I've had this bug. It's always caused by one of the group of 4 grasping darknesses spawning behind the door, and not in front of it.

The change isn't huge, but it is there. And it isn't noted in the skill, but if you try to cast a 5 energy spell with only 4 energy, and...

I agree that this should be changed... it seems as though Anet put updating this off until they completely forgot about it.

Press H and you'll see it as a category to increase skill level in ~ Oh, and one of your jobs must be Ranger

There's also a Enchanted version of the shield somewhere. Don't spend money on something like that.
