Ok scroll to the bottom.. now look at the amount of people online atm.. now ask the admins what the bandwidth is and maybe that might be a large cause..

Im frustrated to the point that I dont even want to post any more(I know boo hoo), but god forbid you might want to edit a post, if it works at all that is. This site has more bugs and problems, it has become just an annoyance, and aggravation sorry, thats how I feel. Itll weork fine for a day, or a half a day, and then lock, lock, lock, up all the time. People contacting about auctions I closed, me buying items that dont exist anymore(cause the seller closed the auction). Its kinda frustrating, especially when for the most part the mods say the site is operating smoothly, welll maybe when theres 500 people browsing at 4:00am but midday forget it.
I just made a quick post, and wanted to edit it, well I think I posted at about 3:30(did one quick edit, and wanted to add something else), still havent been able to edit the post, thats over an hour to try to edit a post, coming to this site has just become an exercise in frustration that I dont really need. Things dont seem to get better for more than a few hours at a time. People dont complain about it becasue they cannot be bothered to try to post, not every one has 1 or 2 hours to post a 'site feedback', me Im hard headed, I dont give up easily, but Ive been wore down by this battle. Good luck Guru.
Get a better server or more headroom or something. Please do something, I hate having only one site to get opinions and keep up with the latest GWNews.

They just upgraded their servers a few weeks back. I am sure there were specs made to anticipate growth and usage statistics when they planned the new hardware. I hardly suspect that with these new machines, barring configuration errors can't handle the previous load with some new users. We have not seen exponential growth on the boards in that short a time, so again, that is likely not the problem.

I am a moderator on a forum that has far more users than this and we have some of the same problems, but it is not because of number of active connections. It is either due to DoS attacks, or database problems or configuration errors.

Also the version of vBulletin can be problematic. There have been some real problems with vBulletin in regards to speed and db query/retrieval. But my input here is, while more informed than yours, not really important.

The admins are aware of the problem, know the system and working to resolve it. Let's let them do that so we can all go back to starting multiple threads about the same thing (which btw, can also be a problem. Save the server...use the search button!)

It "Seems" all these lag problems really started when the Auction started a few months back.

Is that a fair estimate? I was having problems as well in the middle of the day til late afternoon. Eastern Standard time.

I know you all are working feverishly on this...so I am not flaming or complaining...only asking questions.

No, it's not the auction. And if you think you are even half as frustrated as those of us trying to contain the problem then you are mistaken Sents This latest spike is something we are dealing with but you know... servers cost money. We are looking at options, we are trying to isolate the problems. And then I see threads with people who admit to visiting daily, who help others turn off all ads on the site and how disheartening is that? That so many come to the site daily, use the resource and won't even view the ads that keep this place up, that afford us the cost of hosting, that give us the ability to expand with more servers. Ironic don't you think?

All sites have problems. I've seen problems on GWOnline.net (just a few days ago I couldn't access it for 3 days straight), OGaming (I see database errors a lot at night), GuildWiki (load issues, they had to buy a new server)... see the pattern? All large and growing sites have issues

Oh Noes! The 'burbs!

So, from 10 am to 1 pm pacific is a bad time? Kinda sucks for my morning routine. *sigh* I like to read the forums while waking up, and the recent problems make that difficult to impossible (today).

Just to help out, I'll start clicking the ads. I really never thought about it before, but I'd be happy to do my part.

Yeah Feminist, we are monitoring it constantly. But it does require stopping the apache for a while, (just 1 minute) waiting for the load to drop and then bringing it back up. As soon as this is fixed I will let you all know ASAP. Hopefully by tomorrow.

Dude have you seen how many peope are online??? for a forums Guru is pretty good when compaired to other forums considering the VOLUME of people viewing and searching on it... This si the problem. if you get on and see around 2000 members viewing... well the forums is pretty unusable... But you get on and see anywhere from 300 to 600 members on. well then it works a little better then...

besides this belongs in the Site Feedback section. not here... I'm sure MCS or another mod will move it...

This may or may not be a useful comment, but at least it's an interesting read.

If we're undergoing a DOS attack, isn't GWG's ISP able to help determine this and filter out some of the attacking computers/bots?

It's still quite sporadic. Occassonally I still get 30-45 page loads, then it cleaqrs up for a few minutes. This is quite typicall of uncoordinated DOS attacks.

The hosting service is likely working as hard as possible to control this as well. These things affect more than just this site. Data Center grade filtering devices cost upwards of 50K. If anyone wants to donate one I'm sure the hosting service would gladly accept one.

We are monitoring the situation, and I myself can't believe how much trouble we have had recently. But as for "something being done", I assure you that I am aware and that we are working on it. HAX0RS .... arrrrrg... show me where they are... ill beat them with my stick and set my cat on them.

Hello everybody, as you may have noticed, Guild Wars Guru is currently experiencing increasing problems. This is due to the fact that the server is being severely attacked. Rest assured that we are working hard to address this issue and restore normal service as soon as possible.

If you like to talk about it, please visit us via IRC:

Let me impart a little wisdom. With all the lag and long loading times the site had been having as of late, I've been noticing a bunch of double posts. I've also noticed that a lot of people edit their post or even post another one asking a mod to delete their doubles. I just wanted to post a little FYI for you guys that if you do double-post you can just hit edit and then advanced edit and there is an option to delete your own post. I'm sure doing that will save our mods a great deal of time fixing our screw-ups. Also posts are going to take a second to actually post. So if it says under the post button that it's working, it probably is. Don't be so impatient and start clicking it over and over.

installed a PHP Cacher, will be able to tell if it'll be able to handle the load at peak time. If not, then gonna have to bring another server online.

i agree the site has really been slow during the middle of the day. I work with an SQL DB at work and have seen similar issues before. Check your scheduled tasks for your DB, after we did an upgrade one time every day around 3pm the DB would lock up and we would have deadlocks everywhere, problem was the upgrade scheduled an automatic job that was crawling all the tables and locking tons of records.

Just an idea, love the site and I hope you guys get it back to normal soon.

Sucks, but what ya gonna do. That's the internet. Unforuneatley, its not the internet, I post on several forums regularily, and Guru is the smaller of the sites, its also the slowest(Im sure for 56k it is unuseable most of the time), when it works at all. Sometimes it is fine, other times theres no chance.
You guys really think, or have proof, that you are experiencing DOS attacks ? Im just curious.

At least Guildwiki is more consistent.

I guess we should give them sympathy...but if you're going to be a premier site for a game with over a million players(literally)...be able to handle a million visitors(figuratively).

Webmasters(i have a friend who is one) always seem to whine about bandwith costs...well nobody is forcing you to do it. If you can't afford it, don't run the site. Someone who can will take your place.

Well to be blatantly honest I haven't heard kzap or Inde put the blame on bandwidth costs at all, and I know for a fact that they're both trying to fix this issue.

Now, the scenario is, we are experiencing odd intervals of huge spikes at awkward times (I don't have the exacts on this, as I don't manage the servers). So then, say we are being attacked. How should we go about fixing that? As anyone tech-savvy knows, there's a lot of ways attackers can cover their tracks and cause a good deal of unwanted interference while we try to find them.

So, unless there's a single-fix method of solving this problem, I sincerely doubt any blame can be put on the webmasters of this site--they're doing their best to help, and I really think we should support them as we can, instead of blaming them for things that are out of their control at the moment.

Well they have said manytimes they are working on it. There is also those attacks on here too. I am confident that everything will work out in due time. They have a very competent team here. They work long hours on these problems. I also heard from kzap (I think) that they are getting another server to help out...that takes time too....
