I still find it disgusting that ANet would remove the ability to get something without removing the copies in existence.

Either leave something in or kill all copies - don't make "limited edition" weapons worth a fortune. Remove all HoD, Scavenger axes etc...

There is a distinct difference between an "overpowered" sword that at best adds 5 energy to a character, and an item that changes the duration of every single enchantment in the game to something beyond the scope of the game's intent (assuming they intended it to be as every other of the hundreds of weapons act).

To not see the difference there is amazing. At this point it's all conjecture and opinion, so I will step out of the thread until we see Anet's official response via update, hopefully tomorrow.

When Halloween comes back around and the Horseman either come back to sell their Mad King wares again, or the price of said items will go UP UP UP during that season.

You'd think by the millionth time an item has became limited that people wouldnt care, especially if it isn't game breakingly broken. But in another game, they did a test. There was this useless item barely anyone cared to even keep when they completed the little "quest" to get it. Much like the silly quest rewards in Guild Wars - Merchant fonder. All they did was Sticky a post on their official forums on their site that the item was no longer going to be given upon completion of said task, and not only that, but existing ones no longer have any effect. People like Who cares right? Nope...In ten minutes, the item has the 5th most expensive item in the game. about 15 minutes later they erased that post and repalced it saying that it was just a hoax to test the market.


my Money sink thoery is proven already - an hour after SoA Axes became public knowledge - You couldnt get Enchant mods for under 100k...At even the NOTION of having something that might get nerfed later on and helps - They didnt hesitate to drop their entire bank accounts to get them. Ectos were selling all over the palce, and they were down 2k in the trader. I dont know about today though.

Ectos are 8.5k / 11k at trader.

I spent quite a bit of money buying HoD swords (I've only played for two months, so by the time I started playing they were extinct). I would be extremely pissed if A.net removed them with no compensation.

In fact, these axes are crapping all over my HoD swords and they have lost their value which in turn means I'm losing money.

Except you're wrong. All items from beta were wiped at release, and people got these in the early Arid Sea days. Damage unconditionally is intended, those are mods like 15%/-10 or 15%/-5. But some weapons are 15%. Just 15%. No "when your health is above 50%" or "-5 energy", just plain 15%.

I wonder if it's just because you can't get +25% as a mod, that's the only thing I could think of as to why it doesn't work for that staff.

Interesting how with this axe you can basically make yourself a second shield vs physical or magical. I imagine having +14AL against the elements might make it easier to heal against a spike in some circumstances. Laugh at IWAY when you're sitting there with +14AL against they're axes... and their pets.

Not really, considering I just timed my normally 22 second long Protective Spirit; With the results being it lasted 9 seconds longer, and basic math shows 9/22 = .409090909 etc. (This was with a 20/20% axe btw)

Another possibility to "fix" this issue would be to make these axes (or all questitems, if they can't keep track of those specific ones) PvE-only just as you can't put your PvP-Weapons in your storage.

This wouldn't render them completly useless (a lot less valuable though), but make PvP balanced again.

Each of the enchanting mods affects the enchantment separately, adding N seconds to the enchantment. Then Blessed Aura affects this overall, modified duration.

16 Divine Spellbreaker (18 seconds base) with Blessed Aura works as follows with the axe:

18s * 1.20 = 21.6 rounds to 22 seconds, for +4 seconds from the enchanting part. With two 20% parts, each adds +4 seconds for 26 seconds base.

Blessed Aura works on that rounded, 26 second figure. At 37% longer enchantments, that's a 35.62, rounded to 36 second Spellbreaker.

36s spellbreaker. Imagine 3 monks echoing spellbreaker. That's 6 spellbreakers on the team. Each one lasting 36s. For 30s, spells against 75% of your team will fail. Add in 2 Aegis for a 50% chance to block attacks.

plus, it's a discontinued item, so people pay big dough for it.

Precisely! Or changing the mod on new items ala the rockmolder (or whatever it's called). It sucks that a few people get a good version of the item when no one else has the opportunity to get anything but the dumbed down version. Basically letting some people have the item that NO ONE else can get is just lame.

Don't know if you've noticed, but PvP characters can get all the best equipment (minus this 40% axe and a few other minor exceptions) for free. And despite popular belief, you do not need perfect weapons to get through PvE. All you need is patience.

The only thing this axe is going to do is piss people off for a few more seconds during the final minutes of HoH when you slap a fat spellbreaker on the ghostly. And only for a few more days, since ANet will obviously do something about this very soon.

Yes, there are still a few. The more, uh, "Common" variety is the weapons with a zealous mod on them, which back in the day glitched with the weapons that were 15/-1 so it only had -1, instead of -2. However, I do believe seeing somewhere recently a 13% always no negatives sword. I just hope they delete every last one of the glitched axes.
