Might want to blur those names out.........

Seems a bit off that Anet would ban someone just for using bad language. Unless they were bypassing the profanity filter. There has to be more to it than just that.

If that player was doing something against the rules, and got banned for it, then it isn't really Anet's fault. It's the player's fault. Can't blame Anet cause someone was breaking the rules and Anet did their job.

It was the player who ruined an entire MaT, not Anet.

lawl epic. I do so love their timing.

But really Lemming, it was that players fault for breaking the rules. They caused their own team this, not ANET. No one should get special treatment if they break the rules, even if they are in the MAT finals.

It would have been nice to ban him after, not in the middle of the game. I know, this should be kind of example, but still ..

I was in a GvG match way back in 2005, (when my guild did that sort of thing), and some of our opponents' names were really, really sick and disgusting. One of those names I'll never forget, it was so bad. And the language that they used was perfectly vile. They sucked at GvG and we whipped 'em in under 5 minutes, but it would have been nice if Dhuum was around to do his thing. We reported them the old fashioned way and they were never heard from again. The moral of the story: If you don't want to get your account banned, DON'T VIOLATE THE EULA.

Lolwut...?

For a second there I thought this was about another pool elitist's [this time smaller] cheating "revealed", like the time they did the mass bannings after they'd buffed a bunch of interrupts that supplied the interrupt bots for a while... until Dhuum started going to work!

About the ban, though: they had to have been cursing their heads off or violating the EULA in a MAJOR way to merit being banned right in the middle of a tourney! Both winning and trolling has become too important that it's taken the place of "good sportsmanship" entirely. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if GW chat during tourneys were exactly like reading up on 4chan or encyclopedia dramatica when you skim through the in-game chat logs.

eh idc if the player broke the EULA or not, dont penalize the team in the middle of a MAT. Do it after or before the match, not when however many people are watching it. There is a difference about doing your job and being an @$$.

Thats almost saying a bank robber who is in actuallity a big time football player playing in a final asking "hey can you arrest me after this match I dont want to be embaressed when xx amount of people are watching me".

You break with the rules you pay the consquences, not whenever its convenient for the perpetrator, simples.

The question is: How serious was the violation that it warranted a ban? Did an entire team sporting the names like Hitler, Charles Manson, Bundy, Al Quaeda, etc..troll people left & right, or something to that degree? Or did they have a vulgar Guild Name like Inside Gaile Grey's Va... [again]? Because things like that ARE show-stoppers. But none of this was the case, then I'm raising the BS flag on it!

Penalize the player, don't penalize the team. Ban him before or after the match so they can either get a replacement or it doesn't matter. Don't punish his guild by taking away their snare ele in the middle of the mAT final.

There hasn't been anything that severe but there have been times where athletes have been charged but they haven't had their court dates set until AFTER the season and postseason. Sadly there are exceptions made for those of "superstar" status. But that was pretty cool to see Dhuum pop up and smoke the guy in the middle of the MAT, even if it did kind of ruin it.

The main problem with the ban is that it decided the game. In any kind of sport, referees are there to guide the progress of the match, not to determine it, which is why star players are usually less prone to being called for fouls or ejected. This situation proved the exact opposite.

Also, any usage the match may have had as some kind of example is invalidated by it being taken off observer.

Completely agree. Is it that hard to ban someone after the game is over ... it's not like the game can last longer than 28 minutes anyway ...

I personally think nobody should be banned in a PvP match at all.

Everyone on that team was a willing participant to that player. They all agreed upon the same rules as he did, and if they didn't speak up or say anything, then they were condoning what that player was doing as a team.

That is their own fault for letting someone like that on their team. Thus, they have to pay the consequences for allowing that player to break the rules which they all agreed upon. That is completely fair and just.

That's like saying I can break all the rules I want during the game, even if it does give me an advantage over everyone. But you are not allowed to ban me till the game is over cause it is unfair to my team that I can't continue to keep breaking the rules.

You break the rules, you pay the price. Simple as that. There is no "I'm special cause I'm in a tournament so I can do whatever I want and they are not allowed to penalize me till after it is all over".

in Soccer you have to play with 10 men not 11 if someone is red carded and sent off. this is exactly the same thing. heck, anet even named the boss "Enadiz"(Zidane backwards) after a French player who was sent off for "Headbutting"(yes, the skill Headbutt is named after this incident) a player on the other team during the World Cup Final no less! The French then had to play with 10 men vs. 11 and they lost. I think it's safe to say that if it can happen in the World Cup which happens to be a notch or two up the importance ladder from a GW MaT, then the same thing can happen and should in GW.

It's not in the interests of giving anyone special privileges, it's the recognition that the best interests of the competition are served by not ruining your showcase matches.

It's as if the severity of the offense doesn't matter at all. You conveniently forgot to note that Zidane was provoked into headbutting Materazzi when the latter insulted the former's sister - which is very close to the offense that happened today.

In actuality Zidane later stated that he tottaly regreted letting Materazzi get to him and felt a great deal of guilt of letting his team mates down. If the player in the MaT final had any sort of moral compass he would feel the same way. He let his teamates and let himself down, he paid the price and so did his team in the end, I feel sorry for his team more then anything.

Comparing a World Cup final to a MaT final is sort of ludicrous though.

I would expect Wut to feel quite a bit of regret for ruining his guild's Saturday, too. That's not the point though.

Who's to say Anet was actually aware the player was in the middle of the final anyway. When support flips the switch to trigger a ban, are they supposed to check what the player is doing first?

It honestly depends what you mean by points, in terms of of pure competition I admit there is no difference, one team wants to beat another to win.

However a World Cup final for the winning team is not just a win for there team as you know its for there nation its once in a lifetime opportunity, not to mention the effect it has on the nation that wins it, theres a whole universe of a difference from this point and onwards.

After all in the grand scheme of things a MaT final is just a game, sure the players take it seriously and if there competitive why shouldent they? The bottom line is its not a world changer unlike when a team wins the World Cup final for themselves and for there nation.

World cup final country A vs. country B, during the match an official from country A interrupts the match claiming that country B has fielded an invalid player. Referee stops the match, examines the claims, finds it valid and forfeits country B. gg!

World cup final country A vs. country B, during the match an official from country A interrupts the match claiming that country B's players are cheating by taking banned drugs. Referee stops the match, gets everyone in country B to take a drug test, finds the claim invalid and resumes the match.

...

Of course nobody is saying the player who broke the rules shouldn't be banned, they're saying that the ban can wait until after the game finishes. Same like drug tests. Nobody pulls a player off the pitch during a game to do a drug test, jeez.

I disagree...what if...the player that broke the rules makes a game deciding play...should that still be allowed?.....no way...they shouldn't be there reguardless. They should be removed as soon as possible!
