Drunkard does take more time then sweet/party,but it still isn't a massive effort.

You can easily cover it while vanquishing/ect.,it isn't a huge deal.

With that said people shouldn't bot for it either,but your original post about the matter was a bit off..you can do the title in a short time if you have the money to support it.

if you pay for a game you should be allowed to do what you want with it so long as it doesnt impact anyone else. for example they mods that change skins. thats not part of the game but anet themselves have said they dont want to ban them

The very people it was designed to target (botters) are the ones most ticked off about it.

Kinda like when dishonor was implemented. People complaining about no longer being able to leave and rejoin RA matches until they got into a team with a monk... umm wut? Yeah, that's what dishonor was meant to stop.

Also, at the conspiracy theorists (shutting down the servers, ROLFLMAO). This is not the first time A.net has ever banned botters. They've done it numerous times in the past. I don't have numbers on me, but I don't even think 3,700 is that large compared to some of the bannings from a few years ago. Don't act shocked. This is not some unusual break from policy for them.

It's a bot, therefore it's bannable.

How about instead of arguing semantics you go take a break and do something productive?

james phinney stated that they "increased the number of people dealing with bots". does this mean that the /report command will actually be seriously considered now by support? because let me tell you that in the past, it has been near to complete useless to the point where it feels like i'm writing letters to santa claus that never get read.

Anet already mentioned what was acceptable in THIS thread and IN GAME. Anything NOT mentioned is subject to termination. This INCLUDES DRUNKARD BOT because it was NEVER EVER EVER mentioned as one of the acceptable 3rd party programs. Are you that dense or did you not get that message?

You'd be surprised to find out I'm not botting my drunkard title, but simply using a timer and taking care of it while playing, because I don't want my computer sitting idle that long without me making use of the electricity it's killing.

Thanks for taking your time on doing this, i have played for 5 years, got gwamm on my ele a year ago, starting botting less than a month ago, seeing how everyone was doing it and it seemed like no one gave a crap about this dieing game to police it. all 3 of my accounts got banned, not sure why the 3rd got banned, its factions only and just use it for a mule. but i had 7 stacks of ecto before botting and that is still all i had now, well gg, now I can get back to real life i guess

I'm just saying. Anet Killed High end pve/pvp with this bann. and why wouldnt they? GW1 is just costing them money. they are not gaining anything from it. why lose money if u can save money with killing gw. and sure pvp bots were nasty. but pve bots never really changed anything except for the low black/white dye prices

On PvE: I think what we are really seeing is a complete failure, on the part of ANet, to follow through with their statements. Guild Wars was the "no-grind" game. It then became a "grind" game. Since people who bought the game liked the idea of being at the same level as others without grind, they began to search for ways to shorten the "grind".

To compensate for this grind, ANet employees implied, multiple times, on community sites, that if you wanted to use a tool (macro) to make the grind (Drunkard) easy, go ahead. They also implied that using third party programs to alter your game would not be prosecuted. Since there were many other achievements in the game that required even more grind, some people took it a step further and used tools to cut down on the time required to do this. I'm not saying this is per EULA or "ok" but ANet lured people into the PvE aspect of the game by claiming the game was something that it turned out not to be. How can you expect the customers' behavior to be per your rules when you are changing the rules of the game, as they play?

Caveat: There were a few powerbotters who were probably banned, which I am fine with. See below in the PvP section... these people have the resources and the skill to start right back up again.

PvP: You suck as a person if you bot in PvP. I'm glad those people got banned. Although it would make more sense to actually take the initiative and make the game not so freaking easy to bot in. As many people have said, these botters have the in game money and account resources to continue. I don't expect the PvP botting issue to go away at all.

So, in conclusion, you have lost people who cared about the game and people who "bought in" to the way you initially advertised the game. These people won't come back. While doing so, you got a few powerbotters and some pvp botters. The people who do come back are the worst offenders. There's no way around that.

So let's do some good math here and find out what really happened here today:
Guild Wars = A Dying Game
Guild Wars = Power bots + People who like the game and occasionally botted to reduce grind + People who don't bot

Enter Anet
Anet takes the people who liked the game and occasionally used tools to reduce grind (or even tools to enhance the way the game looked (texmod, KSMod) out of the equation by banning them.
The power botters will be back.

Now:
Guild Wars = Power Botters + People who don't bot
A Dying game - people who cared about the game = A Dead Game
Guild Wars = A Dead Game

I think the banhammer in this instance could actually yield a tremendous secondary benefit. It would appear to create a large displaced player pool that an ambitious practitioner of consumer law could take up in a class action format aimed at that most questionable of legal documents, the EULA. I don't claim to be a student of Euro case law, but the impression that I've received is that European legal systems seem to hold general disregard for EULAs, maybe this could be the impetus for American consumer law to lay the banhammer on EULAs.

That's why there are Rules of Conduct. Rules of Conduct forbid the usage of ANY kind of bot. Skipping all you have to personally do to get a title and still being able to get it IS an unfair advantage over those who chose not to take the bot shortcut. There's no difference between the Drunkard bot and, say, the Raptor bot that provides unid golds for the Wisdom title.

People often forget that videogames are NOT exempt from rules just for being set in virtual environments. Expecially when those rules are so explicitly written in the End User Licence Agreement.

Seriously, being in law enforcement is what makes this thread so comical to me. Most of the people here are using the same excuses I hear thieves and meth addicts use on a daily basis.

If you got banned and you know you shouldn't have, file a report and do that NOW instead of taking the time to complain about whatever stuff you had.

I do have to bring up one question. I've recently been using TexMod in Cartography checks every so often, but not every time I log on GW. Should I be a little afraid that my account might get banned if I try loading TexMod again?

i agree partially; however, your not paying for a game in gw's case. your paying for a gw account to access gw servers, which is completely different. but in any case, you always have to follow and abide by the eula.

Question for Regina etc... Will there be a follow up announcement in a few weeks or possibly month or months releasing the pro-rated figures for the mass ban, based on reinstated accounts which were mistakenly banned? Don't get me wrong on the surface, this looks incredibly impressive, but NC support is not exactly a universally respected body.

I am in an alliance of PvE people who as a general rule don't bot, but every single person I've heard of who got banned either was an occasional botter for consumable titles, or used TexMod/KSMod and that was it. So...either they are going to be dicks and lock people out so their numbers look good, or A LOT of people are going to get their accounts back.

What I'm trying to point out to you is whether you are right or wrong about your point doesn't matter. If it is a bot, it is a bannable offense, whether it is good, bad or indifferent to the state of the game.
