[MERGED] New Storage Options for Guild Wars

New Storage Options for Guild Wars
Players who own Factions will soon be given a new form of storage through the Xunlai Agent. This new tab on the storage account will allow you to store up to 250 of each type of material or crafting supply in the game, both common and rare. So as you acquire items, you can put them into the Xunlai vault and keep your regular storage space clear for armor, weapons, and special holiday items. The first tab on the Xunlai interface is where your items are stored; it has 20 slots. The second tab is the new vault where you put all your materials and crafting supplies, such as bones, shells, and other such things.

The following is a Mini-FAQ that will answer your questions about the new storage options. Who has access to the new storage vault? Anyone who owns Factions can access this expanded storage by interacting with the Xunlai Agents in most towns and outposts. What is offered with the Xunlai Agent enhancements? The Materials Vault is accessed via a new tab your personal Xunlai Agent [Storage] Vault. The first tab is the standard 20-slot Items Vault. The second (new) tab opens the Materials Vault, which holds both common and rare materials and crafting supplies. The Materials Vault has a defined slot for every form of supply or material in the game. So when you open it, you see a space for bones, another for wooden planks, a third for kappa shells, etc. How many spaces are offered with the new storage? You will have one space for every type of material – common and rare – in the game. This means there are a total of 34 slots, specified by the name of the material. How do I use it? To access your new storage, interact with the Xunlai Agent. (If you do not have a storage account, pay 50 gold to acquire a permanent storage vault.) After your personal vault is opened, use the interface keys or drag and drop the item(s) into the open vault. If you are storing materials or supplies, then be sure that the Materials Vault is opened; otherwise, the item(s) will be placed in the primary Items Vault. What if I put the items into the wrong vault? You can drag and drop from one vault to another by sliding the item from the Items Vault and releasing it over the tab for the Materials Vault. You can do the opposite to move items from the Materials into the Items Vault. What happens if I try to put supply or crafting items beyond the 250 ceiling into the vault? The supplies or materials will remain in your inventory, unless you choose to place them in your original 20-slot Item Storage Vvault. How do I use the Materials Vault? Use the Materials Vault just as you use your Items Vault: Enable the vault and remove those items from storage that you need in your transaction. For instance, if you are crafting armor, gather the specific types of crafting materials from your vault, craft the armor, and then place the remaining materials back in your vault, in either the 20-slot Items Vault or the Materials Vault. Is there a charge for the Materials Vault? Will the Xunlai Agent ask for another fee? There is no additional cost for storage in either real-world or game world currency. When will the Materials Vault become available on my Factions account? We anticipate that this addition will be made to the game within the next few weeks. We will announce the arrival of this feature via the Message of the Day, which you see when you log into the game. |

It'll help, oh and Blackrose, I think I was first but I had a brain fart and put it in Q&A by accident, oh well. This will be helpful, hopefully we'll get more storage, for other items in the future.

Anet... please please please include dyes in this.......
It's a complete pain swapping toons just to stack dye.....

Great news, the increased storage will be very helpful!
Clone
Not bad, but I'd still like more all purpose storage. For me, sutff like kappa shells go straight to the merchant NPC, and normal materials are sold off in bundles of 10 sooner or later...
Rahl
Awesome!
But how is this supposed to help me? I have 1k+ of each material :/

And here come all the complaints that it is only for those that own Factions.

HOORAY!! Finally some of the whine-we-want-more-storage-now-or-else-ill-ragequit posts will start to disappear....

A good start to fixing the storage problem. Now for the armor tab....
nohooiam
i don't think the material vault is what everyone was calling for.
Justafyme
I had to give up on crafting materials a long time ago...wish it worked for dye/ holiday items and other things as well. Maybe in due time. I'm sure this has made a lot of people happy though, so gg anet.

Yay! Another way for Anet to ditch Phophecies and make users buy Factions!
Yay!

Good Start.

my current storage inventory: keys, weapons, armor

It's a start... Would be nice if you could hold multiple stacks of materials as some people have...
But its a start... Will reduce my use of my storage account for holding guild matierals. =/

I hate to say it, but for the most part, this is useless.
Usually, you sell off Crafting Material to the trader once you are full (and if you don't need armor)...

its factions only because they need ppl to buy factions.

I'm not complaining, but I would like to second Lyra's comment. Armor tab FTW.
Parson Brown
Glad they did SOMETHING.
This certainly will help. Even if you keep multiple stacks of materials, this is still 34 more slots.
Nothing to sneeze at.

Excellent. Too bad I sold my few Monstrous Eyes and Fangs yesterday to make room...
Unlucky Slayer
The problem with the people having multiple stacks is that the material storage only holds one stack of each material so the extra stacks that you would have for whatever reason would still be taking up your other storage spots...
To make it better would be to make it so you could at least hold the amount needed in the 15k armors or maybe 2 stacks of each, since 2 stacks of materials is more than enough.

I'm still happy there is some progress

An armor tab would be nice too. A key ring as well. Maybe even something for my dye collection. We gotta start somewhere though, and this alone will free up at least 15 item slots on my mule.
Thanks Anet.
Thanks Anet.

Good, now more Tyrian Hardores will have to force themselves to decide on buying Factions for storage alone^^.
An Armour tab eh... looks like chapter three is in the runnings^^

It's 34 more slots but anyone know the reason why they're not generic material slots?
Does anet really care if you collect 10,000 wood or bone?
Are they worried about storing 3000 shards or ecto?
Is it a programming thing? or are they intentially limiting it?
Any ideas?

It should Ariana, as there is only one storage account for both prophecies and factions characters.
Dauntless
I hate complaining, and I am glad they are taking a step in the right direction, but couldn't this have been general storage? I mean I only have materials when I need them for armor, other than that I don't keep them. On the other hand, my mule is full of green's that I would rather dump into storage instead of materials which I have none of anyway.
Anyway I'm glad this will help some players, I just wish they would make it truly useful for all.

I don't need space to hold materials..i need space to hold all my armor/weapons/countless holiday items... :-/
Having a 34-slot storage space for some things I will rarely use (honestly, Kappa shells?????) over a 20-slot storage space that I can hold anything in...that should be the one that gets expanded.

SaucE
Well now I wont have a character with full bags of materials. I usually sell them off once I get a full stack.
Mountain Man
Why only for Factions? That's a bit sucky as this would be useful for all Guild Wars players.
Psykewne
there is a little part of me that wants to throw alot of abuse at anet as adding slots that can hold 250 of only a specific material seems redundant when they could have just added universal slots instead... why limit your choice?
Unlucky Slayer
Would be much more useful as general storage as people have said. And I'm with Lasher, I dont collect ecto or shards either... Hell I havent been UW or FoW in months...
audra
People are so used to GWs absolutely crappy storage options, even useless updates like this one will make them happy.
We need more storage space for WEAPONS and ARMOR not for cheap stuff you can buy in any city.

I collect materials, because I just cant get the high amounts of money like some people can. If I can get the materials I need for free, that means I only have to get the money to pay for the armor or weapon not the materials for it.
Granted this is a pretty redundant update, but its something... It could easily be improved and made better for everyone, but its something...

golem bigstick
oh great.... i have like 3 differents types of materials, but 1250 of each... yeah this will help me a ton.
seriously they should reconsider making this storage for all materials and not just specific spots. then i could delete my materials mule.

This is exactly NOT what is needed.
It will help everyone alittle for sure - a few more slots is always good, but it won't solve the problem about how storage works in GW at all !!
The most important issue is that most playable characters have to carry some materials into missions with them just to salvage things and increase these stacks a little, but they also have to carry all the armor sets and weapons with them so they have little to no space to pick up things.
What is really needed is storage for things you DON'T want to carry with you everytime - all the armor sets and weapons (possibly customized) And there is a need for storing event items somewhere - there's huge variety of them and they take just as much space as materials.
This new solution will cause additional problems, for example by driving prices of many rare materials up, as now most people dont keep a couple Linen or Damasks or something else and just merch them, and after this update everyone will be able to keep every rare material he finds. This can screw the material economy and it probably will.

Also, it may not be a coincidence that the max qty of any item we can have in storage is 250, and a byte, the basic piece of computer data transmission is maxed at a value of 255. Anything higher than 255 takes more than one byte to transmit. Just something to ponder before you flame ANet for not giving us whatever we ask for, or think we should have.
Also, for those of you thinking this is 34 extra slots... Well, it might be, but it depends on if you happen to store everything that there is a slot for. I don't plan on storing kappa shells, for instance, and I assume there will be a number of other things that I won't store either. But, from the solution provided by ANet, I am convinced that they did what they could, while still keeping all of our best interest in mind. That is the long-term playability of the game.
