Having major trouble with logging in and posting. Keep getting the "refresh" page.
Any info on what is causing it? About 1500 users online at the time.

Um yeah, found the problem. It's fixed. Sorry 'bout that.

What was teh problem?

We have a lot of emails in que. Weird problem I know, it does answer why a lot are not receiving confirmation emails, notification that auctions have closed, etc.
Old Dood
Oh Lord...I'll bet that is a headache for you and your mod staff too not to mention the members. I didn't even think about the Auctions since I don't use them. That would be frustrating.
However, you all fix it PDQ!

Hitting new records on amount of users online, and judging by the amount of double-triple posts, I'm not the only one lagging a lot..

Got tons of lag in the past hours.
Maybe because of the amount of people?

Wow, I actually am going to 'try' to post. Id post this in the bugs thread, but I aint taking any chances. For 2 days I have tried to post here to describe the myriad of problems I am getting from the site, basically it does not work. This page just took 10 minutes to load ???????. Will the post even work, I have my doubts but?
I dont know what it is, but something is heavily wrong, this is the only site I have ever been too with so many problems. When I posted about the site operating efficientley I deliberatley waited like a week to make sure things had actually improved and it wasnt just a lucky day, well now things are worse than they ever were before. Im not gonna list every problem I have had, suffice is to say its a long list. For a site with 40,000 members, I would think, in the middle of the afternoon, when 1000 people are on, the site should be at top speed, 2500 people on at once , I can expect a few slow page loads(10-30 secs for me is slow) etc..., but there have been times in the last couple days when there have only been 500-600 poeple on, and the site is at its slowest ever. As for th auction, whats that saying, oh yeah, Faggedaboutit .

Well, I can pretty much vouch that I haven't seen this site hit 500-600 except for after a server restart for about 2 weeks now. We are constantly on top of these problems and are aware of these situations almost immediately when they happen.
As for problems, yes they are many and we work at this day in and day out to manage, update and fix problems and bugs as they occur. We are also working on content, new features, articles and more in the meantime. It takes a community to run this site and we are not idely sitting back while these problems occur. I have many users who can vouch for the constant work we are doing at all hours of the day and night. Giving up play time, family time and more to try and keep this site not only running but providing the best content and community. Patience. If you think it's frustrating, try standing in our shoes as we work on these problems. Our priority is to this community and I spend more hours on this site then in game. Even with staff members begging me to join them in GvG.

At the time of this post there are:
1112 (339 members and 773 guests)
It's been rather busy lately, similar or more numbers typically.

Yes...I "tried" to report my problems last evening. I finally got in after about 15 minutes of getting to this point. Then I wrote my post and clicked "Post Reply". I came back an hour later and it still didn't finish. I then just closed out the browser and went to bed.
Seems to be ok this morning.

All right, interesting. I've noticed the last 3 days that around 12:30 - 1:30 PM PST the site suddenly kills. Some process running during this time that if it's not fixed will bring down the entire site. So, we are tracing it and trying to figure out what exaclty is happening. Just wanted to give an FYI.

I know Inde, thanks all the same bud, just a little vent....
I must note that atm there are 2200 people on, 1400 guests. Something I have noticed and tested, things seem to go fine UNTIL I log in, then all goes to hell, I cant close an auction, view items, nothing, site just locks up. Go out come back in, browing is fine. Log in, all goes to hell ???

Is this happening today Sents? We've been working constantly on the server for the last 2 days monitoring it. There have been occassional slowdowns but we are on top of it and nothing for more than a couple of minutes. Let me know if you are still having problems.
Old Dood
Only minor slow downs for me today...then again...I haven't been paying all that much attention being busy today.

Things arent too bad last couple a days Inde, just seemed to get real bad a few days back, since then it hasnt been that bad. I can log in, even post, check my auctions, etc, no probs.
drunkcow
The site has been slow and buggy for me all day; sometimes not working at all.
Inde
We've been montioring it all day drunkcow. I'm monitoring it and dealing with the problems as they arise. We have some process running everday starting at 12:30PM PST that just kills the site. So we are looking into it and just restarting and working on it as we monitor.
Inde
There's no load and it keeps going down. So there's an update that's not really an update. We are looking into it.

Connectivity issues... i keep getting the "Cannot contact server" message. I have short intervals of time that i can get on... like now! =P
Seems we have been jumping over the 2000 people mark... again the majority of which are guests... =\

an update, seems to be peak time with a lot of open connections at 10-1pm PST, which is weird, arent you people eating lunch?! or is everyone at work getting a break and getting on Guru.... We're working on countering this load k, so pls everyone be patient

I've been a member with this site for a couple months, and it seems like everytime I log on to check the forums the site is rediculously slow. It's not my internet connection, because everything else works fine and everything else is fast, it's just this site. I know the traffic isn't slowing it down because I've visited other sites that have 2000+ members viewing at the same time and its 10x faster than this site. Something needs to be done.
HawkofStorms
I think the auction system is slowing this site down a lot. It is slow on my T3 line at college and I can't even get this site to load at all on my 56k at home.
Inde
No, it's because we have "disgruntled" users who take it out on the site because we happen to enforce rules. The recent problems we have been constantly monitoring, and no they shouldn't be happening. Yesterday and today we have been experiencing unusually high peaks that come and go. Which leads us to believe that GW Guru is experiencing a DOS attack. We are watching the situation. The auctions, the amount of guests, the amount of users has nothing to do with this.
We are monitoring the situation, and I myself can't believe how much trouble we have had recently. But as for "something being done", I assure you that I am aware and that we are working on it.

Don't worry. We've pointed 390 banana cream pie missiles at the perpetrator, he should let up soon.
ifuwerepbandj
is the speed also why the search function almost never works?
Lasareth
The query overload brings down everything, including search.

Sorry to annoy but I have not seen anyone post this problem. Beyond the insanely slow load speeds, searching has been hit and miss.
Much of the time it diverts me to the google search option (which most of the time will not even find things that are on the front page of the forum) and sometimes when I do try to use a link given, it will direct me right back to the site saying that the search function will not work and so use google. ie a big circle. I'm sure you guys are swamped with the server problems you are having but just thought I would let you know about this.

Yes.. that seems very likely.
Infact there are around 400 users online atm and the site is still as slow as ever. I normally find its mostly the forums with the problem though, not the main website. It also sometimes switches to 'this page cannot be displayed' after waiting for ages to load a page.
Anyway.. i hope Inde and the others manage to sort it good luck
EDIT: i have now tried 10 times to submit this post..
EDIT2: make that 20

We are working on an issue with the server now and will continue to work on it until it is resolved.

I remember we had a DOS attack a few months ago. But yes, sometimes it varies from overall slowness, 404s, or just downtime of the search button. Hopefully it would be over with soon. Leads me to wonder if the DOS attacker is one of our own...can you trace the IP in any manner?
Eldin
Comes in streaks. Doing better than a few hours ago, othertimes you cannot access Guru at all, and it's 404s. My main annoyance is the downtime of the search button...lol. Google is the multi-purpose tool of awesomeness, but their temporary forum search thingies are just sad.
