Well, there is a NPC swordswoman in the game which you initially run into by the statue of Balthazar named "Farrah Cappo", which I am sure is a play on "Capo Ferro". Your mission then was to protect her on her mission to slay a bandit.

You turn it into the kid by his dad in that little keep just shortly before you meet with the justiciar dude. Not sure if its the bonus or not, I only did it while farming drakes so I didnt see for myself.
Tomo
Yeah, once you give it to him the father offers to do you a favor some time, because hes a translator. the bonus on the quest is to translate obsidian text, or something(though i cant find the text ^^)
The character "mary malone" outside fort ranik in pre searing (gives the orchard quest-apples from the spiders etc) is also in the dark materials series.

I do not know if this was intended or not.
There is a mob called "Onan the Spiritless." Onan was a biblical figure who "cast his seed upon the ground." If I have to tell you what that means, you aren't old enough to know yet.
I found this funny, if a bit obscure.

Oink the warthog just looks like Timon from "The Lion King" and "Timon & Pumbaa".
Also the quest "Replacement Healers" reminded me of the movie "Replacement Killers"

Ehm the pig was Pumbaa
. And i thought about just that when i saw warthog npc the first time.

To do Orian's Text quest (with Oink the pig) when you leave the gates for the regular quest stick as left as left can be, you'll find a very well hidden path that leads down into a narrow fjord. Follow it back north (always stay left) and at the end you'll find a shipwreck and a chest. The text is in the chest and then you're good.
Run on back and claim your reward...

in pre-searing i was wandering around with gwen and came upon the guy who will take a rangers pet. i wasn't a ranger primary or secondary so i didn't have a pet, but he still offered to take my "little friend" or whatever he says.
i should try going back to him with a new character and see if he still says it, and see what happens if you take up his offer...
i would think that gwen would fetch a few platinum at least.

He's the way to replace your charmed pet as a Ranger - he doesn't pay you though. I'd really like it if he said he had a twin brother outside of Ascalon though, as it's a real pain to walk out to him.
BTW, Prince Rurik just claimed he's a 9th century Russian ruler who established a 700 year ruling dynasty, so there's another little factoid hidden in game.

"I thought it fitting, considering the rough terrain." Actually, Bonetti's Defence is a real rapier defence move. Every part of that fight in The Princess Bride and all the terms the two refer to are real. That's why it's such a great movie duel.
I'm not sure if the Guild Wars guys put it in there because it's a real move or because of the Princess Bride.
Cheers.

Man in Black: -- naturally -- but I find Thibault cancels out Capo Ferro, don't you? The references here are to Rocco Bonetti, Ridolfo Capo Ferro, and Girard Thibault, all real fencing masters from the late 16th and early 17th centuries.
But I'd bet money the devs were referencing The Princess Bride. My respect for that movie just went up several notches...

i just found this out today, and i swear i wasn't looking on purpose, but when you run into cynn in the shiverpeak mountains if you set the camera right you can see through her skirt, and she's got a thong on.
out of curiosity i went and checked all of the elementalist costumes for pvp, and no thongs. i guess with a name like cynn they had to give her extra naughty undies.

[Edit: Well, what do you know.. ;P Cynn in pre-searing Ascalon wears a thong, too.]
In other news, I'm delighted to be able to contribute my own goodies.
During the first Ascension mission (Dunes of Despair), if you spam-click on the Hero while he's at the Altar, he'll eventually say these two lines:

They're hosted on photobucket, so try not to spam too much.

The.. only way I've found to see Cynn's thong is to.. kind of clip into her?.. and angle the camera in first-person so that it's facing her lower-parts?..
Yeah. It's pretty pathetic. I'm a dork. ;P
I just had to see for myself, though.
If you do it at the right distance at the right angle, you'll see it.
Too far away, you'll see dress. Too close in, you'll see her empty hollow insides.
Nothing spectacular. But it's still amusing to see that the artists went so far as to model Cynn in underwear. ;D

prehaps you need the tattered girl's cape in addition to that, which you find walking from Sanctum Cay to Fishman's Haven...

- The merchant in Ring of Fire's name, backwards, is "King Jake"
- Eve [Cultist Henchman] wears naughties too >.>
- This one might not be an easter egg, but am I the only person who is convinced there are some facial likenesses in the game? For example...
Ghostly Hero = Al Borland from Home Improvement.
and...
Aidan = Tommy Lee Jones?!
Little Thom = Super Mario!

I'm not sure if this is an obscure reference or just a coincidence, but I guess there is a boss named Hail Blackice in Spearhead Peak. In the book "Cavern of Black Ice", one of the antagonist's was sometimes referred to as the Hail Wolf (I think his first name was Hail, but I can't find the book at the moment). I'm pretty sure he was skilled with a hammer in the book.
