I hate to rain on your parade, but this really does absolutely NOTHING against the worst offenders. A hardcore botter can make enough ecto to buy 10 completely clean-slate accounts before his account is even looked at. Couple this with the fact that you can run 10+ bots on one computer, and you are fighting a battle that is impossible to win.
In reality, what these bans do is lose thousands of dedicated players. I'm not justifying botting in anyway, but this is like throwing jaywalkers in prison while there are murderers out there getting off scotch free. The example you gave of banning someone's obviously main account with 3000+ hours clearly shows that this is just a public relations stunt. He botted, and profited, but he is a jaywalker, and the negative impact he has on the economy and community is a drop in the bucket compared to the the murderers that are making big bucks off of botting. |
