Yes, old thread, and I don't see this happening in GW1. I agree with some other previous comments that people should think carefully about a name before they play the character up.

Other MMOs I have played charge a real life fee to change your character's name. I agree with charging a real fee for changing an in-game name, so players can't just flippantly decide to change it every few days. I don't like the idea of charging in-game gold to change it, because many players do have a lot of money and wouldn't think much of spending 100k to change it after going on a griefing spree.
I wouldn't change any of my own characters' names, but I do have a couple friends that really wish they could have that option and would willingly pay a real fee to do so.

I really dont care how they make it work as long as they do it then its good enough for me. My main with 13 maxed titles and 5 mil Xp but really crappy name i wouldnt want to start over just because of the name. This would help alot of people anyways.

I like the idea of adding an extra rename char button next to create and select buttons. I agree some kind of restriction needs to be in place for this. Some possibilities:
-Charge 'reasonable' amount of in game gold
-Charge real world money for character renaming
-restrict # of changes allow per time; like how region changing use to be

I think being able to have the freedom to change your name is something that's well needed. I hate the fact that I'd lose all my precious time and money if I deleted a character because I didn't like my name anymore.
I also like the idea of being able to change your hairstyle and maaaaaaybe the face but that would be weird haha.

Gaile has already stated that you would lose all customized items if the name was changed.
But even if I had to pay and lose all my Dervish customized items, I'll still do the change.
I hate having a character named Asura.

Ok so I'm assuming that it would mean to ARMOR too (since of course it's customized to you) right? That would suck cuz my character has obsidian, but the time i put into her....

if there was only a way to make a slight change......I misspelld Laphroaig, and I see lots of ppl with misspelled names that wish they could fix it. No crime in fixing a small typo is there?

I love this concept, but am wondering how it would affect my friends list? Since the names kept in your friends list is that of the character's name at the time you add them, what happens if they change that characters name? Maybe have some sort of account name that isn't changeable that goes along with this for friend list purposes?

it problly wont effect it. i met some1 on my first guy, and delted that character... they still ahve me under the same name and i appear fine

I removed him from my list (I already knew him) and added him with a temporary character he made. He then deleted the character. Still on list. The second guy made a new character by that name. Original guy is still on list. I then added the second guy. No problems.
It is account based.

If they did this they should be like the other MMO's and charge real game money like 10-20 USD. This is Because of the time needing for a staff to go through the database and relink everything to your new name which requires time. Even if they develop a program for it, that won't be free. It's a good potential for some extra revenue cause in game gold is 0 revenue for the work they did.
Also someone did post a link that Gaile stated there will be no name changes programed into the game. which is why this thread is 2 years old and still nothing has been done.

If you dont want a char name Noobmonkey of Poo or some other lame ass name dont name them that. take a little time. name your char. OR DELETE NOOBMONKEY OF POO and start over. or live with it.

I would love to change the name of my first character. Since all the names are account-based, it would require zero staff time and shouldn't cost "real" money. It should come with a price, though, perhaps 2 plat?
