Searing Flames is the best skill because a monkey could run it, it gets better in packs, and it causes substantial AoE non-scatter damage.
Pets are a really bad idea. There's better stuff you can bring in them 2 slots. And your skillbar needs more energy management and less Flare.
It sounds like you're better off as a warrior. Or possibly a dervish, they both have much greater front line survivability. Btw... Assassin...
