I would also add some other factors: Reconnects. I'm so used to them now, that games without reconnects are so frustrating to me....

try "gw.exe" -diag that should test your connection to the GW servers. Or, failing that, maybe Start -> Run -> netsh winsock reset...

My alliance did an 8 man forge run last night and about 14 shards drops just for those quests. I was the only one in the party not to get one
