Thats why added the smiley face behind the grow up. Seriously people these days take things way to seriously and one of them is online gamming. If you cant handle insults to your online characters then wtfs gonna happen in real life?

Eyahl, I agree with your last post 100%. When I play my various characters (Me/Mo, Mo/R, R/W, W/Me), they are all me to one extent or another. I speak through them to those with whom I am gaming. GW is -not- an RPG. When I want to be someone else, I run off to my favorite persistent world for Neverwinter Nights. There I might choose to be a pirate that, in fact, does run around insulting other -characters-.

Therein lies the difference: GW is NOT an RPG so when one is flamed by others, it is the character's OWNER that is being insulted. In an RPG or MMORPG, one character insults another character, not the character's owner.

Honestly how the hell do you people handle insults in real life?

But it is a real place. It's at everyone's computer. It's not a dream. It's not a make believe place that only happens in my mind. It's real enough to know, if you are a sane, mature person, that insults still carry weight to some people even in an online situation.

Insults in game are about you because your character is your representation in that game world. You're not calling an AI/NPC names... you're talking to a breathing human being at the other end of the 'net. Insults are still real world things, even when online.

The way you should have said that is, "HellRaiser doesn't care about anyone in an online world"... That's the only thing you've said, over and over and over again.

Fact: You have no right to ruin someone elses experience, be it life, game or any other type of experience. There is no such unalienable right. And only the shallow-minded or completely immature would think so.

The actual "game" aspect is not being talked about. If you kill someone in PvP, and /dance, that's not a real problem. It's when someone online runs around making racist comments, extremely rude comments. or verbally attacking you that it becomes a problem. When you insult someone through a game, or through any other means of communication, just because you cannot see them doesn't mean you aren't insulting them.

When I am in guild wars, I do some roleplaying. Hell, my monk is running around Droknar's in nothing but his underwear (cold ). But I have never, will never, and never will want to insult someone anywhere. Ever. Because that is simply common decency. If you can't comprehend that, I am terribly sorry.

Ignoring the obvious poster I'd just like to state the fact that Online gaming IS real life. For some people it's a hobbie, for some it's even a way to make real money. For many like myself it's not a way to escape reality, it's a computer game I like to have fun with.

What some people seem not to realise, and I don't know if it's because they were brought up in a skip or by trolls or lived on the streets or something, but MOST of us don't actually happen to tolerate being insulted. I myself don't really make a habit of getting insulted, after all why SHOULD I be? There is nothing about me that requires an insult. It's just because some sad people wish to insult me that it ever happens.

Playing a computer game is a part of real life. Hands up who would tolerate being insulted via email or in a chat room. I don't see why a Multiplayer game gives people the excuse to be rude.

Why do people want to be rude and insult each other anyway? If you ask me, THEY need to switch off their computers and go vent their frustration somewhere else.

I cannot believe the attitude that so many people that play massively multiplayer games have adopted these days. They say things like oh come on it's just a game after they rip you off for a certain item. if you yourself have this attitude then the loss the other person that takes this game seriously feels will far outweigh any temporary benefit you may recieve. I myself have come across favorable circumstances when it comes to this game, I have yet to cheat or be cheated. Just as there are fencing competitions and martial art competitions in real life, no one takes offence if you participate in an equally consensual match and they die. When you are rude to someone or promise them something and then renegg on your word that is when people take offense. A young teen killed himself when someone stole his everquest file courtesy of a third party program. A man was murdered when he refused to return someones golden sword after borrowing it in Guild Wars. So just remember that which you call a game is of great importance to many people. Be considerate as I myself would hate to hear of another such tragedy.

The online person, i dont know you in real life. If i call you a noob in game im not calling you a noob in real life. I dont even know who the hell you are and if you take offence to it then your playing online games way to much.

You could say the same thing about a book. Oh, it's just a bunch of paper, ink, and glue. Yet books can communicate ideas the same as speaking an idea to a person's face. The same goes for online communication.
