Yes. If you're a Ranger and don't plan on having a pet, but put points into Beastery, you're potentially screwed.

To the guy who asked: There's a crafter in pre-searing Ascalon, near the weapon-upgrading guy (near Prince Rurik). He only crafts weapons, though.

Mine does this all the time, I've learned to ignore it.
