No I don't have a special shield, just 16 armor. But I did tweak the build and was able to get the damage down to 2-3, very manageable.
My guildie and I did 2-man runs all night using this build.
But no drops in 7 runs - approx. 200-250 imps killed.
I think it's just sad if ANet took such a fun sword out of the game for anyone but the luckiest person.

If people are struggling on 7 imps at a time and your using the build you have definitely got the wrong gear as you should be able to take on 15+ easy with minimal damage, but as i see it now it really isnt worth to farm it as drops are so rare, and dont run that route where you said the ele boss is with a slow down as he has never spawned on my route i posted the previous page

Hmm, I've gone through the north route a lot of times, and only once or twice did the Ele boss spawn in my way. So I assume it spawn on the other route. 
Although what you say is probably true. The times I've had to go east I can't recall encountering that Ele. But then again it's luck.

The sword doesn't suck, it has max dmg and a very good mod. I prefer using a golden sword that has req 8 but the IDS is also very good.
people don't want it because its icy, but just for the challenge of getting one, and because it is said to stop dropping after January.

Why are you bringing charge? its much easier to have eviscerate and lose dismember then bring more helpful skills

Am I the the only one that takes Gaile's statement on the sword to mean you will earn one by participating in the "event" when it takes place?
Surely her verbage of "come play with us to earn one" would refer to something similar to the mad king on halloween rather than "go find a group and get to mineral springs before it's too late".
Gaile has always been very good at using the correct words to convey her intent. My money is on the IDS being a reward in the dwayna vs grenth event to come.

Got an IDS my very first try with my monk...I was looking to do Defend Droknar's, but everyone there was just going off about this IDS thing, which I hadn't even heard of yet or anything. So I says fine, the hell with it, I'll go see what this is all about. Went out with a very solid 6 man group, and on our first run I got the only IDS to drop. Merry Christmas for my W/Mo! Now I just need a good pommel upgrade to go with it...

does doing more work in the group help at all? ive killed packs of imps while some r dead, havent even touched these guys, or looked at them for that matter and they end up getting the drop. Is it just completely random??

It's random. My monk did some good healing work at times, but this was a really solid group when it came to NOT taking significant damage, and I really didn't have to do that much or work very hard at keeping everyone alive. But I still got that one IDS drop.

I've done numerous runs out of Mineral Springs and Marhan's Grotto, still not found one, got plenty of Frigid Hearts though for the Xmas stuff!
I won't be playing over the next few days I'd imagine, I hope to god they're not taken out before I get chance to farm more for one.

about 20 solo runs and 3 group runs and i aint seen 1 fall, bad luck for me eh. The only thing i got from it is about 50 odd frigid hearts if they have any use

yeah one of those buggers usually drops one a run.. but just one from what I've seen lately in the cave.. it's actually not too bad doing it solo with a monk- pretty fast.. just have to watch when you cast and it helps to have some dp before entering the cave- 29 hp and under you don't need a heal

Today when i went to Granit Citadel I saw so much monks running out of the portal to mineral springs. They were not on a team or anything either. Does anybody else notice this? Does anyone know the build for soloing? The Uw solo build doesnt work to good in mineralsprings.

Actually, I was in LA Intl Dist 1 when Gaile made the comment above about "come out and play".
It was actually preceded by quite a long discussion where she admitted that she didn't even know the IDS was in the game. Then she asked how to get one. After numerous people voiced their frustration, she made the comment "well, it's a drop then? A rare one?" before she commented "well you have to come out to play" to get one. She then said that she suspected the IDS would be taken out of the game when WintersDay was over.
Here's what I think happened. They added the IDS as a bonus. People figured it out FAST and started going to the Cave in masses. Then ANet's anti-farming code kicked in, and as a result the IDS became rarer and rarer (I did not think that the anti-farming code tabulated results across multiple instances, but after watching what happened here, I am now convinced it does).
So now ANet is in a quandry. A coveted sword that was really only meant to be added as a fun bonus, that is almost impossible to get now (from talking to multiple farmers, drop rate is = 1 in 500 imps atm).
I suspect they will do something about this to help people get an IDS, but I doubt it will be done this weekend - hehe I think they give their coders Xmas off.
So I counsel patience.

Okay so i do know most of the info on the IDS and i really want one. I know that they only come in blue and are ALWAYS max 9 req and 15^50. I'm pretty sure that you can onlyget them from ice imps, is that true? And if so can you only get them in mineral springs? And if you can get them somewhere else besides mieral springs were would be thebest place to "farm" them. And I also saw a couple of warriors with the desert griffon armour on(grotto glad wit ascalon helm). Anyone know a good farming build to farm these beasts? And anyone have a price check on them? I saw them go for 50k in granite citadel!All the info you got will be greatly apreciated.

I would use thiis only in PvE not PvP as I took out someone with sward with simple PvP axe and it did have 2 mods on it.

Exactly How do you use this build? Do you run to mineral springs? You can servive killing any creature in mineralsprings when using the right skills?

I added a perfect defense mod on it making it worth like 60k more.
So i advise u ppl that r elling em to add cheap but good mods to them to make them more pricey

Argh, this is when I wish I had worked on my brother's warrior so I could solo this and get one of these. For the past 10 runs or so, I have seen no IDS's at all in a long time. I've done it 5 man, 6 man, 7 man, even 8 man teams and I haven't seen one drop in the past 10 runs or so. And the time one (only 1) dropped, someone else got it

u should try more 5 or 6 man teams....make it like an SF oro team...2 monks i bond another heal, echo nuker, 2 SS necros (trust me this will help alot), and a warrior that can deal dmg good...or more known as a meat-shield
