the "database error" are driving me insane.

No, it's because the GW Servers were down. All the fansites were having problems, including the official site. It was just the mass amount of users.
veryl mikagoh
yeah just wanna say that, the site loads verry long when you press 'home' again.
realy enoying because everything slows down big time :/
maybe i have to do a new xp install, its been a while ^^

Hmmm, I'm not experiencing this problem. Is anyone else?
Also, let me know what browser you are using veryl.

This was because the Guild Wars servers went down yesterday. The users flooded all the Guild Wars fansites and they all were having problems. This includes the official site.

Are the server attacks still continuing? I've noticed every now and then I still get the standard IE error page to do with DNS/page not found. Sometimes it comes up with microsoft's MSN search page We can't find "www.guildwarsguru.com". I try a few times/force refresh and same problem.
This doesn't happen with other websites so it seems peculiar to gwg?
I'm using IE6 Service Pack 1 if that's any help.

IE7 is out by the way.
Xenrath
I don't think it's the browser version I'm using, besides which it's probably not a good idea to upgrade to IE7 for the same reason it wasn't (and in cases still isn't) a good idea to get XP Service Pack 2... not enough testing/bug removal done on it, and probably too much bespoke stuff in it.
thelessa
I don't use IE unless I HAVE to. I use FireFox, Opera or Netscape
kzap
Hi Xenrath, what times does this happen? the server was going down at a certain time every day due to a log rotation script but that should be fixed now. In windows, Run: command.com then at the prompt type tracert www.guildwarsguru.com and see where it stops

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I can't remember when this happened now - my connection at home has been dead since last Thursday so I can't check... if I recally it was before 5pm GMT sometime; if it happens again I'll do a traceroute and post here. Hopefully my home connection will be working again soon.
Old Dood
I haven't seen that happen in over a week. I was not letting me in around 6am EST for about a week....then it went away.

The forums are nice and quick for me, but the auctions area is runs at the break-neck speed of a dead turtle. Along with long load times, I get a lot of "white pages." This is especially frustrating when bidding/buying items.
Inde
Interesting... haven't heard of problems like this recently besides throwing some errors. Thanks for the heads up. There's a new update coming soon to the auctions so I'll be sure to add this to the list.
Wrath Of Dragons
The whole site is seeming about as slow as it used to be on a busy day before the server was changed. Current time: 11:25 AM. guildwarsGuru time.
Not whining, just trying to help you catch problems right away
Edit: posting is fast, and im not getting database errors. Its just the opening of pages, including the homepage that is really slow

Yeah, I'm seeing it too. Load is fine, could be the ad server. I'll let you know what I find out.
Rayne Nightfyre
Just to provide additional feedback, as stated right now the server is exceptionally slow (It's about 3:05 EST, and has been like this for at least 1-2 hours). It takes a long time to load any selected thread, click on any link, and pretty much any action. This may have something to do with it, but here's a shot I took showing what the ads look like above.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.
Tarun
Extremely slow here and has been for the past few hours. All ads are blocked by my firewall; therefore not even downloading or transmitting any data to my computer.
Wrath Of Dragons
seems fixed now @4:03 gwguru time
Inde
Yeah, problem was fixed, some javascript that was loading.
kzap
and fixed so it wont happen again, our other server was down so it was trying to load a javascript which wasnt working and just slowed down the page load
Lasher Dragon
Is the adserver acting up again? I have slow load times across the board, and always with a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" ad.
NinjaMonkey
If you want to avoid the adserver lag issue, just use Opera or FireFox, both of them continue loading the entire page even if that small ad on the top is failing. [while IE simply hangs until adserver responds]
Personally, i use IE for everyday browsing.. but when i see sites that use external ad sources with horrible delayes - i just switch to opera for that particular site.

Looking into the issues right now.
Lord Iowerth
it's just under IE, and it is the adserver causing the lag in page loads. FF loads fine, as it should, and i'm still loading this same page in an IE browser as I type this message.
BakedMonkey
page is loading slow, the ads are dead..its been like this for me for how long? lemme see..more than 10 hours D=
=HT=Ingram

All right, I've gone ahead and disable the ad code right now until we can get it fixed. Forums should run faster.
Swampgirl Inez
I was getting lots of database errors yesterday and some this morning. It's also very slow loading this morning for me.

An update for everyone, we now have 4 powerhouse servers running the Guru sites, so were working on consilidating them into the best possible setup.
Riplox
What they need to do is to limit or disable forum viewing for guests. Posting is a member only action and I feel that viewing should be as well. There are over 75,000 registered members for this site alone, so it's not like it would be detrimental to the site's well being, and it would significantly improve the it's performance. It really shouldn't be that dificult to do.
Inde
Riplox, that is something we will not do. Browsing the forums is a benefit for the community and I will not force someone to sign up just to view content.
Wrath Of Dragons
Just to let you know, thisng are going very slow this morning(10:59 gwg time)
also, usually the auctions seem independant of the forums but today both are loading very slowly/not at all.
