CONFIRMED: Icy Dragon Sword
Big Strong Baby
BigTru are going the east way or the north after the portal? I haven't tried going north but i went east and had no spells cast on me slowing me down
Hells Vengeance
I got myself one of these in first run. Party members were pissed. O.o
ryguy
Traders selling is? Good god, don't price it over 1.5k.
Why is everyone farming for this sword? It sucks. Wowsers, it's ICEY! UBER!
Not quite, any warrior I see wielding this in PvP, my Monk will drop healing and come after you.
You'll drop like a sorry lil' bitch. Then I'm going to point and laugh at you.

This sword (sorry to say this) but its overrated just like Greens. Seriously, Green Weapons and IDS is like a common or sometime rare drops. Why do peoples charge 100k or more for these type of items. I still got my investment set in with tons of awesome gold weapons!

I hope you work out your personal issues. |
Just in case you haven't figured it out, "collector" means collectoresc (or something similar to a collectors item). Why do I say this? Because every single one of them is the same exact thing, blue, req 9 (hey look at that collectors have req 9 weapons), and 15%^50. Not really much difference now is there?
But for kicks lets look at probability of drop; You need say 5-7 collectors items for a collectors 15%^50 sword, now a creature does not always drop a collectors item (from my experience its a 1/4 probability to be dropped, you have weapons, gold, materials, and the collectors item itself). So we need that 1/4 chance (which is less than 1/4 but hey) to occur five to seven times. Now if you can do math that gives you a large sum of killings that need to be done inorder to get those collectors items, unless you're extremly lucky ofcourse but that is besides the point. I have gone into Mineral for capping recently and the swords were dropping occasionally, something like 4-5 frigid hearts per sword (with a lot of other junk as well). So what do I see? I see an item that is collectoresc in all respects, it even takes about the same time to get it as it would to get a collectors item.
If you have an concerns or find errors in my logic inform me. The run ended with a good 4.5:1 ratio of IDS to Frigid Hearts.
Also lets try not to classify me as something, especially based on sarcastic post. It's usually not much of a plan but hey insult me all you want, I don't really care.
Edit: To the post above mine. IDS is not really comparible to greens as many are good and fully modded, an IDS is just a blank (oh dare I say it) "collector" sword with an (my opnion) ugly skin.

And no, I don't really plan on using or selling the sword... I'm just after one for the hunt.

it's a vanity skin, it looks cool, it doesnt suck, leave people who want them alone.

Actually it was long draw out pointless display of why the IDS is "collectoresc"... but lets not start that all over again.

0 damage with "watch yourself", dolyak signet, and elemental resistance up.
Hmmm, with all those up I'm at -10 a hit still. I'm at 12 tactics, 11 strength. I have a sup absorption rune. Do I need to bump something up?

Damn you people argue over ANYTHING dont ya? LMAO!! (Not aimed at the people actually DISCUSSING about the IDS runs)
Sure its being sold for up to 100k by some shmoes, and some willing to pay that. But does this affect you? Not really, so stop whining. If you want to buy one, there are PLENTY being sold for under 30k. And in a few short days the market price will drop fast... Its all opinion on how it looks, its usefulness, etc etc.... so lets all agree to disagree!!!!!!!!
I dont really care who was arguing about how "good" teh IDS is or its looks, or its "collectoresc" characteristics, just stop arguing about COMPLETELY subjective, opinions about opinions. Its pointless and spiteful for no reason.
Heres my opinion for kicks and giggles, WITHOUT arguments or spitefulness: i think it is sexy sexy looking. I wouldnt care if it only came as a Req13, 10-15 dmg. I still like owning one. Cause its SEXAY!! Nuff said...

b3h3m0th:
You are seeing Dark Titans, and others rather than imps because you currently have the "DEFEND DROKNARS FORGE" quest active in your quest log. If you drop this quest in town taking it out of your log, you know fight the normal everyday creatures like Ice Imps, Ice Golems, Avicara etc etc...
And yes you can get that quest again...

A couple questions for you guys (sorry, I been gone for a few days and I'm trying to catch up).
Has anyone determined what the deal is with these swords?
Is it possible that they've been there all along and no one knew about them because of their remote and difficult location? I don't know anyone who farmed ice imps before all this, especially not where you guys are talking about.
And if they are indeed a recent addition, are they a Christmas gift of some kind? Are they going to stick around and continue to drop on permanent basis?
Again guys, sorry for the I've-been-living-in-a-cave-ish questions.

Some detailed information on how long they've existed and where they're available, or perhaps not available from ArenaNet would sure help here.

Explanation as far as I can go:
Right now they are on a rollercoaster pricing system. Going violently from 30k one sell, to 2 seconds later someone offering 7 ectos for one.
This has alot to do with 2 things:
1) People are assuming or blindly hoping rather, that these are Christmas gifts and will be no longer avialable afterwards, these are the people offering the high amounts for them.
2) There are price manipulators in Granite Citadel that are saying that they have been nerfed/stopped dropping/etc/etc in an attempt to control pricing and get top dollar for the IDS's that they most likely farmed a few of minutes before.
Your periodic 20-30k sell is from people that just got one and want to get it off their hands at a fair market price and be done with it.
Right now in Citadel you have a few kinds of people:
1) The WTBer that is asking to buy at a strict low price (10-20k most of the time), and from time to time pops off a comment like "Only noobs are trying to sell them for higher than 30k".
2) The WTSer that is either asking some ungodly amount, or has some fake auction going on where his supposed "c/o" is somewhere much higher than market value. He'll from time to time when a number 1 comments to him say, "Then why did I just sell 4 of them for 10ectos ea? you noob". {funny part about this is that these are usually the same people spitting off that the drop rates have been nerfed...sort of digging their own grave no?}
Right now, since the first number 1 is still in the minds (it being a christmas thing), the number 2 WTSer above is getting what he wants. They can make up almost any price and sell it to the desperate "collectors".

I usually take the north route, but if I run into trouble there, I take the east, "backdoor" route. Either way they lead to the same place.

Hehe its pretty funny reading about people doing 10-15 runs and not getting one. tried it out myself for the first time with 3 guildmates.. none of my mates got one.. i got three, 2 of them from the same mob =)
animeba
i'm in the same boat as the rest of the unlucky folks.
4 runs to mineral spring (2 solo, 2 with 5 man farming team)
3 runs to grotto
absolutely no ids >.<
From the looks of it, it is actually a pretty rare drop.

I think they changed the drop rates. The first night this thread went up I farmed 4 IDS. Since then I've seen 1 drop for a 5-man party after about 5 runs or so.
Drop rate used to be about 70% of runs, now it's down to 10-20% for me.

I've done about 6 runs personally. First run I did I saw one drop but that was before the drop rates lowered. Since then I haven't seen one.

I have seen 1 in 9 of my runs, drops are really low, altough we didnt had favor, dont know if that has anything to do with it.
zerulus
do they drop off any ice imps or only the ones in mineral springs? the ones in mineral springs seem to be the same as all the other ones in the southern shiverpeaks.

For those wondering on my route...
Tasca's Demise:
I've marked two safe spots. Wait there for a patrol to pass. Then continue on your way. Now the last part is luck. The mob will either be off to the side and allow you to pass, or be spread out and be in the way. If it's the latter, just let them kill you; the rez shrine will teleport you past.
Mineral Springs:
Two trouble spots(depending on the spawn) if you take the north route. The first bridge can be tricky. If there are only two mobs, one before the boss and the boss mob itself, you can make it through to a safe location. But if there's another mob right after bridge... well good luck. You may have to take the east route. Or defeat the first mob before the boss one.
The next trouble spot could be the second bridge. Same concept because of spawn points. Though not as troubling as the first bridge.
Keep in mind if you encounter the Ele boss, it can slow you down with a hex spell. Go the other way(the east route) if you can't handle it.
Once you get there, have fun farming. Just watch out for the Mountain Trolls. Just tough it out against them, and coerce them into using their Disrupting Chops before you use your Healing Sig. And if you have to get past the Ice Beast because there's more Imps there, be careful of the Shadows. Take them on little by little. Having the Favor here helps to get the +3 regen.
I used to use axes for this, but I switched to sword to make use of IDS's of course. =) Get them imps!!!
Ooooooh pretty... =)

Orrrrrr.... (pun intended) MAYBE the drop rates aren't "Nerfed" but it's the auto-nerfing that occurs when you go there a bazillion times in a row? I'd bet it's that.

I'm not sure about others, but I run 2-3x max before I go off doing other stuff.

If you don't have a shield with that mod, the Crimson Carpace Shield from the collector north of thirsty is an great shield to get.
