Server Speed Feedback Needed
=HT=Ingram
BTW: Friday August 10th 1:49 am PST phenomenal Server speed. Best its been in months... Nothing but love for yall...

All I can say about the speed of guildwarsguru is that it sucks. More often than not I get error messages such as IE can not display (timeout) or database errors. It has gotten to the point where a trip to guildwarsguru is a pain. I rarely come here anymore. I was very surprised that I did not time out this time, but it still took too long for the pages to load.
The auctions are nice, when they work, which is rarely. The forums are great, if you can get into them (which is about as often as rolling two sixs on two six sided dice).
Overall since the membership thing started, guru has become an almost useless link. It is now 0047Hrs MDT (GMT -7), this is the only time of day where I normally can get onto this site. From the lack of new content, I can easly tell that I am not the only one.
If this is caused by the ad server, it is way past time to upgrade it or clean up the scripts.
For me, guildwarsguru has become a visit rarely, get frustrated by POS. I want the old guru back, at least then it was only the auctions that were buggy.

Guildwarsguru IT needs to do something about the speed of this site, epically the forum. Its too slow. Too much lag. Many time, the site is down.

I got to say guys, the last 14 days have been the fastest I have had on guru EVER... Its running fantastic for me. I don't know what yall did recently but its a HUGE HUGE improvement at least for me.... I still get an occasional hang up. but its VERY VERY rare now... and I can edit my posts quickly and post on multi threads in multi tabs in a matter of seconds now... Previously it was lots longer...
I just wanted to say whatever you guys did in prep for Gwen traffic you knew is always plentiful when new campaign/expansion/addition get added to the game. you did a great job.
Thanks again...

You're accessing the site at midnight and later, when 90% of the users are asleep
When I hit the forums from work during the day they're terribaed. Usually I open threads in background tabs in firefox so I can do something else for a minute or two while they load.

Okay, now this is only tentative information, but in about 2 weeks time... you can expect to see a lil' bit of downtime and some huge improvements. And that's all I'll say for now until I can get firm confirmation then we'll post more information.

I have insider knowledge slip me an 'e' and I'll sort you out
Anyways..works ok, no major issues.

Speed has been getting on my nerves. Its been slow 85% of the time for me since i began coming on here. Today was the last straw. I had to find a topic the addresses it and here it is.
I made 2 seperate posts today. Or tried to I should say. I lost everything that I typed and not about to redo it. I guess the community has to copy everything before hitting post reply.
If this site is going to dictate the market like it has you have got to speed it up. I'm just annoiyed right now...

Possibly slowest website ive ever been on, been browsing here for 2 years and its always been this bad as far as i can remember.
The actual auction part is unusable.
I have to use the forums to sell stuff as its faster.

Add my vote for new servers ! I have a 6 mbit connection and sometimes it can take up to 2 mins to load a page, or it doesn't load at all. Now and then it does run smoothly tho, around like 4 in the morning MTN time...

I have noticed a big improvement in the forum bandwidth since the last time I was here (maybe a year ago?). Congratulations! But that wasn't the problem. The Auction page has been the worst-performing and possibly the busiest part of the guru site, and you can tell the bandwidth has never been compensated to reflect that. There's so much traffic going through that site, not only from America but world-wide... and after 2 years (aic?) of usage this has still not been addressed. Why? Is it money? RL? Site disinterest? Guru is the only GW auction site worth noting on the internet because of its sheer member size. It was here first. Many of us have quit using Guru long ago out of frustration, only to find that there IS no other place to go to sell/buy stuff besides ingame. And really, that's ANet's fault (why they are blatantly ripping off facets of WoW, and of all things decided on a Party Search window for trading rather than a true auction house is beyond anyone's comprehension).
Like someone said above, we understand Guru Auction is a free service and we appreciate it. However, when it times out 99% of the time and people quit using it, it is no longer a "service" to people. What is the point of having the site up to begin with if you can't handle the traffic? And again, I am only talking about the Auctions because it has been the only part of the website that has never had its bandwidth requirements met.
Some people say that they have less problems with the auction site than others. This is fine, and I am pleased to hear of the fortunate. However, they speak for a small percentage of the people who use it. Bandwidth should be addressed to handle peak hours. Period. I am not going to scroll through pages of this forum thread to see if this has already been said, but I feel the need to say it now because there have been responses within this latest page which hint otherwise. That's probably due to people like me who don't want to wait forever to scan subjects in past threads, so who can blame them?
I sincerely hope this can be resolved, and that the Auctions page will become a crucial tool for GW merchants once again. It's up to the community to make up for what the software developers lack in design, and, after all, it is our voice that makes a difference. I love what this site offers. I don't want to see it out of commission any longer. If there is anything I can do to help guru out in any way, just send me a message. Thanks for reading!

Read about 5 posts up Daedaluus. We have new servers (gasp! no you didn't hear that from me!!! NOOOO!) they are currently being set up with software being installed and tested on them.
Lord Feathers
I see the answer to the question I was about to ask already I'm assuming that things are being moved, upgraded, and played with at the current time ? Any date and time when this will be set ?
Inde
Nope, no date set firm yet Lord Feathers. Most likely, it will be quick and I'll only announce a few hours before we are set to go down.
Ghryphon
Sometimes I run into some serious delays, and its offline, but during the mornings like now its about a 1-2 second load time which is super fast.
A few weeks ago it was going offline in the evenings, or with insane load times.
Things are definantly getting a ton better though, thanks for all the changes/making things better.

Thanks for the "firm confirmation" Inde! The 5 posts up post I had read, but it didn't really give me hope. Confirming you do have new servers being tested puts a spring in my step! I look forward to seeing GwG revitalized and playing the part it deserves to serve in the marketplace. =) Cheers!

we will move by the end of the month, we have a deadline

Breath of fresh air.
So much better.
Congratulations and well done to the webmaster or whoever sorts the server out, top job.

Micromaster
Love the new speed!

I'm glad you upgraded the server capacity. GWGuru forums work like a charm now. Nice work!

I'm at work and see that the site has been back up since yesterday, but at home I still get the "we are changing servers..." What do I do to get back on?
Longasc
Definite improvement.
It is really super smooth and fast, sometimes it still hangs a bit. But it is now really as it should be, there were times where I (euro user) could simply not load any guru page before. Thumbs up!
The auction page is still lacking speed though.
Any ideas if an improved search feature will/can be implemented now that server speed has greatly improved?

Fast as lightning for me. Used to be very slow when it was busy, but now everything loads instantly.
Thank you for the new servers Cobalt
Wow blazing fast!
Before I could click to open a thread and go get a soda and be back in time to see it finish loading. Now I don't have time to blink! Exterminate all
Wow! I love the new server. I think this will bring more people to guru. I know I stopped using it for a while because of the load times. Now I will visit it often.
Great job guru! Fungus Amongus
Cooking. Finally.

Wow, now this was an awesome surprise! I've never experienced the site this fast and responsive before. Congratulations to all!

Me too. I have noticed a drastic increase in speed. Thank you!
eloc_jcg
I have always found this site quite slow. Most likely from all the people using it.
