Stupid forge runners!
Ryoushi
I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS.
Recently I got my second character Natsume Mononoke to Beacon's Perch. The first time I got there ever, with my ranger, everyone was saying something akin to "LFG-Kryta!" or something similar. Now EVERYONE and I mean nearly EVERYONE in the district was searching for a forge runner. Basically, someone who could run them all the way down through Lornar's Pass, bajillions of miles away, to Droknar's Forge.
The thing is, this makes people like me that play through the entire game fairly feel cheated. I've spent nearly 130 hours getting Ryoushi to where he is now at Thunderhead Keep, and yet some noob can get there in under half the time because he has lots of money to pay a runner?
ANet, you guys really should do something about this. Maybe limit Lornar's to level 20s only, I don't know.

If people want to lower their playing fun by being ran all the way to Droknar, it's fine by me. When I see non-ascended people in the first mission of the lower Shiverpeaks (the name always escapes me) I just laugh, as no one will invite a lvl 15 for the mission.
They are also missing out in getting skills, and weapons, and such.
EDIT:
I don't know why people buy this game just so they can be run to the end, and miss all of the fun of the middle. It isn't all that much of an accomplishment to beat the game at lvl 15, other than the fact that your team mates must be good to win with one less person

Well see, the "noobs" that can pay, 99% of the time, have another character that they've already beat the game with. That's why they have the money. It is not that they are stupid, but they want a rush to Droknar's to get the best armor and some good skills unlocked for PvP. I have never done a Droknar's rush, but I find it irritating that people think those people are "noobs" for doing it. They just don't want to play through the story multiple times. Give them a break.
The Human Torch
The reason they do this is so they can skip through the rest of the game, which they've already done on another character. Can you blame them for not wanting to repeat the same boring story line?
Shandoo Bilari
Dont spend so much time worrying about what other people do, they will suck at thier class not having spent the time to learn the intricacies like you have.
Tactical-Dillusions
A friend of mine wanted me to run him and his friend through to Droknars. I told him no and he should play the game as it should be played.
It's his first character too.
It's his first character too.
Red Locust
If anything, I'd want to run to amnoon oasis and get my 50k exp. What good is 1.5k armor if I'm still level 10.

Here's what someone needs to explain to me.
It lessens your enjoyment? Why? is there some kind of bar in your window with a maximum enjoyment level, and everytime someone rushes to Droknar's, that bar goes down by 5%, so eventually you can have no further enjoyment?
Why do people always insist that in a game, what someone else does and which IN NO WAY affects them directly, somehow interferes with how much fun they are having?
Also, the "Well, some players can afford it, and others can't" argument is stupid. I know of a GREAT rusher who charges 5K. If you don't have 5K by the time you've reached Beacon's Perch, you need to stop buying so many runes
FYI, I have TWO characters in Droknar's who reached it legitimately (well, only one now, I killed the other one). Both of them slogged their way through Kryta over the course of more than a week of play. Personally, I don't think Kryta is much fun, and the thought of having to grind through all those undead again with my W just wasn't all that appealing. Also, I wanted a char with whom I could scout the whole map, and I needed better armor for him.
So, I paid a guy to rush me to Droknar's.
I've been there twice before. I have (had) two Ascended characters (now just one).
I'm never playing with any of you, most likely, and if I am, I'm the guy in front keeping the rest of you from getting ganked by all the critters.
So how am I robbing you of your enjoyment?
Btw, on the subject of rushing. The rusher took a group of six of us there. We asked him what we needed to do, and he said "Just try to follow me as long as you can".
That rushing part was some of the most fun I've had in the game in quite awhile. While most of my "teammates" / fellow taxi passengers dropped within seconds, I actually managed to run past quite a few of the nastiest chokepoints, following our rusher.
I eventually died because I had to leave him alone if he rested somewhere in a convenient area, and so I'd get ganked, but I sure got pretty damn far for my level 15 char.
It actually takes quite a bit of skill to rush to Droknar's. Yes, with the right skills it can be done, but even so it's not guaranteed, as evidenced by our rusher dying the first time we tried it (fortunately still in Lornar's, so we could start over), and there were several very close calls he had (where he was down to about 30 or so%).
He didn't scam, he charged in increments, and for me, it was a very fun 45 minutes, watching him with the chase cam, evading and darting through hordes of nigh unbeatable critters.
Again, it doesn't take away anything from YOUR game. There are millions of characters that go through ascension normally. There are probably 1000 or so that chose to rush because they've already walked the normal way.
In no way does it affect you, and in no way should you complain that it somehow "lessens your achievement".
Rushing is a good way for people who've already Ascended once to get some better skills / armor quicker. It's also a fun experience to do.
Please stop asking for more nerfs over some perceived slight done to you. If Anet keeps going at their current pace, this game is going to be more nerfed than Diablo 2 ever was, and will we then all be happy? Let's just nerf everything while we're at it. No more loot drops, no more money, no more damage from monsters, no more skills, and no more character classes.
Everyone plays a W/Me/Mo/R/Ne/El with a 1dmg weapon and 5 energy. Nobody has money. There, at least we're all on the same footing, and we can all enjoy each other.
Edit : Oh, and after I got my armor and some skills, I went back to Kryta, and am still slogging through it, just with slightly less aggravation this time. It was also a lot of fun to walk through Dragon's Gullet and finally getting to see that part of the map.
I'm not skipping anything, as it'd be stupid to try to take a lvl 16 W through the Northern Shiverpeaks missions, and I wouldn't saddle a team with my useless ass there. I'll make my way there again eventually, and might even finish the game with this char.
Again, I fail to see how this affects anyone. And for those who say "Well, it ruins their (the rushee) enjoyment", that's a fallacious argument as well. I'm enjoying it, and I thought it was fun. Last time I checked, *I* was in charge of my fun, not you

Well I tried to go to droknar's when I was about level 17 with my w/me and I have to say; if there is a group of 6 under level 20 that are able to make it they deserve it! How does someone making it to droknar's effect you???? I don't see this as being a problem. I wasn't able to make it.... With a group of 6 with a pet... we made it oh, halfway through lonars pass.

I, for one, am appalled by the association between "stupid" and "forge runners". It is unjustified calling them stupid because the original poster cannot bend the will of the runners. In fact, I find that the courage for standing up and refuse to suck up the boring repetiveness in GW extremely commendable.

I second Creston's comments.
I had my lvl 12 monk rushed to Droknar's for 3K. Is that really that HUGE amount of money? No, not for me, but to the enterprising warrior that took the 5 of us it was 15k made over a 30minute period. A good legitimate business that is an alternate farming. It was the best 3K I ever spent, and looking back I would of payed more. We cheered on our Bus driver as he dodged and swerved with the prowess of a half back.
It is not cheating, because there is an obvious clear path to follow. That is not exploiting the game in anyway. Maybe the devs intended this? Because after all there is a trail leading from one to the other. It takes skill, and the right skill set in order to be able to run. It is like a taxi or bus service. Have you ever taken a bus or taxi? Did people call you a cheater for taking a cab across town instead of walking? I highly doubt it.
You know what I did? After I purchased my good armor, I went back to Beacons Perch and continued with the storylined quest. For the area I am at I am an uber monk, because I can tank, and take the damge that the lower monsters are dealing.
In the long run it saves you a considerable amount of money. Instead of me having to buy a new armor upgrade at every other town, I now have the highest defense armor available. I can now save that money I would of otherwise spent on other armor sets to try and keep myself alive as the game progressed.
This is not my first character mind you, and in doing this my Pleasure Meter is a lot higher. I can now play the game with less fear of dying, and instead of barely making it by the skin of my teeth. I enjoy meandering about the country side. I have found many new lower level areas that I had not found before because I just want to get thru the missions, to get better stuff, just so I could survive a little better.
For those of you that might like to try this. Be wary of bus drivers that ask for the money up front, and stiff your driver.

It is advantageous to get to Droknars from Beacons to purchase end game armor.
At that point they can continue forward with the story line or skip it entirely if they are tired of it.
I see no problem with it really. It is quite difficult, even for level 20's.

Glad to see common sense prevailing so far in this thread.
Forge running is awesome and should be left alone until someone can explain how it affects the game for anyone but the runners. Being uptight is not a good enough reason.

the only way I can see that forge running affects the game, is that you see more people asking for runs to the next town, which would clog up the chat window, but this isn't all that serious of a problem.

Ah, now the end-game armor, THAT'S the double-edged sword, so to speak. Generally assuming that most people that run Lornars' are running through the game for the 2nd (or 3rd or whatever) time and using it to get the end-game armor and a couple of extra skills/spells to make leveling easier in PvE, that's one thing. It's the people that want so badly to be "leet" and use that end-game armor in the newbie PvP arenas that start the problems.
Weapons and skills are one thing, most of the end-game weapons can be bought as early as Ascalon City if you have the p, but they still require reqs that you wouldn't tend to meet at the lower-levels, skills are pretty much the same (not in needing reqs, but you might not necessarily be 100% potent with the spell since you won't have the att pts to throw into it to make it totally effective either). The end-game armor though, is highly unbalancing for lower-end arena PvP, or don't you think that the extra 20-30 AC bonus doesn't matter, especially at low level?
Possible solution: make reqs for the armor (especially end-game), requiring at least level 16 to wear, since by that time you'd be in the 16-20 arenas anyways. But that's just IMO

Any of the non level 20 PvP areas are really just to get your feet wet before you start team arena, tombs and GvG. As such I don't think it's a big deal if someone really feels the need to buy themselves level 20 armor then go back to the lowbie arenas and stomp on people. If you happen to be the victim of stomping just move along and realize that the real PvP doesn't start till you're level 20.
As for people being run down to droknars forge .... who the hell cares?!?!?! Does it effect your gaming experience in any way? Are you really so petty and shallow that you must force everyone else to do exactly what you did to gain any satisfaction out of playing the game? If the only reason you have fun playing GW is because you want to brag to everyone how much more time you spent grinding then you're playing the wrong game.
Most people that are getting themselves run to Droknars have already beat the game. Probably more than once. Probably more than twice. I think the fact that people even have to get run to Droknars just goes to show how broken the game is. Anygame where you have to play the story mode 3 times over just to be able to participate in the "multiplayer" part of the game has some issues.
Can you imagine if you were playing Starcraft, or Warcraft or any RTS game and you play through the entire compaign/story mode, get excited over connecting to battlenet and playing some multiplayer matches and the game tells you "sorry, your only available unit is the zergling until you beat the campaign 2 more times". That's basically what guild wars is at this point. Just replace campaign with PvE and multiplayer with PvP.
Anything people do to try and gain full access to the PvP portion of the game in as quick a timeframe as possible is fine by me.

I have no problem with runners or players being run but I do have a big problem with people going back to low level arena's with characters in Droknar's armor.
You can't kill an average player in Drok armor if you're a level 8 in Ascalon. I mean you could sit there with your 8-14 sword pounding on a monk for an hour and he'll be able to heal himself.
The absolutely ruins the purpose of the under 10 arena.
The rest of it, I don't care about. It's their own game and I don't mind them skipping it any more than I'd mind them taking a pen and writing "I Won" all over their game boxes. It doesn't affect anyone else so why worry about it.
If they go to Drak and back to Ascalon then they're cheating scum in my opinion and cowards and bully's. Go to an appropriate arena to fight and find challenge and let the lower levels have their fun.

"Agreed all these arenas along the way mean nothing towards rank or anything like that so i don't se the problem really"
They're meant for F U N. I know this is knew concept for hardcore PvPers , but some people just want to test their character against others of comparable level. Their skill choice is far from perfect, so it's a chance to try it out without risk of losing anything. But here comes the guy with end game armor, who you can't even scratch - did I mention he picked up some weapons along the way? The kind you wouldn't find *yet* playing normally? It's *so* fun playing against someone who you can't beat. Sure, *if* your skill set is made *exactly* to counter him, you might succeed - but it's unlikely.

I like this, it makes me chuckle.
So, you are angry because someone has better armor than you, and is able to beat you because of it?
First off low lvl PvP is like the Fischer-Price of PvP. If you are so upset because someone is beating you because they have better armor, go get some better armor. It is not like it is some unattainable thing reserved for the godly. Armor becomes almost irrelevant in HoH or GvG, because the amount of damage that is being thrown around, and everyone is wearing the same thing pretty much. You do not gain anything from the arenas, except the experience of play. So, from you learned experience of play you learned that better armor wins!
What you are essentially saying is. That it is not fair because someone beat you, and because you wanted to beat them.
Armor and weapons are simply tools. They assist you, but they do not do the job without you.
Some people want to n00b bash. That is fine it is like hazing, or initiation. Something younger generations have not experienced as much of, because of censorship and political correctness. If you don't like being n00b bashed then don't enter in low lvl PvP arenas with pre-searing armor and expect to win.

I believe the running will be nerfed: the devs made clear that the competitive part in this game is to get 3 characters through the story without commiting suicide. Everything that is a way around the "intended" progression is an exploit or at least an oversight that will be fixed soon.
Honestly, if you think that these people are "cheating" then welcome, you found your new home, grind wars. Dont mind the whiners over there who keep shouting about "skill>time" and such nonesense. They will leave after next weeks updates.

Uh Beacons perch to Droknars is "intended" proggression, other wise why would they have put a portal there?
From what I have seen so far if you wanted to you could run all the way from Ascalon to Droknars without doing any missions. It will take you a hell of a long time though. The farthest I have ran though is from Ascalon to Nolani Academy.
Learning ways to advance a character quickly takes just as much skill as playing the "Grind", because it takes a knowledge of the game obtained from a lot of play and observation of mechanics.
It is a free world, to move about in as you please. I do not see any programmers out side your house making it so you have to go to the post office before you are allowed to gain access to the grocery store.

I've won 25+ in a row 3 times when I was in Ascalon on my first character with gear I picked up on my own. If you think I'm complaining because I'm losing you're as stupid as I think you are, which is hard to imagine.
Anyone that goes back to Ascalon with Drak armor is looking for an easy win.
Can you deny this? No of course not. I'm not fighting in Ascalon because it's a low level arena, I'll never fight in Ascalon again. Does that mean I think it's right for others to cheat, and if you're in Drak armor in Ascalon arena you are cheating, No and that's all I'm saying.
You say that Ascalon arena doesn't matter, that's fine with me. It doesn't matter so you, and all the other people that think it's ok to ruin the game for others stay away if it doesn't matter.
Your posts make me think that you've done this, or other things like this, that cause others grief to gain a little bit of self respect.

Winning in low lvl PvP is for people to get a taste of PvP. Congrats on your 25+ wins in low lvl PvP. Being dominate at low lvl PvP is like being the tallest midget, who really cares. Have you seen that Sprite commercial yet? With the guys playing on a console and the puppet goes "congradulations on your no prize winning win."

Okay.
There are griefers who use farming to unbalance the economy. So every form of farming must be made impossible, and all skills that aid in farming must be nerfed.
There are griefers that abuse player to player trade. let's get rid of the trade window, all trade must go through NPC traders.
There are griefers in Elona, in Dunes and in River. These three missions must be disabled.
See what I'm saying? How MANY people have gone back to Ascalon with their Droknar's armor? Five? Ten? Out of, what, a million characters?
If it keeps happening, eventually people will stop playing in the Ascalon arena because of the griefers, and will move on to Yak's bend, by which time skills will be able to take out the advantage of the armor. If some idiot walks around in those arenas, have a mesmer slow him continuously. This is the type of player who uses aimbots and other crap in FPS deathmatch too, if you annoy him without facing him, he'll be gone inside of five minutes.
Just slow him and run circles around him. He'll leave in no time.
Closing Lornar's pass because 0.000000000001% of players use it as a way to feel Godly in the n00b arena is retarded. In the end, that arena means nothing, there's nothing attached to it. I understand that it's not fun to face off against the loser with his Drok's armor, so leave the mission and go back in, you'll be teamed up with someone else / against someone else.
If that doesn't do it, go to the Yak's arena, I doubt the griefers will be there, since there's too much danger a lvl 10 mesmer will simply gank them, and that's the last thing they want.
STOP ASKING FOR NERFS PLEASE.

Honestly, if you think that these people are "cheating" then welcome, you found your new home, grind wars. Dont mind the whiners over there who keep shouting about "skill>time" and such nonesense. They will leave after next weeks updates. |
where is it written that you have to move 3 characters along the storyline and not deviate?????
that is one of the most absurd comments i have seen posted here

Did I say shut off Lornars ever in any post anywhere?
I love Lornars pass, it was the first challenge for me in the game. I made it through when I was 17 by fighting in a group that was dedicated.
You have no morals if you fight in Drak armor in the Ascalon arena, that's all I'm saying. Don't try and add anything when you quote me. I'll stand by my quotes because I don't lie and I don't hide behind technicalities like, "the game allows it."
You are willing to cheat and grief others and think that it's fine as long as the game allows you to. That shows an extreme lack of character.
That doesn't mean that Lornar's should be closed. I hope they don't close it because of a few moral midgets who can't win in the real arenas so they take advantage of lower levels.

Ehhh, hello, kindly stop making assumptions. thank you.
I've stated quite specifically that I DO NOT use armor for griefing lower level arenas, and in fact, I've given specific options what you can do to idiots who do that. Try to read a bit further than the first two words. I got my armor because I'm bored with slogging my way through Kryta. End.
What I'm saying is that removing the ability to rush to Droknar's just because there are a RARE FEW griefers in the Ascalon arena is ridiculous, because if we start thinking along that line, we might as well just nerf the entire game.

My comment wasn't really directed at you Creston.
I responded to someone's assumption that I was for closing off Lornars. I clearly am not for that.
I apologize if it seemed that my post was directed at you, it wasn't.
It was directed at people who think it's ok to get Drak armor and go back to the Ascalon arena in their Drak armor for easy wins.

Okay, upon further consideration of this matter, it was really stupid of me to suggest ANet should nerf it, but I do think it is a kind of balancing issue. Also, I should clear things up that the big problem I have with it is first-timers doing it. I can perfectly understand doing it for kicks on your next three times through.

I have never tried the run, or asked anyone to do it for me because I want to go through the whole game with my characters. However, Its not up to anyone to decide if it lessens the enjoyment for those who chose to use the run. After-all thats YOUR opinion, not theirs. Also, if the developers didnt want people doing the run...they wouldnt have put the passage there. Finally, I have seen lvl 13-16 characters floating around the forge, but they never get groups and they wont last long out there solo, theyt havent ascended so they wont see the Mursaat killing them in them in the missions will they? With all that said just be like good little New Yorkers and mind your own business...

who cares if they got further, they will still need to go through the game to get skill points... i hate whn forge runners take yor gemz too, even after you let them have your rune...
