The Biggest Jerk You Ever Encountered in GW (no posting names)
Kago Seirei
I've met plenty of jerks, being me of course. But there was one imparticular who was a jerk to me, who didn't know who I was, it was sorta' outta the blue. I got a new account, and made a character by the name of Rose Thorn, which my friend recommended to me. Apparently, this name used to be taken by someone else who did something bad, but soon after I created her. I get this whisper saying "How could you do that to her?" I'm like "What did I do? Who're you?" They're like "You know what you did and who I am." I'm sitting there with a blank "Uhm, I think you have me mistaken for someone else, I just made this char." Blahblah has ignored you. -.-'''

i've seen numerous threads on this. generally the plan is to Unyielding Aura them and drop it as soon as the asshattery begins again.
course if you don't bring Aura (i know i don't) then leaving them for dead is fine.
personally i would simply have ignored him. let him be a jerk. he'll get his punishment someday. and it will be a lot more serious punishment than not being ressed in a game.

I was doing infusion + mission once with some guildies and we invited some players to join us...of course we got the trademark W/Mo that you always hear about on this forum. As soon as we entered mission he told us "ok you just follow me and do as I say and everything will be ok"
He then runs off and starts aggroing everything in sight and dies, we rez him and let him know what a great job he is doing and he takes off again and aggroes some more dieing again...so our monk (has a very short temper)..gives him the lecture about not wasting our time and staying with the group, the guild players in the party were in a voice conference in yahoo messenger...so our self appointed leader runs ahead and dies and the monk on voice says "watch this"...we see the warrior get rezzed and then we hear "OMFG some NOOB cast vengeance on me!!!11!"...suffice to say we were laughing to hard to reply and 30 seconds later he dropped in mid stride, he then said he would play properly if we rezzed him, which we did and everytime he did something stupid our monk would cast vengeance on him and we would laugh at him. I guess we were jerks...especially when he asked why we keep casting vengeance on him and monk said "it makes us laugh".
PS don't ask me why monk was carrying vengeance...maybe he had a premonition.

The thing is that, like children, people will never learn to either 1) behave themselves; or 2) -how- to play the game unless they are taught. If you had res'd and healed him and he had kept on the way he was, he has learned nothing. We're supposed to learn from our mistakes, not just keep making them.
If you were even-handed in the way you spoke to him, trying to make a point from which he could actually learn, then you were not a jerk. If you were rude and condescending and took yourself to his level, well...then the moniker might fit.

You were fully in your rights to leave him. You gave him a chance to work with the team. You even put up with with his verbal abuse. He was asking for it. So don't feel bad at all.
But......
I have been in a few situations that the Monk decides to control the party. Being as it is very hard to find a Monk for COOP missions, some make the game less enjoyable by saying things like: "I'll only go if you do X,Y, & Z on the mission.", "The Necro MUST be a battery to charge me, otherwise I'm leaving.", The elementalist MUST bring skills X,Y, &Z, or I'm out!". Or while in the mission, after already agreeing to do bonus, "Skip bonus or I'm leaving!".
It's just the attitude of almighty divine favor that bugs me. Do it his way or ELSE!
Oh well, /rant off

Ah, there's a big correlation between morons and jerks. A lot of jerks are that way simply because they're just not smart enough to grasp certain things so they act like a jerk simply because they don't know they're acting like a jerk... or they act that way to cover up something stupid they've done.
It's like in one instance where some Monk called me a noob runner because I would keep moving out of his Balth's Aura and Zealot's Fire. So was he a moron or a jerk? I have no idea... I'm guessing both.

i remember once i was visiting hero's audience to switch my R/Me back to R/Mo...i was wearing my 15k druid's armor when i notice that a multi-colored monk (male avatar) starts stalking me wherever i go. i PM him, asking him why he's following me.
...silence....
so i ask him to stop following me (it was seriously creeping me out). more silence, so i hurriedly switch over to comp arenas to finish my build.
these guys creep me out. suffice to say, that's the reason why i wear drok's studded leather...
another story dealing with the skimpiness of my 15k druids:
i was playing in comp arenas and managed to find a good, balanced group. i noticed that the mes on our team was following me wherever i went. i ignored this and continued sticking arrows into the enemy casters....
he eventually died. i used my signet to res him, and he said, "thanks babe"
i thought for a moment, then ignored it. we won the match and loaded up the next map. he said something derogatory about my armor...something along the lines of "you're so hot and sexy...i want to **** you so hard". so, i promptly told him to **** off...he said "lol when you say that i just get hornier". our team lost that round, so he decided to say "thanks babe maybe you can strip for me later".
i got disgusted and put him on my ignore list.
i wonder how he'd feel if he realized he was hitting on a male?
(this wasn't really a jerk story, but it was annoying nonetheless...)

heist, about the guy following you… it would probably annoy the crap out of me too.
However, I hate to say it, armor is still a novelty to some. So many times, I’ll be on TS with my guildies and someone will see some kickass 15k/Fissure/well-dyed armor in a city and we’ll all want to see it too and go running over, sometimes following the person to get a good look. I’m sure if they are paying attention it would creep them out to see a whole party of guildies running after them. (And I’m also sure, if they asked us to get lost, we probably would!)

Well I recently had my account suspended because this guy got mad at me for kicking him out of my guild reported me for offensive behavior. Now I can't play for a week. BTW if anyone can help me out with this problem please tell me how I can fix this.

maybe that guy was trying to get a good look at my armor, but due to the lack of clothing on the 15k druid's i doubt it was just to get a look at the armor.
and that still doesn't excuse what that other guy did to me....*shudders*

Thanks to all who replied to me, I felt I was justifed as I had not started by being a jerk at all. In fact the only people that I am immediately jerks with are people who bring elites/droks and other shit that doesnt belong in the ascalon/shiverpeak arenas and then talk about what great players/how talented they are.... those I dont mind lowering the boom on. (so to speak)
I try not to be a jerk though, we're all here to have fun right?
Someone raised the interesting question of wether or not monks are natural leaders. I'll be the first to say not always. I like to think i'm a fairly capable Monk as i've been playing that class longer than any, and my monk has the skills for monk/mesmer/warrior and necro unlocked. But I've not actually done much in SF yet, so when I go there I'll not try to lead, just try to keep them apprised on my energy status, leaving the leading for folks who've been there before. I'll try to lead where I've been if i'm not feeling lazy
I dont think there are natural leader classes, but maybe natural leader players. Theoretically at least, any class could lead a PUG if the player knows what they are about. In practice, I've given up trying to lead any group thru any mission as my Mesmer or Ranger primaries, those classes just get no respect from the noobs.

lol i found some jerks in War Camp last night.
Usually I have Local Chat off since I can't stand all the LFG, WANT A RUNNER, WTS, WTB spam. But I saw someone near me say something about 'noob' so I turned it on.
Him and someone else were arguing about axe max dmg.
Jerk 1 kept repeating things along the lines of: HAHA JERK 2 THINKS MAX AXE DMG IS 16 - 28!!! HOW MANY NOOBS CAN TELL HIM MAX AXE DMG?!!!1
Jerk 2 keeps repeating things along the lines of: OMG STFU YOU NOOB. NO ONE CARES
After about 5 mins, just before I'm gonna leave to go to GF, I pipe up with "How many noobs actually want to listen to these two morons arguing about axe damage?" and left.

I see no reason for tolerating rude behavior. I often suggest to people acting rudely to leave the quest or mission and map back to town. I mean, I have done a lot of quests and missions with less than a full party due to leavers or lags, so why not do the same by asking an idiot to go?

I agree with everybody who's said the biggest jerks are the people who instantly spam you with "noob / nub / nooblet" if you don't agree with them or don't give them what they want.
It use to piss me off at first, but then I realised that these people are probably like the guy in this video, and therefore it's them who have the problem.
On our guild forum we actually have a thread similar to this called "The Amadán (Idiot) List", where people name and shame idiots they've come across. Makes for a good read, all gulid forums should have one!

In Random Pugs with at least2-3 warriors I bring Dodge
For the reason you have mentioned above.
lol
I shouldn't have to bring runnings skills tocatch up to stupid warriors but either way Dodge let's me not only *get to* those aforementioned stupid warriors to heal them (thus preventing verbal whiplash)
But I can also run away to save the group with Rebirth in PvE.

I also find that ppl who can't take friendly tips and insight are complete jerks that are *way* overly defensive and snap at anything they perceive as a threat.

funny, but sad, I'd suspect theres more in this game like this guy than anyone suspects.
Also interesting to me is that hes a FPS pvp player... go figure.
And I got kicked from TGH forums for suggesting that FPS can be a little "out there" and arent looking for the same kind of game as the RPG players...
Interesting.

doing thirsty river (helpin a friend out). We've got a solid group, very capable. We get the 10% bonus and beat the first priest than one of the warriors grabs the ghost and runs to start of mission and goes afk (still talkin to him). We waited and waited, no reply and he didn't move.
Dont usually get into arguments, there's just no point. But ya this was pretty stupid of the guy.

Hes playing halo 2. Insanity. That guy is insane in the membrane. Like honestly. Look how he shows up the TV though by lightly slapping it and barely shaking it. I mean seriously... Once in a while i get pissed off and maybe throw a controller if I'm playing PS2 but... never like that. No repeated screaming involved. Ive broken a PS2 controller once, playing god of war, challenge of the gods... sooo haaard. After like an hour i just threw the controller on the ground and broke the R2 button or something but there was no tourettes-style anger involved LOL!

I myself have had a few jerk experiences.
1.) Ok im doing elone reach in a PUG with my mo/ele. Now im not the greatest monk ever but im decent. I use a +12 energy focus and i had a nice sword that i was using at the time because i could not find any decently pricerd wands. One guy in my party aggros everything and when i dont have the power to heal 7 other people at the same time he dies. he freaks out because i use a sword. I explaine to him i only use it for the upgrades and i dont attack with it. Well he quits and thats that.
2.) Not really a single jerk story but an attitude people have. If your level 16 and you want to pvp where do you go? Why lions arch of course. But people have a fit if you're not level 20. I can understand that you might be a disadvantage but come on its not like were doing the HoH. If we lose so what? People freak out and tell me to make a PvP character. Well i dont want to. PvE and PvP are mixed for a reason people. If Anet wanted them to be seperate they would have made it that way.

Either way, you hurt your team just by being there.

ooh, another jerk story. i was getting a run to thirsty river, and we decided to follow the runner (we were pretty far away). the one ranger, who was lvl 7, seemed decent enough at the beginning of the run....but he tried to charm a dune lizard. charm animal takes 7 seconds....and he got caught in the wake of all the attracted mobs. i was near in front of him (maybe about 100-200 ft ingame) after i died. he decides to blame the fact that he died before he could get charm animal off on me.
jerk: WTF stupid *my PC's name here* you ugly
me: huh?
jerk: stfu you dumbass i bet you ugly in real life
me: you're complaining about something that's not my fault...who's the stupid one?
jerk: stfu ugly dumbass
me: complaining about a dune lizard....(sigh to myself)
another player who was in our party helped me out and bashed the moron pretty good. he shut up fast enough.
why must this game be populated with morons?! (rhetoric)

Well, unfortunately, the jerks outnumber the the nice people, and here is what I base this on:
Somehow, it is a bad thing to be a new player in this game; hence the derogatory n00b, and all of its derivatives. In games such as GW, the lifeblood of keeping the whole thing viable is a steady influx of new players. When this game ceases to be profitable for AN, you can bet that support for it will dry up as well, and eventually they will just shut it down.
While AN made a valiant effort to prevent griefers, mankind just seems to invent worse griefers.
To be fair, this is one of the most enjoyable threads I have ever read on any board. I have had some really good laughs. But the culture that is developing in this game is certain to doom it.
You guys are shooting yourselves in the foot, imo.

Going back a moment to the beggar issue.
I had a fun solution to that in EQ.
I had a 58th lvl monk when the cap was 60, he was a melee god. I'd see the beggar saying things like "does anyone have anything they can give me?"
Now, that is the height of lazy begging, couldn't even do the homework to decide what to beg for.
Usually I'd tell said noob beggar that he could see a list of the things I had to give away by targeting me and typing /d for "details".
Of course, former eq addicts like myself know that /d really means "challenge to duel to the death." Most of the time I just let them run screaming but if they were particularly offensive I'd splatter them with a single punch.
Jerk move I know, but I cant stand beggars. In my own defense I was a total champion of the hardworking noob and quite often used my extraordinary abilities to resolve issues of real noobs getting pushed around by real jerks. One of my favorite moments like that was when My GF (a 58 druid) and I were chillin in town and we heard a ruckus of some arseholes about our lvl beating up on noobs pointlessly in a pvp arena nearby and not allowing them to get thier stuff back. She laid all kinda big fat buffs on me and with my magic resistance set of jewelry on and a couple of spare "no sticks" in my inventory those sorry saps (2 wizards and a Paladin) never knew what hit them Well, they did, 'cause I told them, but long story short the noobs were able to go back to enjoying beatin on each other without interference again.
