post. And I have followed that same method with the following artworks
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...Roam-187690735
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...oser-188771716
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...shed-189730684
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...F19199034&qo=2
pretty much every artwork after that bow wielding Ran drawing

I don't bother her a lot if you notice because I know she'd be really busy all the time. Only when I am stuck with something and feel like heading to a plateau. The last one I asked for her critique was the Ran drawing. Charlie gave me the awesome tip of following the human skull for guide. I was happy with the result. Then I just thought I'd ask her for further input. As it turned out, I missed some stuff and should've taken Charlie's advice further than I initially did:
My initial finished version:
http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/5268/ran001b.jpg
She told me that using the skull as a reference is a good and so that's where she based her critique from. She told me that the ear should be pulled back further and the muscle on the neck should be right behind the ear and move the nape a little more to the right. I did get compliments for the coloring and the way I drew the face

Death By An Arrow
The new updated piece is much better for the sword! the placing/angle of the hand and arm is really much better.

ooh, I'm totally watching her now!
Ravenhawk
not feeling well today but here's a progress. Still playing with the background colors..and not really sure about the sword yet as you can see >_>
Aeronwen
Raven, I hope you feel better soon. I am begining to think there is a Nolani bug going round ^^
I like the background as it is, perhaps it is a little bright on the top right. Thats an awesome pose.

Death By An Arrow
The background is looking great, is he going to have two different colours of light reflecting off him? Could be pretty cool :3
I think for the sword, it should come out towards us more. Dunno if it would look awkward with the hand, but I think thats what it needs.

Hehe, I'm feeling a little ill too. Definitely something going around.
Wow, the pose is just so dynamic, it looks awesome! I like that you're trying to branch out to more action-y poses, it works really well with your style. I'm also liking what you're doing with the background, the yellows and purples contrast with each other nicely. <3

Hope you feel better, Raven. The background is good, and using complimentary colors is a good way of getting the eye moving. As for the sword, I say you can tilt it a bit more, but keep that general angle. Looking at it from an angle is more interesting than from a straight on shot where the hand and sword completely block the upper arm.
Ravenhawk
Nolani bug? O_O
Thanks for the feedback so far ^^. Here's my progress ..I still hate the sword lol.
Anyhow, I am not done with it yet *got tons of detailing/smoothing out to do still*..now I realize that the character's costume is the same color scheme as the bg..not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I'll prolly keep it though since I like the war zone feel for this character because it suits his story/personality.

He looks so great so far, even without the detailing/smoothing! I think you've definitely got another sexy GW hunk here

Tommy's
Best face/pose/colors/motion of you so far in this piece I think
Looks good, very good.

Charlie Dayman
The colors and the pose look really good. Only thing I can point out is that the hand on the hilt looks a bit big in comparison to the rest of his body.
Ravenhawk
Thank you all *hug*. I tried to adjust the hand a little based from Charliepai's critic and here's the finished product (so far)

Yay thank you Gem. I updated the pic btw...and added more detail to the pouch and some lighting goodness.

Thistle suggested that I make a hunk series but I might draw Mina in the same battle scene somewhere (lol obviously she's no hunk. But I got one more hunk in the group since I already got Ran in a similar background 3 months before *feels silly*
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...Roam-187690735
...so it's either I am trying to cover up for my limited of background ideas or there's some higher force out there that wants me to draw them fighting in the same area. Well they are supposed to be in the same team fighting a certain group at some point in the story so this kinda makes sense.
/end babble
Will be working on Nian's Art Trade next *needs to draw female characters for a change.*

Perhaps the same background is telling you that you should enter the Landscape contest with that type of background?
And great job on drawing Vale! I really like the colour hues and the action in the pose. :3 Hehe, if I won't have time to do the hunk series, then perhaps you should? You are very good at drawing manly men.

And he was like.."I haven't really thought about it". So I was "..okay..I'll see what I can do". I've known the character for years anyway and that really helped me a lot esp with no facial references.
My indicator that I got the character right is the owner's reaction after seeing the finished drawing and my other guildmates' reply when they immediately said "It's a Vale!" when I showed them the pic lol.
