Rune Farming - Ettin exploitation
jpsantos20
I don't see the point of bringing an interupt skill to be honest. I use Eviserate, Cyclone Axe, and Executioner's Strike, Penetrating Blow as my attack skills. Sprint for running, Balthazar's Spirit for adrenaline and energy charge up, Vigorous Spirit and Healing Breeze for health recharge. I'll try mending later instead of Vigorous Spirit and i'll see if that works. I have many of my skill into Tactics too but I will move them to Strength and leave enough to tactics to carry my shield which is 9 since Strength does give me more dmg. I will just have to wait and see just how much more dmg.

Amsterdam which Axe build you using btw?

I got a superior curses first drop after staying away for awhile. Lucky because I was making a SS necro at the very time. I was happy.

I don't know what you guys were saying about 55 monks being slow. I use a slightly modified build and kill groups of 6 in under a minute. The only tough part is getting past the Mesmers (and I've figured out a way to do that consistently) , the rest is cake.
Murder In China
Because Ettins usually don't spawn with 6 of them in one spot.

Pretty easy if you didn't die in one hit

I use the secret, ancient technique of pulling groups of 2 or 3 together which makes it faster to farm since I kill groups at a time not ettins at a time..

is to withstand against 8 ettins (with a warrior)

Sorry to steal your moment but, only a maximum of about 5, maybe 6 ettin can actually 'hit' you when they gather around you. The others are just in a queue .
Actually, with things like vamp mods/Vigorous/Vicarious the more around you make it 'easier' since you get more health back.
The fact that I can take on 10 easy with an elementalist shows that for a warrior this should be a breeze :P.

My record is 12 at once, and you can get them all to hit you if you shimmy shake a little and let them get at ya I believe, I know I have had more then 8 hitting me at once.

umm..not so much, savage slash has a MUCH longer recharge than healing signet does, so for every signet that you interrupt, they have another one coming RIGHT AWAY, personally, i BENEFIT from the signet, because i save my FT's for the signet, and power through it, and usually kill them while they're using it.

heres my build works nice
W/Me sever artery gash galrath slash final thrust hundred blades(E) physical resistance ether feast sprint swords 12+3 strength 8+1 tactics 7+1+1 inspiration 8 Across The Battle
Personally I use a riposite build, I forget what it is exactly but its pretty decent...never really have a problem taking on 3 or 4 or so in a couple minutes..
I think it goes something like this Hundred Blades Final Thrust Galgrash Slash(SP?) Sprint Dolyak Signet Heal Signet Riposite Deadly Riposite And something else.. Jas D
I use riposte for soloing a lot of things, it works great.. but I wouldn't use it for ettin farming, I use axes for that. They work better IMO.

them ettins havent dropped crap for me in a week... not even a lame blue..
everytime i startup GW ill goto beetletun and do a few quick runs to see if i get a gold and it hasnt happened.. only once did i get one. I know people r saying that they didnt nerf the ettins, but it sure seems like it. Young Hero
^ quick runs may not do it.Try staying out for 2hrs and you will get something.

yeh just did that and i got 2 purps and 2 blues...
Levi Garett
Just curious. Is killing an ettin every 20 seconds considered fast? Slow? Normal?
It's about what I average. P.S. I'm not using a warrior primary Young Hero

Well than visit the Rune Trader
darkraider53
This is my build that i made out of yours a bit (hehe) and it works great, maybe i just like it because i got sup vigor and major in the same run but here it is
w/mo Tactics:13(12+1) Healing:8 Strength:9(7+1+1) Swordsmanship:8(or ditch strength and put it to your sword req) Skills: Sprint Glads Def Bonettis Riposte Deadly Riposte Dolyak signet healing signet Mending (sorry if i copied anyone's build but i havnt read the whole thread) dolyaks is only there to prevent you from being knocked down by Irresistible Blow, which is really anoying when they use it with your stances up. just keep swinging and keep the ripostes up as often as possible. When you get to 5 energy or lower put up bonettis and rest. Pimp_My_Wheelchair
i have found a different way that works
MY BUILD : Stats: Healing = 8 Swordsmanship = 12 +runes Tactics = 7 +runes Skills: 1 :Sever Artery 2 :Gash 3 :Galrath Slash 4 :Final Thrust 5 :Bonettis Defense 6 :Healing Breeze 7 :Live Vicariously 8 :Mending Use Live Vicariously and Mending at beginning, fight and kill mergoyles and tengus, used bonettis to heal mana before u start first group of ettins. Lure 2-3 ettins at a time, any more and ur scrwed! Use skills in the order 1-2-3-4. If youre healther gets below 150, used healing breeze and run till it gets above 300. Then kill all ettins. The only downside to this build is, that whenever you use bonetti's Defense, you can be knocked down by the Ettins, even though its a little annoying, its not enough to kill you, so just keep on fighting. SPOILS OF MY FIRST 2 RUNS!!!!!!! 3 golds 3 purple 6 blue countless whites pretty good for just starting huh? Pimp_My_Wheelchair
and by killing all the mergoyles and tengu, iv gotten quite a few mods, which have made me around 4-5k per 3 runs
Frank Dudenstein
Ok - I must be missing something... I just did 5 runs ... and I got a 1 Purple and one blue rune. The ettins rarely drop ettins pauldrons, but mostly just drop junk.
Am I doing something wrong??? Revenant Reverend

Having 12 in your weapon is ALWAYS recommended, as per this wonderful article by Guild Wars Guru: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content...nics-id674.php Only thing is that it doesnt take the effects of skills into effect. A 16 Axe Mastery Evicerate is noticibley different than a 12 Axe Mastery Evicerate. So depending on what your build is focusing on, you might want to invest those points to boost your weapon of choice beyond 12. Young Hero
^ What do you mean "first two runs" This is a never ending run, stay out/regate between Nebo and NK Providence.Salvage all the white armor into tanned hides, drop all crap runes to make room for good stuff.Read the thread from page 1, there is more than enough info where any1 doing this should become wealthy/better equipped if you put in the WORK! Or if ya get lucky after only a few groups.
Undead Shadowknight

I'm echoing Young Hero here. It's just the luck of the draw, you can't get purples, let alone blues or golds all the time. volsungxiii
I'm not entirely sure whether or not ettin drops were officially nerfed, but recently, drops have been significantly bad for me. I don't farm there constantly, most of the time just about an hour's worth. And usually I visit my ettin friends every 3-4 days. So I'm not overfarming. Nevertheless, in a total run (1 hour's worth of farming), I MIGHT get 1 gold (usually major rune). I've pretty much stopped farming there.
Try FoW chest runs, with a decently-skilled group of wars, a quick run of about 8 minutes can yield a huge profit. In 1 run I got a gold, req 8 chaos axe, and a req 10 shadow blade. If you can sell these un-id, that's abut 70k in 8 minutes. Now this doesn't always happen, of course, and you may waste alot of gold in keys, but the chance to receive good stuff outweighs the risks. Plus these chest runs are pretty fun ^_^ King Kong
Ive been farming there about once a day, getting good drops as well! After all these weeks of playing im finally making some money for once! Anyway what would be the best sword (mods etc) to use? At the moment im using
Cruel Long Sword Slashing damage: 15-22 Damage +15% (while enchanted) Lengthens deep wound duration on foes by 33% This sword is killing them abit quicker than my last one, but it would be great if i could do it even quicker lol Might try an axe but i aint got any Elite skills for it :-( Thanks in advance for any help Tiela
I did drop a sup vigor and a sup prot yesterday (only one run) so, don't think it has been nerfed
King Kong, I'm using Victo's blade and with undred blades it's really good... King Kong

As you are probally aware there are many builds for ettin farming
i thought that my build is quite good so here it is. W/N attributes: death magic 10 strength 10 (minor rune and helmet) swordmanship 10 (minor rune) tactics 7 (minor rune) skills: sheild stance doylak signet virulance (E) healing signet distracting blow sever artery sprint gash Now the idea is that you first run past mergoyles and tengu and when u get to the etttins u first use sheild stance and doylak this way you take no damage and cant get knocked down, then when sever artery is ready use that then use virulance which starts bringing there health right down and also desieses any ettins around, now observe the ettins skills and when it starts to use healing signet use distracting blow this stops him healing, also keep using gash and sever atery on him and after about 20-40 secounds it should be dead then kill off other ettins in same way, also if health gets low then use healing signet. Im not sure about spelling on this but i hope this is a good build that others can use. This build has gained me sup absorb, vigor and many other expensive runes. hope you have enjoyed and plz post any comments on the build. Lord Omnipata
There are countless builds for this, and most of them work. The issue is how fast you can kill them. Time = money which has been said countless times.
Most people deal in groups of 3 ettins at a time. Shouldn't take longer than a minute to kill all 3 as a warrior or you're doing something wrong in my opinion. A lot of peeps can do it much faster than that. I do it with 5 attack skills - Cyc, Penet, Exec, Cleave, and the one that does dmg when you have more health, can't remember the name. Regardless, fill in as you wish. Remaining 3 slots consist of Sprint, Healing sig, and Dolyak's. Anything extra in healing or stances (dmg reduction) is a waste imo. You're cutting out attack skills by adding anything else in. Forget disrupts, waste of a slot imo. Use your attack skills to power through the healing. The guys that do it really quick never give the ettin a chance to use it's heal sig. If he uses it then it will take longer to kill him. Spike him hard enough and he'll never get the chance to heal. Anyway, nothing nobody else hasn't said before. I just see more and more builds posted that will work -- ettins aren't that hard to kill -- but the real question is how fast can you do a complete run? nathan_frd
