Oh, we're looking at approx 17 more minutes as of this post. Of course, I'm not holding my breath. This will either go one of three ways, ordered from least likely to most likely.

3rd most likely: It's already fixed, and they're just waiting to launch at 11:30 eastern

2nd most likely: Somehow they perfectly guessed the time at which they would just be finishing the roll-back. Hmm...in fact, this is probably the 3rd most likely. Regardless..

Most likely: They misjudged the repair time by 3 hours and we'll be back on tomorrow sometime.

All as anxious as the next to get back on.

I hope you all realise this is an estimated time. It could be tomorrow that the servers come up, or even the next day.

Oh, I'm being totally sadistic to my poor little Sims. You know, finding new and interesting ways to kill them. But I did do something vaguely constructive: I had a vampire couple adopt an alien baby.

I probably should buy the latest x-pack for Sims 2, but why should I when I should be saving my money for Factions CE?

Nope, not up yet (as of 11:17pm eastern).

Another 13 minutes to go.

Honestly, I feel silly sitting and waiting, but I had just gotten to Grotto after fighting my way there through the massive chunk of murssats with some henchies to purchase my 15k druid armor... to find out it was all going kaput. So now I'm waiting to log in so I can complete the purchase and commence with playing with dye again.... weeee...

Exploit? Wow now, go learn stuff about computers and servers. This was a bug, a glitch. To go to a trader and buy something isn't an exploit.

This kind of thing has happened before, and ANet chose wisely to choose the community. The economy was fine, it smoothed out. It would do the same this time. The rollback is a very bad call.

I wonder how many will boycott Factions because of this?

Several of my guildies may lose some very nice greens that needed, that being Malinon's Shield, Rago's Flame Staff and others. It's not fair to anyone in the community for ANet favor the economy. That causes a lose-lose situation. If they left it alone, just like last time; it would stabilize.

But in all honesty, good job on ANet for the rollback. (Wish I could say the same for the male Assassin dance... Yeah I know, off topic, but still. )

But know that if we did not handle this, and did not conduct a roll-back, everyone would be the loser. Everyone would suffer irreparable harm, because the items that have value would be devalued. The economy would be damaged, perhaps to the point where it would never recover.

So, without being unsympathetic about any individual's loss, I do feel that, given the alternatives, handling this with a roll-back means that it's a short-term loss for some, but a long-term gain for all.
I'm sorry. I'm lost in all this. How does the rollback affect anyone either way? I thought it was said this game was about skill, not items? Rollback or no rollback, I don't think it really matters..

Um, I hate to break the news to your intelligence but, using a glitch or a bug to your advantage is an exploit, always has been and always will be. A roll-back is the quickest, sure fire route to restoring the world state. While I struggle to write this without a quirky remark and since you know best I hope that you and all your friends boycott Factions. Simply becuase we surely don't need people in the game that are intrested in ruining the fun of others by systematiclly pushing items out of the reach of other players. It is apparent to me that a number of players fail to see the complexity of the reasons for a roll back in this case and instead of taking the time to actually understand the dynamics they just rattle off what they know best, a complaint about something they fail to understand.

I couldn't care less if they rolled back a month, its a game, if it takes me more time to hobble the stuff I had back together so what ?

A Puzzle only remains fun as long as it is not solved ! -

First off don't blame the people that expoited the bug. Even if they hadn't they would have needed to roll back to fix the bug. Secondly Don't bad mought the PvE people, I have had to sit through some pretty long PvP updates as well. Thirdly A-Net has done a fine job handling this in timely fashion and I'm very glad they didn't reset the servers a day later that would have been a much worse mess.

Due to a server error, Guild Wars experienced an unintentional reset of the traders. For nearly an hour, traders were selling items at unrealistically low prices. Due to the harmful impact that such an event would cause to the game economy, we are rolling back the entire state of the game to shortly before the problem began, that is, to 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time, 21:00 GMT. We estimate that the game will be accessible at approximately 11:00 p.m. PST tonight (07:00 GMT).
Updated to be 2.5 hours later than the original posted time

1st of all it wont. if there are zillion shards out there, the economy will crash.
basic economy 101.

2nd. yes will all lose prob some items or cash. may it be. 50k here to other maybe 500k...well thats life. w/o the rollback EVERYTHING in GW would have no value. again its a closed system, u cant just bring in 1,0000000000 shards and think it will be fine.

Supply and demand. Though the trader supply will be out, players will have it and there will still be drops. People will pay prices, and if it's too steep they won't sell. As they get used it goes back to the trader. When the people who are charging too much for the runes cannot make sales, they will drop their prices. From there they will make sales and the economy will begin to stabilize. It's really very simplistic. Also, people who mass-purchased may also give away several runes since they were dirt cheap.

Perfect example: Look at Kepkhet's Refuge. When it was new it was 60-75k, now it goes for 5-20k. Given time the economy smoothes itself out.

It happened before with black dyes too.
